Don't know how good they really are, but here's some links.

I hate to say it mate but personally I wouldnt bother modding a Ecotec. Theres no use flogging a dead horse so to speak. I aint having a dig just trying to stop you making the same mistake at trying to make a ecotec fast that I did years ago. Save on mods and put the money aside for a LS1 in a couple of years.

powerchip seems like good value for money. might have a bit more of a read and make a decision about ordering. Cheers sonny.

I had a VT that I put bolted Extractors, exhuast, intake etc etc onto and then after only getting around 14rwkw gain from all the money I spent I realised that I'd be better off with a V8, sorry to say it but all said and done unless you turbo or supercharge it you won't see much of a power gain from an Ecotech motor.

I've gone through this path before when I had my VS, it was like flogging a dead horse.
These days there are a fair few people making parts for these to go fast. My mate has recently done a mild cam & head upgrade and has a bit over 200kw atw and now is looking at supercharging. After months of telling him to buy a 5L or gen3, this thing pull harder of the line than my ute and revs to 7000rpms.
If you want some go out of it save your pennies and do a few things at a time, I've found small upgrades don't do much justice. more beneficial go get the auto tricked up and a stall and an LSD to stop those big one wheelers.
good luck

Wow 200rwkw? sure that wasn't a happy dyno? My clubby is only just over that, I dont see how 90rwkw gets to 200rwkw with just heads and cam, call me skeptical but without some forced induction I just dont see it happening that easily.

I was once a sceptic also.
bit more than heads and cam to a point. full rebuild only internal mods were pistons (unsure what brand) compression is up a couple of points, heads, cam, supercharged 6 injectors, computer. Also gearbox kitted/converter and diff gears.

Ah well thats why I didn't believe you, the supercharger, injectors etc make a big difference.

Unfortuantly if you want to get serious power from an ecotec V6 without forced induction you would need to get it.
Stroked, Cammed, zorsted, intakeded, chipped, and so forth.
Although turbocharging it would probably make it a little monster like the Buick Grand nationals turbo's that basically blew many V8's into the weeds.

Chris, that would read "superchaged 6 injectors" As in the fuellers are form a super6.
But I agree with you. 90rwkw from a rebuild like described seems like wishfull thinking.

I think I remember years back Streetmachine testing a few chips on 3.8's when they where all the rage and all but 1 brand lost power over stock throughout the range...and the one that gained only gained 1 or 2 kw I think.
Would love to find that article now, what a laugh all those guys bragging about their power chips except there cars where slower for it.
If you have some money to burn donate me a set of tyres and I'll burn it for ya, the chips a crock of shit, you need to do heads, cam, exhaust and basically anything else that moves to get it to go ok.
