Hi All,
After much reading on the 2006 VZ SS 6.0 both in magazines and internet articles.....
My Question:
Is it safe to say that 2006 VZ SS 6.0 Gen 4, could become a collectors item in the near future due to its limited build etc.....????
ALL comments and opinions are appreciated.

Doubt it really compared to the Monaro.

Its hard to say , in the near future i would say no. I tried to get Holden to give me the info on the build numbers of the 6ltr SS sedans and they came back to say that they do not record model specific info like that all they could tell me is how many vehicles came with a V8.
It would be nice to think that in years to come that these would become a bit of a collectors item, but without knowing how many were made its gonna be hard to predict. Either way i love mine and wouldnt have anything else ... except maybe a GEN TT kit for it hehe.

To be honest, the sales of SS Commodores now are so high, I couldn't see them becoming 'collector's items.'
More likely though would be Coupe 4 (definitely) and HSV GTO/GTS coupes, also some of the limited edition Monaros (although I am unsure as to how 'limited' they were).
Cheers and enjoy your ride,
Macca

basically ... they are a vz ss on the outside (plenty of those around) and the same (almost) v8 as in the VE (plenty of those round) ... really its not a special edition or anything...
As mentioned, the coupes seem to be the ones... CV8Z and the hsv's

No chance mate- As soon as the VE ute is released they will be quickly forgotten. If you want a collectable 2 door go the coupes.(HSV or Monaro)
I am very happy sitting on my Phantom GTO LE and cruising in the daily CV8.:driving:

as much as I would like to think so (for obvious reasons), I doubt it.
but you never know in 10 to 15 years time.....

SS Commodores are very common.
Reason why I ask the question is that the 2006 VZ SS is the ONLY (sedan) model with the L78 GEN4 with the (dare I say it) controversal DoD hardware. This engine is unique to the 06 VZ Build plated model. I guess the SS-Z version would have more of a collector status than just the SS...if they did!
I know other models got the L78 too i.e. WL Statesman\Caprice but I don't have one of those! :D :D

In 5 years time when its the same age as a VX is now it will be worth about the same as a VX is now.... Probably less. Harsh reality but thats how cars work ;)

it will always be worth more thant the previuos ls1 models at the same age and condition , 6Ltr instead of 5.7 , leather int std climate std bigger brakes and calipers std and its got more mumbo...say no more

BUT the new VE and onwards etc will be the same leap again over the VZ.....

as long as you pay the $55000 (inc onroad) for the VE V SS the std SS trim is simialr to the SV8 no leather no climate. its a no contest if you had the choice between a vx ss and a vz ss 6.0ltr of the same mileage and condition

Along with the L76 6.0 you also get a de-contented stripper version of the pre 30/6/05 "luxury" SS 5.7!
Might be worth a few hundred or even a thousand more than a late '05 SS 5.7, but to think they will become collectors items is letting the brain drift to the clouds a bit...There's really nothing "collectable" about it, maybe just a tad more "desirability" from the dudes buying it off you!

But your argument means absolutely ZERO toward "collector status".
What your saying is that it's better than the previous version, and that's how it's supposed to be!
The only "collectable" SS models are the HDT and VL/VN Group A SS models. Everything else from VN SS (stock version) onward are a dime a dozen regular production model....

doubtful. if they are still around in 15-20 years it may become the 'sought after' model in the VZ range, but for a collector? no, i seriously doubt it

Nope, nothing collectable, just a better model than 5.7 VZ SS's and all that preceded them, as should be the case. The VE is (apparently) a far better car again (can't say for sure till my SSV arrives but from all reports it will be a far better car than the 5.7 VZ SS I recently sold).

The VE is so much better than VZ it's not funny mate.
You will be getting a great car for what is pretty low money....

They would have said the same thing about a standard 5 litre torana or HQ coupe if they had been using forums in the '70s. They are both collectables now in good condition with a rusted out wreck of a HQ coupe selling for 10000 in perth. (a friends car) admitadely it was a 350 originally so that helped but i don't think these cars will last that long unless you can keep them in a shed or something because of all the plastics instead of metal. Your average VK is looking ordinary now and there only 20 years old. I think you should just enjoy them while they are new flick them when a new series comes out and thats about it.

Just another SS...
If anything, the existence of the 6.0 litre V8 just means that owners of the 5.7 litre VZ SS got screwed in the same way 5.0 litre VT SS owners got screwed.

...So If Holden stuck a badge saying "LIMITED EDITION" on the Car....
I guess that would improve its chances!???

I bought my VZ SS in September 2004 so the 6.0 litre was 15 months away at that time. By the time the 6.0 litre V8 came round, the VZ was well into runout mode, the SS-Z arriving a few months earlier to to try and resuscitate plunging sales.
I should say, if the 6.0 litre in the VZ SS is as good as that fitted to the VE, then they would be a very appealing piece of machinery. Unmodified, the VZ 5.7 litre engine was good for the two years I had it, but didn't blow me away like the 6.0 litre has. Thankfully mine was a manual, meaning I could overcome the lack of low down grunt off the line and get the most out of every kw. But if the same unmodified engined were hooked up to an A4, I would think it would have been a POS.

This thread is really starting to become ANOTHER LS1 vs L76 thread, NOT the topic it started as (pretty flimsy basis for a thread if I've ever seen one anyway...)
Time to close it off mods!

The mods are the lords of the forum, and they usually close off LS1 vs L76 threads, because they ALL head down the path this one is now!
Think of me what you will, but I give my answers down the line. If people ask a straight question, I give a straight answer, using the benefit of my 18 years in the motor trade.
BUT, if people bring up stuff like this, I'll still say it how I see it. Blind Freddy can see that a 6 litre VZ SS wont EVER be "collectable", so why bother asking the masses?
Sorry if I offended you.

I don't have a problem with opinions and comments made on anything I say or post. But understand that people like me rely on the knowledge and expertice from people like you!
I believe tha my thread (this one) isn't flimsy at all. Perhaps I should have refined it abit better. But like all other threads in this forum they diversify from the main subject.
Basically is not what you say....its how you say it.
Anyway lets leave it at that... I appreciate your comments.

its the same as the monaro owners who think they have a collectable
they may be a bit more special but still no more collectable than any other holden , some buyer just paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for a falcon gt may be collectable but its a heap to drive

i think the 6.0 vzss will be worth a pretty penny as long as u kept it as new and are willing to hold onto it for 40 or 50 years cheers

Whipped...:whip: !!!
People have been "collecting" Monaro's for a while now, storing them away, keeping them down to low km's.
Don't want to start another "discussion" on this topic, but many in the trade see a bit more in it than you do obviously.....:werd:

Sought after - IMO possibly, but not "collectable" as such.
Were there any 6.0L wagons made, or can you get a V8 wagon at the moment?

You use to be able to get the Berlina wagon in V8 form but I think you can only get it in V6 now.
