...made a beeping noise (not unlike the 'hey idiot, your handbrake is still on' beeper). and a little orange light lit up in the dash, said ((ABS))

It stayed on until I turned my car off, and it hasn't come back since! I remembered it did this a while ago once after a big roadtrip, but last time the light was only on for a couple minutes. This was about a year ago.

Anyone got any idea what causes this light to come on, and how I can fix it if it comes on again?

Our Calais V did that just after purchase, and never returned. The little display screen also flashes up random stuff now and again for a split second. I assume the computers just have gliches... well I hope thats all it is :hmmm:

It happened to my Calais about a year ago. There was a beep and the warning lights would come on - ABS, airbag, oil, traction control. The lights only go out if I manage to restart the car and driven it for a few minutes. The ABS ECU was playing up and had to be replaced. Total cost - $840. It makes me wonder whether I should buy another Calais.

Common problem on VT-VZ. ABS brake module craps out. I wouldn't bother replacing it until it stays on all the time. When my VT started playing up was about 3 years ago and only at the end of last year did it become cronic. Bought a new unit from Holden. $720 i think and replaced it myself. Siple enough with the right star keys and save your self the crap labour charge

its not just a calais problem. it happened in my ss and the old mans stato.
we both needed new abs modules and costed about $600 each.
seems to be a pretty common problem from what i hear.:vpo:

$720, screw that. If it packs up, I'll just have my ABS disconnected! ABS feels kinda terrible when you drive a car pretty hard, anyway...sure, it's handy sometimes, but I don't like the pedal feel with ABS.

I'll just deal with it for now!

get the EXACT part number stamped into the metal off the ABS unit.
Post a wanted ad in the classifieds here specifying the number.

I did that 18 months ago, a member on here contacted me, and I had the exact ABS Module in my hand a week later.

Top work.

And only wanted $200 or so, even though in my ad I said I was happy to pay $300.

Gotta love this place.

Hasn't missed a beat since replacing :)

As others have mentioned, it can be a faulty ABS unit. Other causes include dirt/mud/water on a wheel sensor or a faulty battery.

Is it still under warranty? If so, why not have the dealer take a look.

yea i have this problem at the moment, it started a few months after i got the car and i have it for 2 years now , i fixed it at the dealer 3 times to no avail, they keep telling me its a sensor. But this time am going back and let them replace the ABS module cause today i couldve had an accident :(

Yeah me too... Our new Calais V has done the same thing a few times when starting... I had check engine, check abs and esp animations appear really quickly and then disappeared. I told my dealer and he said that Holden knew about it and will have a software update by the time I was in for the 3000km service. But No MIL lights have come up and stayed on or anything. Im guessing a bug in the system...

Be careful driving around with no ABS. If you do run up the back of someone and the insurance find out the ABS is " Disconnected " they may not pay up.

As for price, I had mine rebuilt ----> http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=59066

Absolutely any fault with the ENTIRE ABS SYSTEM can cause the ABS light to come on, from a dirty connector to a dodgy control module.
Best to get it checked out by a dealer first, rather than assuming it's a $720 dollar part.
Especially since it's a VZ ute, (assuming your bio is correct) and it will still be under warranty.

GO SEE A DEALER :cussing:

Mine came up with an ABS fault that sounds like yours. Before worrying about it being the expensice ABS module, check that it's plugged in at the sensors - i found that mine had worked it's way loose on (from memory) the front passengers side, and that was causing the error. That was the cheapest fix i've had in my car - simply plugged it back in.

My V2 GTO has also displayed the ABS traction control light but made no beeping sounds. It comes on for no reason but I have noticed that it did come on after I had released the handbrake at some traffic lights. But then I switch the ignition off/on and it goes away.

Is it serious? Hope not!!

I will have a word with my mechanic when the car goes in for its next service but I'm going to leave it for now as its not really causing any dramas at all - I mean the car is running fine so we'll just see if it gets worse.

Cheers.

With my VT Calais, a few years ago, the traction control light came up a couple of times and each time the service people had to reset the ECU. However, the problem wasn't resolved and the beeping and other warning lights started appearing as mentioned in this thread. Anyway, the ABS module had to be replaced last year and I had to pay $840.

I use to have a ABS light come on all the time in my ute. Sometimes i could get rid of it by turning the car off, and then restarting. When it annoyed me enough, i went to see my auto electrician mate, he dignosed it as a right front abs sensor. We replaced the hub(the sensor is stuck onto it) and the little connector off it for good mesure. Haven't had a reappear.

So my advice, see a auto lacky first, see if than can see whats wrong first.

How much did the auto electrician sting ya if you don't mind me asking - I mean was it a big job for him or just a quick fix. Instead of just replacing the module its a good idea to get a pro to have a look at it first and give his opinion.I will definitely do that too.Good advice mate!!

I got the job at mates rates, But id say its a 350 dollar job for the front abs sensor, as you get the new studs and everything. Makes it costly.

Defiently get a scan tool on it first, any auto lacky should be able to do this.

this has happend to me aswel, and it turned out to be a cable that runs down the passenger side chasis in the engine bay. Theres a plug about 30cms back from the headlight, that comes from the front passenger brake. It was slightly disconnected. This was bringing up the ABS warning light

this problem has now happened to me, but with a slight difference

dash lights have come on mine now 3 times in the last fortnight, but

engine light
oil light
abs light
trac off light
low trac light

freaked my mrs out and nearly put it in a ditch. when i happend to me i pulled over turned the car off. waited 5 minutes then restarted it. still all on. i tested some of the lights that were on,

put my foot down - no trac
put foot down on brake - no abs

drove up the road about 1.5kms then they just all switched off.

took it too mechanic, he guessed that it may be the body sensor. (???). he just pointed me in the direction of the local auto elec

this is only the start of my problems but you will hear about those later:cussing:
