The next Winton Fun Day is scheduled for Sunday January 28th 2007.
The Fun Day is a "come and try" day and is designed to allow the average motorist access to a real race track under controlled conditions.
Cost:
Is $25 per driver and $25 per passenger
Programme:
Normally be there by 8.00 for scrutineering, but this can take some time.
Drivers Briefing at around 9.00 - 9.30
Driver only on track for 30 minutes sighting laps, then
Driver with passenger for 30 minutes, then
Driver only on track for 30 minutes, then
Driver with passenger for 30 minutes, then
Driver only on track for 30 minutes, and so on all day until about 4.30
Requirements:
Bring your car, an Australian Standard Approved helmet, the helmet can be either open or closed face, fire proof clothes that cover you from neck to ankle to wrist (cotton or wool clothes are good). Runners are not the preferred footwear, Blundstones boots (or similar) or any leather type shoe is preferable
Make sure your car has no oil/coolant leaks, fitted seat belts, battery is secure, wheels nuts are tights, no loose items in the car or boot.
The Car does not have to be registered, but has to road/race worthy. Tyres need to be in good nick, tread depth is not normally a problem unless wire is poking out.
There are normally no checks done of lights except for brake lights except if it is an overcast, rainy day, then there may be checks for lights as well as wipers.
Tow bar tongues and bull bars must be removed.
You do not need to have a race licence, club licence or indeed a car licence abut you must be over 16 to drive or be a passenger.
And very importantly, bring a smart, alert attitude, coz there is some very fast cars out there, whilst it is not a race meeting, some people bring race cars and we push them hard to behave appropriately around first timers.
Food and drinks are available through a canteen.

I am not sure what goes on in NSW, but I do believe WP run something similar.

Thanks for the invite Trev
I think it may be a touch cheaper to pay more at Wakefield than fuel to Winton and back.
Camden is full of eating places and real estate agents and not a lot else.

I got my invite in the mail :), spectators are free, drivers and passengers are $25, and it should take 2 - 2 1/2 hours from Melbourne depending on exactly where in Melbourne you are. Hope that helps.

Just remember, it's not a race - it's an opportunity to experience the performance of your car in a safe environment. Trust me when I tell you - you need to have eyes everywhere, there are some damned fast cars there. I was in an Evo 8 and I was playing with the mid fielders......

What is parking like? If you go as a speccy, can you park inside the gate, or are you relegated to outside?
We'll probably head up as speccy's, so Red if you want a lift...

Entry is free, and not many people come to spectate, so come on up. You will enjoy it.

Heaps of room inside for spectators and parking. Best spot (in my opinion) is the short straight before turn 3, aside from being behind the wheel of course....;)

Yep, I was there but in spectators guise only I'm afraid. I wasn't ready to spear off into the kitty litter when my stock brakes cried uncle after one lap so I opted to leave the helmet home. Regretted it completely as I watched the "not scared" crew go out and have a ball, as well as the other Alb/Wod car club guys. Roll on July, and the big brake kit!! :D
OOPS!! As for how the day was - awesome!! Some really nice metal turned up. Was some very tuff cars there. Plenty of action too, some need to curb their excitement a little - are you out there MR black EB falcon driver??? :D He managed to have a big lose at the track entry point before he even got one lap done and the marshal black flagged him right there Bahahahaha:lmao:

yeh i was up there had a great day.
only went out twice after the second session the car was getting a bit hot and i wanted to get home in one peice.
first session was a bit scary u dont realise how quick some of the cars are.being overtaken by old dattos and such is a bit hard to take at first but u get over and enjoy yourself.
second session i was better as i had more confidence to push the car a little more.i think il get the brakes upgraded before i try it again tho.
i would like to thank the organisers for a great day was a good opportunity to drive on the track and have a bit of fun.
would highly recomend eveybody to give it a try next time its on.
thanks subtle.

If you guys get to the track, it will be best time you've ever had. Winton is one of the hardest tracks to get right.

Yes Big Trev I went but only as a speccy.
We got up there at about 10.30 sunday.
All looked good and looked like most drivers / passengers had a ball.
Mabee next time I will have a run around the track ??
Cheers Duck....
