hey guys,
with everyone debating the road toll, and it being in every newspaper ( well here in QLD anyway ) what must we do, to convince the pollies to change the way things are done ?
Almost every magazine editor calls for more driver training/education, 90% of the motor enthusiast ( ie us, and others much alike us ) call for the same thing.
speed is played as a preditor, however whats the reason you, me, and others buy cars like we have ?
hoons in commodores/falcons are called as being the worst things on the road, and whilst i dont condone street racing/skids and whatever, i would rather see a well educated, driver trained 25yo get sideways around a corner, then a 85yo driving a less then registerable vehicle.
so, whilst the question has been asked, many, many many times to stop the carnage on our roads, what do we do, as car enthusiasts to voice our loud opinion ? and actually have somethign come of it ?
or is it worthless ? been tryed before ? whilst i imagine you cant put a price on a young life... apparently the pollies can. whatever speed cameras rake in per yer/per capita i would assume. as really, whist punishing P platers, they havent really done anything.
feel free to add, and if there is anythign we can do i for one would put my hand up.
and before you all whinge about anything, i am a 22 yo, male, drivign a "hoons" v8 commodore with 300+ rwhp, an LS1, as alike with all you folk.
my 2 angry, frustrated cents.

I hear you,
the problem is its a catch 22, you give them advanced training and then they think they are kelly, scaife lowndes etc. Not everyone will but i understand the situation.
I ride bikes and have the desire to a training course to further enhance my riding development, and i can see the bennefits, i know that i am not invincable and that there is a time and a place for things. Problem is the way in which some licences are given out.
Look at the number of people who buy a four wheel drive to drive the kids to school, they are heavier, and larger than a car. obstructing the view of other motorists hence making it extremely hard to see past them or the children as they leave the school.
I think the main responsibility comes down to the parents of the young ones and instill in them a good sense of right and wrong and not be afraid to punish their kids if they do something wrong, as alot of the young live at home so they can afford these cars.
Parents play an important part in our personal development and our morals, so as a comunity we all hate seeing anyone injured on our roads, so it is up to us to tell our friends to settle down or not egg them on. and tell them when they are stupid, as if they are a true friend they will listen and friends dont let friends drink and drive, take drugs and drive.
Peer preasure is a bad thing and if we as a society shun the actions of our friends etc they will learn that they are not impressing anyone and stop ( i hope)
I am no angel and have done some stupid things but i was lucky enough to realise before it was to late.

I remember when I had my VL Turbo, it was impossible to get insured on p's, power to weight they said we could only drive a 253.
Now 18yr olds can drive 300+kw commys, wrx's etcetc some people can make the right decisions but there are alot proving that they cannot.
Power is dangerous in the wrong hands but at the same time the guys who love their cars and spend a fortune doin em up, I would guess are a little more careful not to put them into a tree ( some-most?)
Even the v6 commys have too much power for the blokes that think they know it all and wanna show off.
How can it be sorted out without affecting all the people that dont risk killing other people in the car.
Im no angel, never have been, but I guess the reason I am still alive is partly luck(maybe a big part) and picking your place and time for letting loose can give u more of a chance too.
I personally have a real heavy foot, but not in areas where people are likely to be walking. The thing that helps me behave a bit better is thinking how I would feel if I was responsible for killing a child or anyone through being an idiot and not thinking. I think maybe Im even a bit paranoid about it, but paranoid id better than living with something like that.
We have a massive country, there are so many places where we can head out to where noone will see when you blow ur tyres up or get ur car off the clock. Anyway, Im off to see if I can listen to some of my own ideas, hehe

First of all, there is no great "carnage" out there. This word is oft cited as reason for draconian speed regimes. We have a lower road toll than in the 1950-1970s but 7-8 times as many cars...

as much as id like to see something done, i dont think we can win this one mate. its like everything in the world these days, a few retarded kids fark it up for the rest of us who actually take care on the roads. and what do the rest of us get ?
crazy insurance premiums, and a complete lack of respect from the authorities.

i had also thought of this, i have looked at 0 figures so please dont flame me for it, but i assume there are possible 2-3 times as many cars on the roads ? and whilst i know its happening here on the sunny coast, but the roads are in desperate need of upgrading, and whilst its happening its happening far too slowly..
and i only used the word carnage as its the medias favorite word atm, doesnt matter where you look, they slather it next to the term P plater and its sells papers and makes people watch the news....probably why they are doing so
