View Full Version : HSV E-series seats have no place in Senator

The E-series HSV seats are the most difficult seats to get in and out of in automotive history. Why did HSV refrain from fitting something more tame and tasteful in the Senator? This is a car meant to be targeted at high paid business execs (as if, more like mcmansion owners mortgaged to the hilt), yet when they exit the Senator in the imagined employee car park, they are made to look stupid.

So how is the Senator a luxurious car when its so hard to get in and out of the damned thing? Also, how's it a luxurious car in two years time when the bolsters on the outside of the car look like someone's been rubbing a cheese grater against them? The bolsters will look farked in no time.

Porsche, BMW and Mercedes all demonstrate that lightly bolstered seats can still be effective in high performance applications.

What do the HSV owners on the forum think of these seats? Are they any good and do they belong in a Senator?

I think your confusing the intended purpose of the Senator................

Count on one hand the number of comfortable and luxurious executive Porsches. I think your giving the expensive euros way too much credit.

Have a look at the seats in the RS Audi's. You'll think the HSV's are a park bench after them.

Geez ... stop complaining about the bloody things and buy a Euro ... we get it, you don't like them !!!

Are you sure you are 24 ??? I reckon the seats are bloody fantastic, if you have trouble getting in and out of them maybe the problem lays with you, not the seats ...

If you could afford a Senator you would do one of two things because you have that much money hanging from your rear end.
1) Buy new seats or have them recovered when they wear out.
2) In two years time something better would have been released so the Senator will get traded in.

I own a new GTS which has even more bolstered seats and I think they are fantastic. With no problems getting out of them. I'd go as far to say there would be few better on the market. Most euros are like flat benches, hardly what you would call luxurious.

Bugger, knew I'd be too late, you beat me to it - I'd love to take a set of the new style beige Senator Seats off anyones hands. Must be all round good guy too LOL..

Whilst I freely admit I have not driven the Senator for long periods, it was something I seriously considered purchasing - one of the reasons was the seats and wider rear tyres over the Calais V.

My Calais V has low bolsters and sure it looks sweet as, until of course you drive it and hit the twisties hard. IMHO your always fighting to stay seated in the right place. Its my biggest (probably the only) real criticism of the Calais V - peeves me big time, and its my car so I can say that.

Suppose its horses for courses but for me low bolsters suck and at one stage I was contemplating how I would get Senator seats into my Calais V;)

I love the seats in mine. Very supportive and I have no problem getting in or out. If they wear or colapse then I'll try and get HSV to fix it (if inside 3 years/100,000Km), else it'll be somebody elses problem.

Nothing like being up front and callin a spade a spade, there is not enough of it, but many ppl are too thin skinned to cop it on the chin IMHO LOL...

They are top seats ... I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about (I am 27) ... I find them pretty easy to get in and out of ... if you want smaller variants why would you buy the Senator ... why not the Calais V (or you could always swap them out with one of the guys here). I mean from what you are saying you dont want a Senator style of car anyway. Yes, the Senator is a luxury car but it shares pretty much everything with the GTS which also makes it somewhat of a muscle / track machine. Not really the old exec machine I would imagine you are talking about. Perhaps a 530i would be suitable ...

Simply put ... it is NOT everything for everyone ... it has a very very specific purpose and market (which doesnt seem to be what you are looking for).

I reckon that HSV have (continued) to do something very right, if there is but one person who considers the seats to be a concern.

As previously stated/intimated - for the price, the Senator is a RIPPER and certainly serves it up to more expensive cars in relation to features/performance/price.

It is a Senator - they are good luxury/performance cars!

Cheers,

Yer there the same......I'm just playing.

They should of had the adjustable kidney bolsters like the new M3 coupe. Then the seats could give you a hug cool............:woot:

I have an E series Senator and find the seats are great. I really don't understand how you can have a problem with them unless you have a seriously narrow garage (or car space) and can't open your door far enough to get out. I think this would be a problem regardless of your seat style.

Love my Senator!

In the VZ i would place my hand at the bottom of the door frame and lift myself over the side bolster. Can't do that in VE because they have curved the bottom of the door frame where I would otherwise place my hand.

the new RS4's seats lol. check them out.

And the new M5 has motors in individual parts of the seat, so when you are flat out in a corner the seat moves and supports you.
