View Full Version : EOI ... Bathurst Private Box 2007

Hi Guys,

I have been contacted by V8 Supercars about hiring a private box at Bathurst again this year, I am going to place a tentative booking on a box for 20 people. The box is situated on top of the new Hotel at the Chase, we will be some 4 storeys up and the view is pretty spectacular.

I am not sure on price yet but I think we can assume a ball park of $1000 per person, this would cover the box for 4 days (Thursday - Sunday), VIP parking, full paddock access for 4 days, program and hopefully some food over the weekend. I'll need to confirm all of this when further details are available.

Please note ... this price does not include accommodation !!!

If you want to come I need you to let me know ASAP, please don't say you are interested if you don't think you are at least 98% sure, I don't want to book this and then have half the people that expressed interest pull out at the last minute.

Post up interest and I'll see how we go.

Maybe those that have been to the prior years (that we had the private box) can post some feedback on the experience, it is a fantastic way to watch the race and a top weekend all round.

For those that missed out.....all i can say is boy did you miss out, and if we get in the top of the new resort as Nick mentioned, the view will be 1 million times better than anything capable of being seen from track level!!!

Very much agree Kurt (esp the Ryzz bit :)) and that was with a ground level corporate box.

Imagine what the viewing will be like from the roof of the newly established resort built at The Chase.:yahoo:

This is a very worthwhile venture to anyone interested and beats the shit outta jostling with the hords of cattle all around the track. Stroll up, show ya pass and be front seat at Bathurst all within 10 minutes of arriving at the track .... hard to beat that IMHO. :woot:

Looking into it Geoff ... they haven't actually finished the place and are not taking bookings until May.

If I find out anything I'll let you know ... I'd appreciate it if anyone else that hears anything does the same for me.

I'd consider flying over for it Nick but a few issues to sort out first -

1) Where can I send the Mrs and kids really cheap for 4 days ? Like for $200 max... (that'll leave me $4,800 for my holiday portion. Sound fair ? ), and

2) I'd need a lift from Sydney to Bathurst and back in a Coupe 4 or E GTS .... :stick: :hide:

Seriously though, I have said for many years I'd love to get over for Bathurst...

Please still let me know if you are still keen, I expect some people to pull out (always happens) so the final 20 is far from decided.

I have made an enquiry about accommodation at Mt Panorama Resort but based on what the people from V8 Supercar said they aren't taking bookings for a few months yet. Anyone keen on securing something at the resort should probably contact them now ... google Mt Panorama Resort and go from there.

Thanks for that valuable contribution ... opinions, like arseholes, don't always need to be shared with everyone either. If you had ever done this weekend you wouldn't be saying it's a waste of money !!!

UPDATE ...

Guys ... we can get up to 40 people in this box, the more we have the cheaper it is. At the moment we are looking at around $1,000 each as estimated, the more numbers we get the cheaper it gets ... so spread the word !!!

If we can get the numbers up to 40 we will be looking at around $750 each including food for Saturday & Sunday.

Those wanting accomodation should get onto it now, I am not organising accomodation for 30 - 40 people and it does book up pretty early. There are lots of options and there are lots of smaller towns outside of Bathurst as well as Orange & Lithgow if really deperate. The Mt Panorama Resort is taking names and they will be contacting people in April / May for possible bookings ... this is not a guaranteed starter though so it would be wise to book somewhere else in the meantime if you can.

I will be needing a deposit off everyone to secure the booking, no idea when or how much at this stage, probably $100 or so. I'll post up as soon as I know more details.

Numbers are looking great guys, should be a fantastic weekend ... keep 'em coming !!!

Geoff: I'm interested, any idea of cost for 1 bedroom in your apartment?

Nick: If I can get an accomodation share (say with C4B) and offer of transport from Sydney/Bathurst return I'm in but would need to firm up in reasonable time to ensure flights across the Tasman. A lot of locals go to Bathurst which fill up the flights before and after the weekend. I last went in 2003.

Checking the artists impression (last years Bathurst magazine)of the building, it appears that the corporate box's will be on the Bathurst end of the roof (LHS)rather than the mountain half (RHS toward the chase) and if so the views won't be as good as they can be. Can it be confirmed where on the roof it is located?

Not 100% at this stage ... I do know that we will supposedly be able to see some of the straight and the chase. There are 3 boxes planned for the roof of the complex and we will have 1st pick as I got my name first. I plan to request the box closest to the chase.

I have also asked about outside access, the plan is that the box will be set back from the edge of the roof and will have 2 TVs inside. We will have a court yard of sorts in front of the box, this will enable us to stand right at the edge of the roof (behind a fence of course) and watch the action below ... basically the same as the boxes on the pit complex roof.

As soon as I have more info I will post it up ... the resort managers are reluctant to give out any information at this stage, all details should be available in the next few months.

NickS,

If you goto http://www.mountpanoramaresort.com.au/ you can see the pic I am looking at. It appears that the left hand side of the top floor is the only area that could be used for corporate box's due to fencing being inplace (and I assume proper access)

Thanks Michael,

I see what you mean now, that pic has the GMC bridge in it and the angle of the resort at that point is basically the angle that boxes were on last year. It is further down the track but it will be much higher up. We won't have a direct view up Conrod but I reckon we will still be able to see all of the chase pretty easily.

On a serious note, NickS - should we simply wait for you to contact us as info arises or can we commit/pay deposits now to secure spots??

Good question ... glad you asked.

There is still a small chance that the boxs on the roof won't go ahead, very unlikely that they won't but they still can't say with 100% certainty until the resort gives them clearance. In the (very unlikely) event that the boxes don't go ahead will will get a box on the outside of the chase. This is the same position we were in last year and is a great spot, doesn't have the views of the roof top but a fantastic position all the same. This is guaranteed, we will have a box without doubt.

I will need to pay a deposit soon so will need to get $200 per person to cover this. Not exactly sure what the final price will be but if the numbers stay up around 40 it will definately be under $1000. Can I ask that everyone sends me $200 per place they wish to reserve, this will ensure you have a spot. Easiest way is via internet banking. I will ask Ryzz to PM you all my account details (he can do it in one hit) ... as the money comes in I will confirm your place.

Great stuff! Knowing that at 'worst' we will have the box from last year (wasn't there but heard it was great anyway - so the 'worst' is still bloody good!) enables me to make some permanent plans and acutally commit to accomodation as it arises!:woot:
All that is needed is 40 deposits. Great to see this getting off the ground!

Hi Nick, sorry to say but I'll be the first to bale out.

I've tried to confirm accomodation in Bathurst without success. So I rang my mates in my old home town who I went with back in 2003. They are planning another trip this year and have offered me a spot. It's simply easier for me as I pay them for airfare, minibus, accomodation and tickets.

Apologies again, but hope I can catch up with you at the track come October.

For all those who are interested in purple monkey dishwasher and GAZEBO's get you name down and deposit in FAST ! This will be a hoot. :yahoo:

Although, for those who prefer a more Bovine approach to viewing Bathurst, this may not be for you ... the walking up to an uncrowded area with zero queues may be a bit much to handle ...

Nick, food and  .... is that in close proximity to the box (or in the box?) or do we go down with the 'plebs' for a feed/drink?

Nick, food and  .... is that in close proximity to the box (or in the box?) or do we go down with the 'plebs' for a feed/drink?

The plan is that we will have some food and drink in the box on Saturday and Sunday ... softdrink should be included, alcohol will be extra.

Thursday & Friday we have to eat with the plebs, but it's not real crowded so it's very easy to get around and find something to eat. Pretty easy to get to the paddock, across the GMC bridge and you're there.

I need to finalise details about the weekend catering later in the piece, but what I described above is what we did last year ... worked really well and they should be happy to do the same this year. The estimated $1000 included all of this ... except for the alcohol.

Definately camping areas, you may need to get in early to book something. Bottom of the mountain is fairly tame, I don't think yahoo's would be a problem down there.

For those that have not organised accommodation yet, I would get in quick.
I have been trying to get some for the last week and everywhere I have rang is already booked out.

Every hotel/motel, camping site, B&B and guesthouse in Bathurst is full. I have found a house at $3000 for the weekend but that might be gone already to.

If anyone is interested, post up and I can look into getting a house for the weekend although there are only 1 or 2 that I know of.

I will be organising something else tonight or tomorrow if there is no interest.

Was thinking about buying a crap bicycle and riding to the track each day i.e. avoiding traffic and able to have a bevvie or two  - for those been before, the trip from Bathurst to the track each day, is it a long way or a mountain climb? Hey TCB57 its $200pp deposit to NickS.

Accommodation is pretty lean even this early. Last year i stayed at the O’Connell Hotel (got a room in July) its a basic bed and shower and about 15-20kms out of town. Its attached to a nice country pub that does some pretty good food. You could try them on 02 6337 5745 and see what you can get.

*cough* Update Please *cough*

What do you want updated ... the race is in October, we have to wait till then.

Word is that the building should be complete by the end of this month, which probably means next month. They are basically 100% sure the box will be on the roof ... there will be 3 boxes up there, I get first pic. The marque will be set towards the rear of the roof and there will be a 3 - 4m verandah in front of each marque, which we are free to use. We will be able to stand at the very edge of the roof, behind a fence of course.

No word on accomodation in the resort yet.

Yes there are still spots available, $200 deposit will secure you a spot.

Any updates on Hotel Accom yet? I rang a while ago but no info available. Im keen to book at the hotel as soon as i can.

I'm told that I will be advised as soon as they are taking bookings, I have no idea why they are leaving it so late.

I was speaking with the V8 Supercars people last week and they have confirmed that work has really picked up on the resort, it is supposed to be ready for use this year (although they can not guarantee this as they have nothing to do with the resort). I gather there may be some issue with who is actually in charge of the place and as such no one is taking bookings yet.

Rest assured Stu, as soon as I hear anything Geoff & yourself will be the first to know as you have both expressed the most interest in booking something and you have the furthest to travel.

Edit ... on another note, I'll be asking for the balance of the payment soon guys, I will need it before the end of July !!!

FINAL PAYMENTS

Time to start collecting final payments guys. Can you each please send through $800 per person, I am still not sure on the exact figure required but it will be no more than the $1000 per person quoted at the start of this thread. When I have the details finalised in relation to food etc. I will make sure any excess funds are returned to everyone.

I need to make this payment in the first week of August ... that gives everyone 8 weeks to get the funds together. If you want to send it now that is quite OK, if you need some time to get the money together that is also fine, that's why I'm giving heaps of notice. I am also fine with several payments if that makes it easier, $100 pw for example, whatever suits you.

PAYMENTS BY 31st JULY PLEASE !!!

I only just came across this thread and am thinking.....Bloody oath!
Usually at home every year with the mates. We have a different boys' style activity we indulge in each year......be it Slot Cars, RC cars, Go Karts, Racing simulators, RC planes, musical jamming etc etc.
All went horribly wrong last year with my 23 year old nephew rolling my 4WD on my farm....thought it would be a good idea to hoon around like a dickhead without the 6 point harness on. Broken ribs, punctured lung, battered ego you get the idea. Lucky to not get crushed as the beast had an open top with rollcage and almost tossed him out as it did the 2 and a half barrel roll. Not a nice feeling seeing that from 300 metres away. Longest 300 metre drive I've ever done in my off road Go Kart to get down to him...was thinking the worst.
Anyway, might be the year to do something different.
How's the list looking Nick? Anyone got a spare spot for a bed? Cheers guys.

Still no word on accomodation in the hotel, but anyone I know that has rung around for accomodation has been able to find something. Depending on how keen you are there always seems to be LS1 guys camping for the weekend, I recall several threads about it last year. If you can find some accomodation it will be worth it, it's a sensational weekend.

I have saw a few pics of the building about a month ago and it was pretty close to finished. I have no idea what it's like now but I believe they have some sort of grand opening in the first week of August, so I would assume it will be completed by then.

Forget the hotel for accom - if you are serious about going there will still be B&B accommodation available , go web surfing or get a travel agent to book it ..... my experience of the B&Bs is that they are a great way to spend the weekend in Bathurst

just found this forum through google and since I'm currently living in Bathurst I thought I would let you know that there is limited accomodation still avalable - try the Tourist Info centre for B&B or there is a new area called Tent City contact through aveco website. Hope this helps. Let me know if you want any further info.

An update on the local news tonight had the project manager stating that they cannot confirm if the new motel/building/resort will be finished before this years race, they are hoping for a finish in late september. It seems that the big run of wet weather and rain has caught them out.

That's weird ... I have had an email from the company managing the resort (Mecure) saying that they are in the process of finalising which rooms / apartments will be available for rent and they will be allocating the rooms to those on the wait list (some 300 names long) in the first week of August ?

No worries Barney ... I know what it's like at this time of year.

Some of the guys coming from outside the world of LS1 have arranged some accomodation. They have a house in George Street, walking distance to the track. I assume it could well end up with some sleeping on the lounge etc. ... but we don't tend to sleep a whole lot so that won't be a big issue. The house is pretty close to where I'm staying a few of the TC guys, we will no doubt organise some BBQs etc. for dinner each night, should be heaps of fun.

If anyone needs a place to crash let me know and I'll pass it on to the organiser, $200 per person for the weekend ... plus the mandatory case of beer / bottle of grog. I know all of the guys staying in the house and they are good blokes ... early 40s, married with kids ... you won't be staying with a bunch of morons.

Just about everyone has paid or advised that they will be paying soon ... thanks heaps guys, it's going really well, I can't wait.

Sadly (as Nick already knows) the slackasses running the Mt Panorama Resort have still failed to take any bookings (despite me putting my name down god knows how long ago) so as per my original post (below) I'll settle with plugging the data projector in to watch the race this year. If there a person interested in joining the rest of the guys in my place, you'll save yourself $200 on the ticket (ie. my deposit).

I've paid my $200.

As I said in my original post. I will only be coming IFF I get accomodation at the new resort.... No accomodation -> Not coming!

Just wanted to re-iterate that now.

i heard this rumor a whil ago, and yer just seen it on the news.

they've gone into recivership as vzss said, that doesnt mean anything is going to stop tho. its completly different from liquidation etc.

its basically the company that owns the land and building is in a finanicial mess and has been taken over by big wig accountants to get it all sorted out.
it doesnt mean that there broke thats why they builders are still building.

so from here the company will euither pull through and be fine, or go bust.
either way the mount will still be finished, but when it will be finished who knows...

Seems the developers are the ones having financial problems... not the first time something like that's happened. As for construction continuing - I don't understand it myself. From the outside it doesn't seem like there's a lot left to do, hopefully they can get it finished in time.

As for the other stuff ... getting info. out of these people is like getting blood out of a stone !!! All we know is there is a possibility that our box won't be on top of the resort, if it isn't on top it will be right in front of it ... no major problem. V8 Supercars apparently have the rights to use the roof but they haven't received authority to put the boxes up there yet, seems if the boxes aren't up there we may get access to the roof anyway.

Other matters, as mentioned the final payment has been made. I expect to get the passes mid-September, I can send them out if you want or we can just meet up in Bathurst and you can get them then ... I don't mind either way. We have just finalised the food / drinks for the weekend, HUGE thanks to Scotty for handling all of this, he has done an awesome job, after the drag day I needed to get away from this sort of stuff for a bit. Thanks mate, greatly appreciated.

They have reported that the owners of the building/resort have actually gone into receivership, they cannot continue to finance construction and that their options are to sell it as is and put in a management company to oversee its operations short term, or continue construction and then sell it completed. THe reciever is from Deloitte??.

From yesterday's Bathurst paper:

"Meanwhile, V8 Supercar events general manager Shane Howard said news the resort was unlikely to be completed in time for the October race weekend was a great disappointment.

He had hoped the resort's rooftop would provide the perfect setting for a major corporate event on race weekend.

The Panorama Club had attracted 400 subscribers, each paying $800 in membership fees for the privilege.

But Mr Howard said there was already a back-up plan in place because of uncertainty surrounding the development.

"It would have been a fantastic opportunity. We came so close, but yet so far," he said.

Mr Howard said corporate guests would be entertained where they were last year – on the ground outside the resort.

"Really, though, it is nothing more than an inconvenience," he said.

"People were hopeful, as we all were, but we sold the tickets on the basis that if it was finished, we could enjoy that facility."

Those 4 cartons are just for me, i like to have a choice. If you want JD then you need to arrange your own :stick:

Nick: if you need to "pre-buy" the booze can you make sure there is at least 2 cartons of Bourbon (jim beam) and 2 of Bundy Rum.

What do you mean by "carton" mate ... is that a bottle, case of cans ??? I don't drink the stuff so I don't know what you mean.

I'll need to check, they may not have it on offer anyway. Let me know exactly what your after and we will see what we can do.

OK guys ... not long to go now !!!

All the corporate ticketing has been finalised and I have all the passes / lanyards / wrist bands. Every person will get a lanyard with 4 passes, 1 for each day (duh !!!) and 4 wrist bans marked Thurs - Sun. The wrist bands are the paper things like they issue at the drags (in NSW anyway) and they can't be removed without breaking them. You need both the wrist band and the corporate pass to get access to the box on each day.

I can send the passes out or I can meet you at the track up there and give you the passes then (PM me for my mobile number). Can everyone please let me know their preference. If you want them mailed PM me your address and I'll send everything in a secure postpack. If the Sydney guys want to come and pick them up from me that's fine also, I'm on the North Shore near Hornsby.

If you want them mailed out I accept no responsibility for what happens after they leave me ... we have had mail lost before, the risk is yours.

Do our passes give us access to the VIP parking area? I can't remember reading it on them.

It's getting close

They sure do ... just flash your pass at the gate and they will let you in.

I visited the track yesterday and took a whole bunch of photos, that new building at the chase looks impressing, and would give you a hell of a view from the top if you get up there, very jealous of you lot now.

Can post pics if people want

Thanks mate, i didnt think they were too bad considering the rest of the people in the car didnt want to visit the track, so i had to take photos and do the driving, (had to do it forwards and backwards, they loved that ), its not as easy as it seems to take photos and drive around a stretch of road like that, i must say though, its good to see the Brocky supporters have written on the wall again, much to the disgust of the council i bet.

Have a great trip guys, i envy all of you for it......

Just a matter of curiosity but were you guys able to BYO drinks into the circuit? If so, what entrance did you go in? The main entrance half-way up Pit Straight, or did you use the entrance to the Chase alongside the Motor Musuem?

Thanks
