Same here Sean. It's been great getting feedback from a bunch of knowledgable people who are more used to driving/buying these new fangled cars than I am and not just kids seeing who can fit the biggest wheels and exhaust. :)
Driving the same car for the last 21 years the VE has been a revelation and after the last trip I wondered how on earth I did the Brisbane trip last year in the old VL, regardless of how good a shape she's in.
Finally I do not feel like the only person with this car! Spotted at least 5 of them in the carpark at the L&H 500 at Phillip Island yesterday!

Ash3....I am the only person in Port Hedland that has one of the wagons. Being the Atomic Metallic green it stands out against the red dirt. People actually stop to look when its in the carpark. I find it amusing. Gonna enjoy the fame until somone else gets one. Plenty of V8's in town but only 1 wagon...MINE! heheheh.

How I wish WanaVE. Problem is people know whos car it is and therefore I cant be seen to be doing anything 'wrong'. lol...
Plus I am paranoid about people wanting to scratch it etc with it parked somewhere. Unfortunately there are people around who will damage a car just because they feel like it and bugger the consequences.

Most Sportswagon reviews by the way say that the V8/auto is the driveline of choice, as is the Calais V the body of choice, particularly with the Light Urban interior, which looks 500% than the dark black interiors.
Rick
Sorry Rick, the light Urban gets too dirty, dont like the colour anyway.
But on the Calais-V V8 I agree 100%

What model did you order??
I've ordered a SV6. I couldnt stand the old style 4 speed auto in the lower models.

You won't be disappointed, the V6 fits nicely with the 5 speed auto.
This car continues everyday to give me alot of enjoyment, far exceeding my expectations.

I saw a White Clubsport Sportwagon today, a white one.
not that different only the front Bar and guards, back is the same.
i am really loving the look of the sportswagon.....i reckon an SS-V Auto with tune and exhaust, some kings and bilsteins would be an awesome all rounder.

Well we finally decided on replacing the old VS Wagon (thank god) with a spanking new Calais Sportwagon!
Very excited, it's one amazing car (though I would have prefered Karma over the Sandstorm my dad chose, but it's a decent enough colour all the same
Only major issue is the 8 week wait for one...not a single Sandstorm Calais wagon anywhere within Victoria:rolleyes: (plus there's apparently a plant shutdown for 2 weeks in Oct?)
But when your getting a staff discount, who's really going to notice 8 weeks eh?

The V6 or the V8?
And can anyone else shed light on the plant shutting down for 2 weeks and if it is just myth or reality?

It's only the base Calais, so V6 of course
Well we've been told by Booran Holden (not the dealer we're getting the car through btw) that there is a production shutdown, and my uncle (who works on head office) told us a similar tale after a little investigating, so I'll believe that
Only thing is, why have a shutdown in Oct?

Retooling for VF and/or engine upgrades I hope. DOD on V6 & V8, Direct Injection for V6 and LPG liquid injection - we can only hope

I sure hope that is exactly what they are doing.
My dealer told me they are only shutting down mid December for a month.
I reckon a DoD V8 would save me a lot of fuel as I sit in traffic a lot, where it could idle on 4 cylinders instead of 8.
A direct injection V6 (with 225kw? & 380Nm?) is long overdue. The current 195kw 340Nm V6 is slow in comparision to the FG Falcon.
Also on thew wish list:
- 6L50E 6-speed auto for the V6
- Liquid gas injection option on ALL models including the V8's.
As an older bloke my dream car would be a Calais 6.0L V8 running liquid gas injection.
Urgently needed:
* DOD
* SUNA for the satnav (Ford has it now)
* front reading lamps for the SS-V
* and if the budget stretches that far, a glovebox light for SS & SSV [why does Europe not think much of our cars?]

Re your comment about the plant closure in October. A friend of mine who does consulting work for production plants, has also heard about the October closure and he believes is because on slower sales in the sedan and Holden not wanting to build up too much 2008 plated stock before year end (Holden would rather have Nov/Dec plated stock on hand than Sept/Oct stock going into the 2009 year).
If that is the case, then why would there significant delays in the wagon delivery dates?

I know my post won't interest most, but were on holiday atm taking the family north to Brisbane for a weeks holiday @ Hervey Bay. We hired an Omega wagon alloytec, brand spanking new. I don't mind the six & was surprised with its performance. The auto took a while to get used to has the sport mode & normal but found it very sensitive under even light throttle. Relatively quiet to drive with little or no body rattles.
The only negatives I experienced was the very floaty suspension especially so under heavy acceleration. Did notice some front suspension clunks but weren't too bad. Cargo area looked deceiving but handled five suitcases no drama. Maybe more room if the battery was in the bay. All in all I'd recommend one for a family as seemed to handle most I threw @ it.

Well just completed an 1800km trip to Perth. Must admit it was a comfy ride. Fuel consumption figures had me worried at first but she soon settled down to a respectable 10.4lt/100km. This was achieved driving at 110km/h on cruise control, open road with some quick overtaking.
The car handled beautifuly. Steering was very responsive though the suspension was a little bumpy when driving slowly on lumpy roads. Acceleration was fantastic and responsive. I arrived home in one piece and so did the car. Now to wash the million or so bugs off the front. Bugger!
Worse part is the return 1800km back to Port Hedland next week. At least I know the car is up to the trip, even though the driver is not. Now for the 3000km complimentary service and a short list of things that need fixing.

Hiya NewVLT....just little things like loose mudflaps, loose door seals and the fuel receiver opening wobbles around a bit. Nothing major, I just want things sorted out before going back up north. Not easy getting a car serviced up there. Also be needing a paint touch up stick, if there is such a thing. Already got a few paint chips from road trains. Bloody impossible to keep the paintwork in perfect condition. :vpo:

Got a call from my dealler today to advise the SV6 Sportwagon has arrived :) and was asked when I would like to pick it up. Problem being I still have to wait until 27th Oct as this is when my current lease ends :bawl:
Will be a sad day to hand back the Adventra as it has been a great car. Just hope the Sportwagon is as good as the Adventra, have had no problems at all with it over the 3 year period and 90000kms.

Yeah, I noticed that after my Brisbane trip. The good thing about the Karma colour and the original black colour of the bumpers is that the couple of chips I have aren't showing up. Nothing on the metal so far but I did need to buy a new plastic chrome strip above the grille as the original one copped a couple of big stones.
Some dealers (Metro Holden) were mixing up little bottles of touch up paint but I'm not sure if they're still doing it.
I've only got a couple of things to get looked at on mine but they seem to have been damaged at the detailing stage before I got it. The black strip below the drivers window (outside) has a scuff on it and the upright strip that runs up the drivers door on the A-pillar has some weird bloom type marks on it. Maybe just something in the plastic from new but it won't come off whatever it is. Maybe I'm just being too picky.

Got the car back after the 3000km complimentary service. Took 2 hours. I made a very short list of things to be done and 1 hasnt been taken care of. The rear moulded mudflaps are loose. There are only 2 screws holding them in but there is a spot for a 3rd to make it really secure. Perhaps im being picky.
Got a little bottle of touch up paint in Atomic. Costs $14.00. Now to wait for a nice dry day and apply it. So far no dinks on the bumper but there is one on the wheel arch drivers side and on the bonnet driver side. Only 6 weeks old...boohoo! Also 2 small marks on the windscreen from stones...bloody roadtrains.
WYATTW.....dont fret about handing the adventurer back. Ive driven one (auto) and compared to the new wagon, you are in for a lot of fun. Are you getting a manual? If so, more fun than an auto, but Im biased towards manuals. Happy driving.

Just thought you may want to know....A friend of mine has the SSV sedan. Shes got 20's on her car and so far its cost a fortune in tyres. Dont know the causes but 3 new tyres needed in less than a year. Shes had to pay around $600ea. Makes me gald I have only the 18's. They should be less costly to replace when the time comes. The ride in the SS is very good. I felt it got a littl bumpy when driving slowly (40km/h due to road works) on uneven roads. At 70km/h+ the ride is smooth. Handling is great and cornering is very assuring. Some time back I mentioned that I had about 100kg of potting mix in the back of the wagon. This added weight made handling even better and the car felt glued to the road.
Hope this helps.

The ride difference is the FE2 on the SS.
I have always had FE2, I know it’s a bit harder, but for me, if its that or driving a boat!, I’ll take the FE2.
I took mine in for its 3000K today, you’re going to love this!!!
The right hand lug in the carpet that holds the floor mats in place on the passenger side did not stay put.
They say ( wait for it ) they need to replace the whole carpet!!, so they are going to have to strip the interior of the car to fix it.
In the VY it is mounted to the floor, not the carpet.
Don’t break one, it would be expensive.

Yep agreed, the SV6 also has the FE2.
I'm in Perth at the moment for work and have a Belina hire car, with the stock suspension and it feels like a boat!
Add to that, it only has the low output V6 and the four speed auto which is crud.
Very happy I went for the SV6 after driving the near base.

Well I have now had my one ("It's Red, like a Fire Engine Mate!") for a whole 14 days, of which I have been home for 5 of them.
Only 550 kms so far but absolutely loving it. Would love it even more if the stereo did full iPod control (like for example a $21K i30) and thought that Holden should not have tried to save 13 cents on the trip computer.
I mean the Belina get's a better one than a SS-V! What's up with that?
Included one or two umm...quickish runs, a lot of very "enthusiastic" overtaking (it just makes you want to do it, really it does officer), but most of the time spent on cruise at 113km/h with a pretty big load on board. It'd be interesting to hear what other lighter V8 models get with no load.
What do you classify as a 'lighter V8'?
From the weights, the Calasis and SS-V are about the same?

Not sure if it's true, but certainly with the colour screen in the SS-V and Calais's there really isn't a reason that they don't make it (at the least) an option.

That would be annoying seeing as how we only just put our order in:bawl:
And we've been told that our order has been delayed until late November from a early-November delivery timetable....considering the order was put through in early-Sept, a 10 or so week wait seems just a little long...
Looks like the V8's get DOD from January 1...lets hope there arn't any sneaky V6 changes to go with it (or this shall be one unhappy camper...)
Is the 1 Jan date confirmed for DOD (AFM)?
Disappointing I know for those who have ordered, but would be really good to pool our knowledge re what is in this upgrade.
Personally we are lucky (?) in that we cannot afford to order our wagon (SS-V M6 in silver with the chrome side strips, sunroof and Calais roof console) just yet, so will now hold off till the picture is clearer.
So, we have candidates for the upgrade:
* DOD/AFM
* 6.2 litre (separate thread)
* reversing camera
* maybe TMC (Traffic Mesage Channel), he says in hope
* maybe a bit less weight in SS-V to sneak under the tyre issue ??
* other?
And I see it as a VE II, not VF. Even back as far as the EH, Holden have had a policy of changing engines with one upgrade, usually a minor upgrade, then the body at the next change whilst keeping the engine unchanged. The exception was the VN, where circumstances caught them out - and the result was an engine upgrade to the V6 within a year to give it a balance shaft and reduce the torque (we hate torque don't we) etc. The classic recent example was the LS1 into the VTII. Not sure re the Alloytech - maybe it was VZ (which was little different otherwise from VYII anyway)?

Yes, although the factory closes before Christmas until aroung mid January usually, so it's really mid January onwards. Also in auto only. See the Holden web site.

Thanks mac06, much appreciated.
Interesting that it says 6 litre, so maybe those 6.2 litre rumours are not true (yet). And you are right, we knew it was auto-only, but you do wonder why - maybe so that the transition from 4 to 8 cylinders is masked better?

Well they fixed the faulty mat lug on the passenger side.
What a job, it must have cost Holden at least $2000 to fix a $3 plastic part.
1½ days labor, the carpet, 10 body trims, then when I got in the coin box would not open, the panel around the auto selector had a gap on one side and screw driver pry marks, and there were scratches on the power window switches.
So it was straight back into the shop to get them all replaced.
Looks all ok now, no rattles, and it all looks like new again.
What a design, the wife said the one in her wagon ( VY ) was broken, so I got one from spares when I was dropping of the Sportwagon, $2.99, I think the design on the VE has gone backwards.

haha, I'd actually like to buy a SS-V wagon for her to drive. Mines a company car, so I had no option for a V8. I think the plan would be that she'd have the V8 for the week, and I'd take the SS-V for the weekend.
Would make the garage look pretty sweet. :)

Has anyone seen the Partitioning Net ($396 on the Holden web-site)? It looks as if it would be far easier to install and remove compared to the standard Rigid Mesh Cargo Barrier.
It looks as if the Partitioning Net is a new option - I have not noticed it before.............

Canters...the net would def be an easier sollution but that it prolly wont stop much in a crash/acci....Ive got the rigid in my ssv...its a bit of a pain in the rear to remove/relocate but its a small price to pay for skull security in to unfortunate event of a bingle.
Note...the rigid Mesh barrier( in my ride ) rubs against the roof lining when in the forward position ( behind the front seats ), be warned it WILL wear your roof lining.
Peace. get on it and whip it

Further to my earlier comment, the Partitioning Net would have the additional advantage of being able to be stored in the car (in the sub-floor on top of the spare) and used when required.

Well we order our car a few weeks ago, and orignally asked for a full mesh barrier (always had em) and the other week dad's brother (who we're putting the order through) asked if we wanted to change over to this new netting-style barrier
Dad said no on that though, the idea of stopping quickly with a a full trunk didnt excite him too much. Netting will also most surely wear and tear over time, where as the barrier wont, and it really isnt that big a hassle to put in and out

We have a VZ wagon at work with the rigid barrier and it creaks and croans and rattles over bumps and is a total pain in the back side. The last thing I'd won't in my own car is that! Surely the net is capable of providing adequate occupant protection in an emergency braking situation.

But, what you will probably find is that the ridgid barrier is rated to deal with xx of force in an emergency situation; the net will be a whole lot less - if any rating at all.

I have been using a cargo tie down net instead in my old VY. Recently I had a frontal collision and while the net flexed quite a bit and the cargo moved a bit it didn't break, and nether did the floor which doesn't even have proper tie down hooks.
BTW it only cost me $20 at Supercheap Auto. There would probably be better quality ones available somewhere.
With the VE's proper tie down hooks, I'd be comfortable using a good strong tie down net or two. You could also add the flexible net that fits to the roof behind the seat as well.

I have had a VS wagon with the rigid barrier in the past, no sound.
The wife drives a VY with a Rigid barrier, no sound.
I have one in my Sportwagon, no sound. They just need to be in tight.
On the Sound system, its quite good, there is no booming to overcome.

The way things are going with car sales you should be able to get really great deals from any dealer on the VE"s.
Disregard the prices on the Holden website and go for it if you are in the market for a VE wagon etc.
Mike
I agree, thanks Mike.
I guess that was my issue, ie the economy is in trouble, the large car segment is in trouble, Holden (and Ford more so) is in trouble, partly because at the end of the day they just don't get cars. And imports will have to go up, making the local product more competitive. So, they raise their prices! Good strategy...
How about they see it as an opportunity to regain market share rather than a greed opportunity, make a song and dance and drop $500, given that they are dropping more than that in the showroom apparently anyway.
Or even announce 'no change' when all the imports go up.
I feel better now that's off my chest.
What discount are people getting off their Wagons (particularly SS-V)? I know there is another thread re this, but it was unclear and ended up being hijacked.
Thanks,

First it was the Holden TV ads stating in 2008 they would be launching AFM or DOD on the 6.0lt, only to find it's from January 2009, now we have a rear view camera option, but wait there's more...or less ?? :flip2:
Rear View Camera (not available with V8 engine) $500.00 RRP* :flipoff:
You just have to ask the obvious question, what the heck has a V8 engine got to do with a rear view camera being available?
And they wonder why they aren't selling cars, just maybe because they aren't giving buyers what they want..or expect in 2008.
When you spend your "hard earned" $$ who wants to buy a new car the same as the old one but with just a later build date ?
Ford did that with the BA 2002 - 2008 and they can't undertsand why people who change lease cars every 2 or three years buy a brand they once would never have bought, then wonder why they can entice them back into a local brand...after they find it wasn't such a dog after all... well hello !
Ford and Holden both need to think seriously of keeping buyer loyalty and updating their cars every 2 years like they used to, with nothing major save that till the brand new model but just a freshen up like the look of the FG should have been the 2004 BF rather than run the BA into the ground like a HQ Holden when every man and his dog had one, why ?? because there was nothing else on bloody offer.
Been counters and advertisers for car manufacturers are like the judicial sytem judges...way out of touch with reality and what people want and expect.
Just my view... sick and tired of waiting for nothing...
I agree 100% SS V8, there is every appearance of Holden trying to repel its customers...

Some poor Holden service technician had to get under the car and found (on the V8) it has two exhaust pipes......This is what might have been going through their heads...
'hmmmm...how do I get this wire upfront without going near that nasty, hot exhaust....'

I reckon it's a waste. As my mechanic commented when I was thinking about bonnet/headlamp protectors on to my VZ;
"It saves the bonnet from a sandblast/chips - but what about about the bumpers? You'll still need to paint the bumper to match the pristine bonnet anyhow. Headlamps are polycarbonate anyway, so the chances of a rock smashing one would be the same without the headlamp protectors."

The Calais V Sportwagon V8 stamp duty in WA is $3,964.35. That's 6.5% the highest in the nation. It works off RRP regardless of what you paid for the vehicle. It does however exclude all accessory costs.

I'd say the web site needs correcting. The rear vision camera is available on all Sportwagon models. There are two options-
1) Full colour screen on Calais, Calais-V and SS-V. (They have the centre screen that can be utilised)
2) Rear view mirror screen on all other models.

Salesman asked me that too.
I asked him the price of a headlight assembly, he said just over $400.
Now $60 for protectors, or $400 for the assembly.
I put them on the wife’s VY and one has a star now, that would have been a headlight if not for the covers.
I have them on the bonnet because I always have, but I agree on that front about the front bar needing painting, but not the headlight

FINALLY.....seen another wagon on the road, well at Beaurepaires. An SV6, silver sitting in the shed. Been told that there is a blue SS and and another atomic wagon in town too but not seen them yet.
Almost got into a fight last night when a drunk idiot decided to use my rear wheel as a urinal. Told him only dogs pee on cars (not exact words used ). :flipoff:
Hmm looks like owning a new car may get me into trouble. Perhaps I can rig up a device to deliver an electric shock when someone else decides to relieve themselves on my car??? Any ideas? LOL
Anyone had any recent experience re availability of the reversing camera on the V8 wagons? At my dealer yesterday, it was clearly shown as available on the MY08 manual SS-V.
Rick
The MY09 Wagon picture is becoming a bit clearer:
* The reversing camera is available on V8 models. The dealer software and the downloadable brochure on the Holden site confirm it
* The AFM (DOD) is not only available only on autos, but the auto V8 now drops to 260kW/517Nm. My guess is that this is due to tuning for economy rather than the AFM as such, similar to how the base V6 also drops in power and torque (173kW/325 Nm) to improve economy, with no AFM
* Ignition colour is now available on the wagon. Looks a lot like the old (VT) Tiger mica colour…
* Wagons are a no-no for sunroofs due to their additional roof stiffening beams, similar to the original V2 Monaro. Whether there is a slimline model that fits I don’t know.
Can’t see much else different. Some of these features are on the MY08 cars as well, and it becomes unclear just what is different on the MY09 other than the compliance plate.
PS, I expect to get a life one day…

So what about the aftermarketr sunroofs, like these? (http://eastcoastsunroofs.com/index.php?page=product-1)
I think about $2500 fitted at your home. So would the wagon (and I assume the MY09 chassis is pretty much the same as MY08) would be negatively affected by installing one?

Good question. The sunroof issue is across all VE Wagons, it is not specific to MY09 by the way.
I can only judge by the Monaro, where after-market installers cut through the beam, and maybe fitted a strenthening hoop in its place ie around the sunroof, and welded to the cut beam - or maybe did not. In fact there is an old SC issue showing how it is done, cut beam and all.
My question today is, what will your insurer say when they see the sunroof down the track.
Whether there is a slimline sunroof that fits between beams, only Prestige or similar would know.

Hey crew. I've been following this forum for a few months while I waited for my Calais Sportwagon to be delivered (which happened 3 weeks ago), but this is my first post.
I have to ask, where are all the pics??!! There was qute a few good pic posts back in the mix, but none for a while. I was hoping to get some ideas for wheels but no inspiration has been found on here lately. I love my new ride but the 17's just look a little too small. So I implore you, post pics of your sweet sportwagon, whether stock standard or pimped out ride.
I've now got some wheels on order from wheelsmart.com.au (Zenti Transformer 20" chromies w/ black inserts) which should look tidy on the Phantom Calais. I also recently had the chrome strips added along both sides for extra bling effect. I'll get my post count up to allow me to post pics of it when I finally get the wheels on in a week or so.
BTW, has anyone dealt with Wheelsmart at Brookvale? Their website and ad in Street Commodores seemed fairly professional, as was their customer service over email which convinced me to go with them as an online purchase despite originaly wanting to deal with a local wheel shop for piece of mind if any problems etc. I'm not familiar with the Zenti brand (they appear to be the only distributors around) but the 'Why Us' and warranty info was comprehensive enough for me.
What else have Sportwagon owners been doing to improve the look of their Sportwagon? I'm keen to know if I can get any more chrome on their. For instance are the chrome door handle surrounds as found on up-spec models like Statesman etc available as an add on to the existing door handles?

The chrome doesn't cover the whole handle as you'd normally see, just a surround at the base which I think is a nice touch. I don't know if it can be added as an after-sale option tho.
Mind you I'd probably get the whole handle chromed if I could, I do love the chrome on black effect!

I mostly leave it in drive, but have used it, it changes down to first exiting corners and is fun.

The big fuss Holden previously made about wagons only being $1000 more than the sedans is no longer true -as they are offering the sedan for $29 990 drive away. The gap has grown to $5000.
Note if you are looking at this good deal: it only has the old 4 speed and the lower powered v6 motor.
I recently got my sv6 sportwagon delivered. I love the 5 speed auto!
Dave, if you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for your SV6 wagon?

Got quoted $37,300 for a new SS Sportwagon in manual today.
That enough for me to want to go down and get one for the other half. Mines a company car (hence V6) but we are toying with the idea of getting a SS for her as she does bugger all km's and it would be more fun on the weekends than the V6:)

Mine was $41,000 drive away including tow pack, full size spare, metallic paint, floor mats. Seems expensive now that I see the SS for that price!

This may tempt you a little further, there is/was a red SS Sportwagon (auto/cloth) at the dealer in Brighton on Saturday for $39,990 driveaway :p

Indeed, but I think I'd want manual, the SV6 is auto and thats fine for the driving I do, but if we get a fun car, it need to be manual and black :) (Two matching black wagons in the drive way would be awesome!!)

$41500 drive away for me, metallic paint, LSD , Rear mount DVD, leather, window tint, floor mats and wheel well tub ( it was a saving of over $10000). I considered the V8 but as my other car is a Typhoon, I drive that if I want a bit of Power.

Cheers,
Rick
My Sunroof was the first fitted in Victoria.
I had to go in for a check-up and they were fitting another one, so I got a look inside.
They fit a full frame into the roof brace, the roof is stronger than standard, and is fully covered by my insurance.
And it is a lot better than the old Hollandia I have on my VT Calais., Also the rain sensor is great, two drops of water on the windscreen and shuts.
I did post some pics back in this thread when I got the car.
The only drawback is you cannot put the steel cargo barrier in the forward position.
Excellent thanks RABSP.
Where was the sunroof fitted please, and if not Hollandia, what make is it?
Thanks,
Rick

Now that you ask, I've realised that I've not put it into active select from standstill. I've always done it while I'm on the move -and the gear it goes into depends on the speed I'm at.
It seems to work OK, but obviously works to protect the engine rather than give you full immediate control of the gearbox if you do something silly.
I've been pleasantly surprised how well when it auto it holds gears when heading down hill.

On my V8 it shows S? ( Sport Shift )where the ? is the gear it is in at the time you swap over, not until you select a gear does it change to an M?, again where the ? is the gear you select.
If the revs drop to just above idle, about 900 rpm, it will shift down, but apart from that it stays where I put it.
It has never shifted up on me, but I have not pushed over 4000.

I haven't noticed the S changing to M but I will look for it next time I throw the shifter to the left. I still have issues when I first engage the Active Select at a standstill and take off, but I might try shifting down to get M1 showing before I accelerate.
BTW I've had my new wheels on for a week and am very happy with them. :eyes: I'll post some pics soon. Would still like to see others post more pics!

I think it may be one of those types that is only visible when turned on. When not in use it looks like a standard mirror finish in the monitor section. So if you want to just have the mirror only, you just hit the off button on the mirror.

We have had them in all the MB 316 ambulances in Victoria for a few years now and they work really well. The mirrors are where you should be looking if your are reversing not the centre consol. Personally I reckon its a better place. The new model ambulances moved it to a small screen above the dash (for a few reasons)and it is in a worse place when reversing. Its going to be moved again.

Probably in the market in the next 4 months for a SSV sportswagon. Can't let go of the ute just yet. Just a pity they didn't do more with the rear tail lights on the wagon like the SS sedan & ute?
Do they look any different once the lights are on? Also do you think they will be bringing out a series 2 wagon at the same time as the sedan? If not I thought it might be a bit strange having a series 2 front sedan with series 1 wagons.
Cheers.

I am interested in getting one of the reversing cameras retro-fitted to our Calais Sportwagon, but the vision would be in the centre console screen. Initially I would have said I'd prefer that (larger image), but your comment makes sense and has me in 2 minds about it now. Would be good to try before we buy.
On a side note we put our personalised plates on tonight, now colour matched silver on black with a slimline plate for the front so no more fugly maroon on white large plate hanging over the recess and distracting your eye from the tasty lower grille.

Assuming it is the reversing camera that is being discussed, I wouldn't be too sure.
For SS-V Wagon at least, the dealer software for placing orders shows the camera as a $500 option, ie feeding to the LCD screen in the dash.
In a choice between the web-site and the Holden software, I'd choose the latter.
I was going to put it to the test by ordering, but the current deals on existing MY09 stock were too tempting. Next year, I will be visiting Prestige to see what they can do in terms of retrofitting the camera and maybe satnav.

Going back a few posts to the Active Select discussion, I checked and you can immediately throw it in to M1 by shifting across to Sports shift and bumping the selector up or down to engage Manual shift when stationary. This overcame the concern I had of Active Select shifting out of 1st gear before I wanted it to, but that was before I knew it had 2 modes (S and M!!).

Re the reversing camera, the downloadable brochure on the web-site shows it as an option, specifying display on the multi-colour screen, for SS-V, Calais and Calais V. The brochure would receive considerably more checking inside Holden than the web-site does (because they then commit to an expensive print-run).

Will post pics soon.
We spent a couple of hours crusin around tonight - averaged 17 l/100km according to the trip; luckily petrol is cheap at the moment.
Just a few observations:
1) cannot lower car as it clears in-laws driveway by about 15 mm
2) speed is very deceptive
Now have to figure out how to remove the grill. I have removed the two bolts and two plastic 'fixers' but cannot put the bottom part of the grill away from the bumper - any ideas?

If you want the same quality ride ( or better ) in your wagon that you have now get some Koni FSD shocks and Eibach Springs.

I keep thinking Ford Territory for some reason

I like the SSV 19s too, but they're not chrome, and they're not what I replaced. I must admit the down low angle of the photos gives a different perspective, but from normal standing height the deep dish and the chrome against the phantom black look sweet to me. the chrome side strips accent them well too, not to mention the chrome bars and badges on front and back. every time I walk up to the car I am happy in pants and I've only had compliments from those who've seen it in person.

If you want the same quality ride ( or better ) in your wagon that you have now get some Koni FSD shocks and Eibach Springs.
I put them on mine and you would never know it is lowered when driving.
It is not silly low but much different to the Standard FE2 height.
Mike
Mike that sounds like exactly what I need, a minor adjustment with no loss in ride quality. price would be the main issue, do you mind telling me the damage to your wallet including installation? have you done any other mods? you must love life every time you park your backside in your Calais V with the full leather and memory 8 way adjustable seats.... I still can't remember why I was a tightass on the V!

I park next to a Territory at work and it ain't quite in that category, but no low rider either i know. Like I said the down low photos give it that appearance but standing next to is a different perspective. And who said I'm happy with it? I freaken love my chromies and my ride!
you moved to qld bought a calais and then put the wheels on :)

Just a quick query. Ive had my wagon for just over 4 months. Its done nearly 10000km. Love it, but...im a little concerned with the build quality. Is anyone else having problems with bits falling off or coming apart in their wagon? So far one of the side cushions in the rear seat has come off (under the seatbelt), the cover for the battery compartment has lost a clip, a hook for the luggage tiedown has come off and gone missing.
Also..anyone having a little difficulty engaging reverse gear? Has anyone had to replace a tyre yet? If so, how much did they pay for the tyre. I had to replace a 3 month old tyre. It got spiked and could not be fixed. Got a Dunlop sportmaxx tyre for $500....ouch!
Must end on a positive note. 10000km in 4months. I still love the car and need to find an excuse not to drive it.

I haven't had any problems in the rear so far in 5 months and 7500km's Sean.
It's carried quite a few loads in that time with the back seats up and down quite regularly too, but then I do carry three queen size blankets in the back to pad things out and stop any rubbing and rattling, both of which I hate when driving.
The trans is another matter. Mine can sit for a few days in between trips and getting it out of park when cold can be a bit difficult. A rather large clunk follows when I do engage reverse too. It's much easier when it's warmed up though.

Thanks NewVLT.....yeah i agree with the gearbox. Its a littlle clunky when cold and finding reverse can be a bit of a problem. I too have had the seat up and down on many occasions to accomodate my fishing rods. i have the moulded protector in the back and that seems to help with the noise. Mind u i also have a rug to protect the protector and this also helps with the noise. Im off to the dealer tomorrow to pick up my battery cover (old one had clip broken) and see if i can find another luggage clip for the side. Mine has gone.
By the way...just for interest...ive had to replace one tyre already (got spiked) and the new one cost me $500 in Hedland. Its a dunlop sportsmaxx. not sure how much the potenzas will cost. Take it easy.
ps...finally seen wagons on the road. saw 3 on xmas day just driving to gosnells.

Picked up my new wagon just before Christmas; few little niggles which I'll have sorted out at first service:-
Plastic trim above drivers feet is loose,
"V" badge on tailgate not stuck properly,
Fuse box lid on passenger side doesn't sit right,
Phone doesn't always auto connect with bluetooth.
Mechanically though no problems thus far... but have now only done 705kms. Fuel consumption sitting on 13.4L have done 2 freeway runs (I have to go through 22 sets of traffic lights to get to work each day !!!)
Took a pic out the front of Holden's Perth Office this afternoon; I know it's no different to any other SSV wagon in Voodoo (yet... LOL)...

We picked up our SS Sportwagon mid-December and have covered about 1100kms so far. Like you all seems good so far.
In terms of fuel consumption - WOW !!! Our fuel consumption is sitting at mid-16s at the moment, maybe we have a heavy right foot ;)

Yep, my wife's previous car was a Mazda 6 MPS (2.3 litre, AWD turbo 4 cylinder) and the economy was high 13's - so you can guess the driving style.

Mine is an auto; but I probably drive like a Nana compared to when I was younger which no doubt contributes to the current 13.4L / 100km.
Though on saying that I did get my first speeding ticket in 4 years the very morning I picked the new car up !!! The old VZ didn't use to gain as much speed going down hills as what the VE does !!!!

My SS-V wagon arrived 2 weeks ago. Done 1000kms so far - avg fuel consumption 13.1L/100km so can't complain there.
So far debadged and going in for Midnight Express tint from SolAce/Tint-a-car tomorrow (18% rear windows, 35% front windows). Colour is Karma
Problems I have had so far:
* I've had it pop out of first gear a few times at traffic lights. Hasn't engaged properly. Gearbox overall is a terrible piece of work.
* When the aircon is set to below 20 degrees or so the fans seem to fluctuate .. you can audibly hear them slowing down and speeding up continually instead of staying at a constant speed until it has cooled the car.
* Glove box initially wouldn't unlock. Still won't ever use the key on it.. very flimsy and hit and miss whether its going to open or not.
* CD player loses my song display settings intermittently - I figure this is just a "feature". Goes from artist/title to FOLDER 001 - TRACK 003 etc.
* High frequency vibration through the car that starts at almost exactly 80km/h and through to about 100km/h. Makes my ears feel like they need to pop!
Anyone else experienced any of the above?
The Brock

Is the air con on a set fan speed or on auto ?? If on auto it will fluctuate of course; and if dual zone set at different temps that won't help either...
Had several VE hire cars; glove box is a real problem issue... don't put anything of value in a hire car VE glove box; good chance you won't see it again !!!
There is a thread here - Australian LS1 and Holden Forums (http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=110786) that mentions same vibration problem you are experiencing; I don't have the problem in my vehicle as such; but there's at least 2 of you with the same problem !!

ive done just over 10000kmin less than5 months. Done the drive from Port Hedland to Perth twice and mechanically, the car has been fantastic. Power on call when overtaking roadtrains, comfy and the cruise control makes life so much easier.
Fuel consumption has gone down since getting the car and running her in. Around town im getting anywhere between 12-14lt/100km. Taking into account a few spirited accelerations at the lights (all within speed limits). At present im getting about 12lt/100km driving around the streets of Byford-Perth. Lowest fuel figures I have ahd has been 9.40lt/100. Thats on the drive road back to Hedland, 110km/hr, cruise on, possibly a tail wind.
I agree on the glovebox. Very flimsy and you cant put too much in it, otherwise it wont close
Was at Brian Gardiner dealership today, getting stuff. Saw the HSV Clubsport version of the wagon in Atomic. Very nice. Visible differences are badging, front is different and has vents on the side panel, behind the front wheels. Breaks are bigger by the looks of things and there are 19" rims. Inside all leather, different instrument panel.
Well enough from me. Anyone got info regarding the tyres and prices for the Potenzas? Cheers.

I have suffered the gearbox problems and also the vibration. My gearbox is getting replace next month, but they just keep shrugging their shoulders as to how to fix the vibration. Feels like something is a tad out of balance in the driveline. See what happens after the gearbox replacement. Does your car crunch into reverse like mine?

Fuel consumption is primarily a function of your average speed.
In my 6-sp auto I get about 16.4 L/100Km around the inner city (ave. speed 33kmh, aircon on, with occasional lead footing).
In outer suburban running only, my ave speed is more like 40+ so fuel cons drops accordingly to 13-14.5 l/100km.
It is way better on fuel than my old Gen III (with inefficient 4-sp auto)
The extra gears also help make it a very quick car around town so I'm happy so far.

So quite a good result I thought for an auto; car now has 2,300kms on it.

Mechanically stock as a rock; no modifications at all.
I'll reset it again when I next drive it as it will be metro running again for a week; so will be interesting to see what it sits at now it has had a decent run.
I'm planning on getting the Walkinshaw "power pack"; intake, tune and rear exhaust; anyone got any feedback on this system and its merits ? I know there are better packages in terms of $ for HP gain; but I like the idea of it being a "factory" supported mod; and therefore no warranty issues to worry about.
I'm driving up to Mildura next week so I'll be able to give you an idea of the fuel consupmtion on the 3.6 190kw. Its the first big drive I've given it so I'm looking foward to it!

Well, over the New Year break I drove BNE-MLB, about 1,700 km each way:
On the way down, I followed the speed limit (110 km/hr by GPS, 113-114 by speedo) but passed when required without waiting (i.e. pass smartly and get back to my side of the road, slow down quickly) and averaged 11.2 l/100 km @ 101 kmhr for the 1700 km.
Coming back it was pass slowly and carefully in big open bits of road or on passing lanes, and was 10.0 l/100 km @ 98 kmhr average for the 1700 km.
Overall quite happy, and wondering how much better it could be. I guess the mod's most do affect the urban comsumption more than rural?
Just did the drive to Mildura from Melbourne.
On the way up, I was getting 7.9lt / 100km with the cruise set at 115km/h.
On the way to Mount Gambier from Mildura today I was getting 8.7lt per 100km with the cruise set at 120km/h and the aircon on (it was bloody hot!)
Very happy with those figures :)

Does anyone know where I can get a moulded trunk liner for my Sportwagon?
I ordered one with the car in Sept 08 -but they didnt have any in stock when the car was delivered. I checked my dealer again this month and he still didnt have any. They said something about the company that makes them going out of business.
Has anyone got a trunk liner from their dealer recently?
I rang Preston Motors in Melbourne (one of the largest remaining dealers) a week ago with the same question. They had no listing for it, and said it was still coming from Holden, ie they have never had them.

i know when i got my wagon last august, they still had them in stock. got my car from north city motors in perth. perhaps try clarks rubber. they boast being able to find/cut rubber for most applications. maybe they can custom cut/fit a rubber trunk liner for you. the original holden liners are nothing special to look at anyway. good luck.

Clark Rubber also sell a pre-cut wagon 'liner' - it's approx 1.4m x 1.0m; fits okay in the back of our Sportwagon with minimal trimming :)
So I know the production Calais/Calais V Sportwagons don't have the chrome window mouldings like their sedan brothers and sisters do and initially I understood it was due to Holden not being able to chrome mould the tailgate side window mouldings.
But how do you explain the pre-production release of the Sportwagon at the motorshow? I was going through some photos and found this.

About a month after my wagon arrived I got the usual Dealer Satisfaction Report from Holden. I had no problems with the dealer and thought it strange that there was nothing resembling a Product Satisfaction Report, so I gave them a written serve about a few issues.
Top of the list was the lack of chrome window surrounds to distinguish more upmarket wagons from fleet Omega's.
Holden Customer Service actually called me about ten days later and stated that the chrome was a production/quantity type decision. There just won't be enough Berlina and Calais wagons built to justify the extra expense. That and the fact that they chose to go with a one piece rear window surround which made it impossible to fit chrome strips. Basically a $ thing.
Sucks though, as it looks for all the world like an Omega from the belt line up. Not really good enough for the most expensive short wheelbase vehicle Holden have ever made (in my cars case anyway).

So everyone knows where the amp is in the Sedans and how to turn up the gain. But waht about the Sportwagons?

How cool is it for Holden that Ford driver James Courtney chooses to drive a HSV wagon for his personal transport.

It is in Friday's Herald Sun cars guide 6/02/09
James say's " I reckon it looks tough, and it's big enough to carry all my stuff but not like a boring old station wagon"
The article also states that he is allowed to drive what ever he wants since Ford pulled official support form DJR racing.
I would've loved to be a fly on the wall in the Ford offices when they found out.

i know when i got my wagon last august, they still had them in stock. got my car from north city motors in perth. perhaps try clarks rubber. they boast being able to find/cut rubber for most applications. maybe they can custom cut/fit a rubber trunk liner for you. the original holden liners are nothing special to look at anyway. good luck.
Mate,
I ordered a boot liner when I purchased my Sportwagon in early Oct 09. I just got a cheque from the dealer to refund the boot liner price, the sales rep confirmed the company making them has shut its doors.
I've got used to not having one and don't think I'll bother now. I have also come to love the tie down points in the back and don't want to loose them with a liner.

Yep. I'd say he might have copped a bit for his apparent endorsement of a rival product though, otherwise he probably wouldn't seen the need to issue a clarification (http://www.jamescourtney.com.au/media/news?id=130). Obviously someone at Ford/FPV/JBR reads LS1 ... :eyes:

You dont loose the tie down points.
There are spots where you just punch them through the hard plastic liner !!

I was lucky enough to get one in July last year with the new wagon.
There is provision in the boot liner to cut holes for the tie down points.
Snap ! :)

The tie down points are great with the wagon to stop your stuff in the rear hitting you in the head!
I also noticed that the V series wagon does not get the 11 speaker sound system the sedan gets.

I've noticed this wagon (http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/demo/details.aspx?YearFromShort=1651&R=6650181&trecs=3&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_Price_Decimal|1|| pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&__sid=11F5C06EEFE4&__Nne=15&__Qpb=true&Cr=0&seot=0&__N=1216%201247%201282%201252%201246%204294965857% 204294965745%20904%201622%201562%201651%20246&silo=1011) advertised on carsales for a while and it keeps dropping in price. $45 drive away seems very cheap for a new SSV wagon in Perth, wonder if there's a story there.

Could be tempted to have a look at a SSV wagon again. The best price i got last november was 46900 driveaway for a red manual.
Pity they listed the sedan features (11 speakers, subwoofer, rear spoiler, may be more).

hi, i bought a new ssv wagon in karma colour and its auto for 46k drive away, that was late last november, i dont think the silver one on carsales at 45k is really that cheap, its manual and i found silver to be the most common available colour, i had to wait for the karma colour and it looks hot, i was worried karma might be too sedate but with windows blacked out it looks the part, a silver manual is no big buy at 45k, you would think now its 2009 that it would be quite a bit less than what i paid for an auto which cost more of course, nothing wrong with silver just more common i found.

Clark Rubber also sell a pre-cut wagon 'liner' - it's approx 1.4m x 1.0m; fits okay in the back of our Sportwagon with minimal trimming :)
I've had 5 wagons now. I just buy a 2 x 1.4 (approx) piece of suitable liner from Clark Rubber. I cut one piece to fit with the back seat up and an extra piece to put in when I have the back seat down.
Cheers

Picked up a brand new Holden VE wagon mounled liner yesterday; Holden now have them again; retail fitted is $170; needless to say installation is not rocket science; and got mine for about $120.
You can cut out prefabricated "bits" to have luggage tie downs pop through; as well as allowance for cargo barrier; so they've put some thought into it.
Has the large Holden logo on it and fits very well; though I had a box on it yesterday and it slid around everywhere; so it's not grippy !!!
------------
On another note; has anyone experienced a "knock" from their rear suspension when going over a short sharp bump (say an expansion joint in bridge); I've had mine back a couple of times but they can't find anything; suspension is still stock.
Also, is the rear window dust deflector (which is an option from Holden - see here http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/action/modelaccessories?aid=21500&&modelid=100004&bitmask=1 ) is this the same as what is on the rear of the SSV wagon (you can sort of see it in the pic below)
Partially debadged the car yesterday; does anyone know if the rear tailgate Holden logo badge is stuck on; or does it have a couple of location holes ? Any help appreciated !! Thanks

EDIT: Any plans for side skirt and rear bar additions? Would look really nice with that black running the whole way round

side skirt and rear bar?
not on the drawing board at this stage for VE
but
if you keep your eyes open..there is a VZ SS sedan running around Melbourne with prototype side skirts :)
...in black to match the front spoiler extension (rear bar not needed as the sedan already has that big black bum)
btw..these are designed and made in Australia :goodjob:
