View Full Version : Roo Strike ...... Busted Radiator !!!!

I got back from QLD today just went up to Noosa Heads for a short holiday.
I had a nasty little accident on the way up near Singleton, on the Putty Rd I smacked a small roo at Kangaroo Waterholes of all places ... true. I was fortunate he fell over as I cleaned him up with the front of my new VE but it took quite a hit resulting in some damage. The number plate is screwed, as the front bar took a hit in the strong spot I was fortunate not to have it busted but the roo went through the plastic mesh hitting the condensor and pushing it into the radiator.
I decided to forget about it until I got back, now I think I need a new radiator as it has leaked about 2 litres of coolant a day since the accident last week. Tomorrow I will have a very good look and try and locate the exact source of the lost fluid as I couldn't see it before but will start taking things apart until I find it.
Does anyone know how much a new radiator for a VE SS A6 is and if so where is the best place in Sydney to get one. I suspect I will probably have to get one through Holden is this the case.
Cheers

Damn that's one way to ruin a holiday even if it was a short one.
Was the impact enough to set off any of the air bags??
Wouldn't it be easier and a lot cheaper on your own pocket to use insurance provided you have some that is.
You managed to get any Pic's of the damage to your front bar?
Upload them when you can.

I won't claim it through insurance as I have a hefty excess in exchange for a low premium. I have had 1 claim in the last 27 years so I save lots of $$ by opting for a larger excess .
Bags didn't go off luckily, I hit it dead centre on the number plate , the heavy aluminum bar behind took the hit mainly . The plastic front bar is unscathed I couldn't believe it . Mesh won't be worth much 30-50 bucks I reckon, only expensive thing is the radiator . Condensor is bent but not broken so it will go back in it's place.
There isn't much to look at except bent number plate as I have pulled the busted mesh out .
The car will fix up OK, I just hate the frigging around gettin stuff fixed I drive it every day and it will get more bumps and bruises over the next cpl yrs so I don't get to anal about them.
cheers

Just drop an egg into the radiator and it will block the hole up. Problem solved!!:D

I would just be taking it to a Radiator specialist. They should get you going in a day or so and it would be way cheaper than one from a dealer......John

Ouch! I think that spot is jinxed! I came around a bend near there after dark and nearly cleaned up a wombat that appeared to be at least a good 1.5m long at full stretch in his walk. Was right after i had the below chunk of alloy fitted in Orange that morning! Would've killed a brand new bullbar without question. Wombats are like brick walls - luckily you didn't come across that ol wombat friend of mine!!! Hopefully it's nothing too major for you. Good luck

That is one hell of a bullbar. I have seen smaller ones on roadtrains! I gather that you are not an optimist.
