Hi guys,
Just got back from Byron - if you haven't been I recommend it. The accomodation is expensive but everything else is reasonable ie food and entertainment etc. The beach is magnificent and the water warm.
I averaged 10.8 with roof racks and boogie boards/umbrellas and about 10 on the way back (better packing ;)
Anyway I got a flat on the way back in Kempsey and had to fit the "space saver" spare. This is the 18" mag painted yellow from the VYII Clubby fitted with a 215/45 R18" non-directional Pirelli Rosso Zero (standard is a 245/35 ZR 19" non-directional as far as I can tell). Now we all know we should drive at only 80kmh, which on a Saturday afternoon with no hope of a repair, would mean a 4~5 hour drive to Sydney.
I have 2 questions.
1) Why HSV, do you supply such crap options? I've been told that the full size won't fit! Crap - how come the wheel fits in the bay? I will try and buy a cheap 19" wheel to suit. Suffer the new VE HSV buyers with 2 wheel sizes! Incidentally it was the damn valve stem that failed - no puncture grrrrr!
2) What is the real speed these can be driven. I know the wheel size is different but the total diametre diff is only millimeters. Is this to save on massive compensation payouts? Why must I drive at 80klms per hour on a tyre that is supplied standard on Fazzas and Lambos?
I think its pretty poor to nickel and dime on such issues. When I bought a VTII SS with 18" Monaro wheels, I got a full size spare so why when you pay over $75,000 do you get a wheel unfit for a freaking Barina? :hmmm: It would cost what, an extra $50? Bastards!
