Hi all.

I need to put a stock cat back system on my VY II sedan to pass a noise test.
I went out and bought an second hand HSV cat back and had a quote of $50 for an exhaust place to fit it.

The exhaust place calls me to say it wouldn’t fit as the HSV mounting points or brackets are different. I thought it would be the same???
Looks like my HSV system is off a VT II and it has two cross connecting pipes.

Anyone know if the mounting brackets are available cheap?
Is the stock cat back system 2 inch and the HSV cat back system 2.25 inch?
Does anyone in Canberra have a stock one I could borrow/rent/buy?

Why don't you do the rounds of exhaust shops, they throw away heaps of stock exhausts. You should be able to get one easily I would have thought....

I remember when I put my catback zorst on my VY II SS my mate wanted a stock exhaust back on his car. I told him to ring the place where I got the catback done. The zorst shop rang me to see if it was my mate and they gave it to him...

JK

Yeah, you would think so.

They tell me they either use them on the 6cyl cars or throw them away as no one wants them :)

It's for this very reason I'm contemplating just keeping my stocky floating about, just to keep Mr EPA off my back.

the hsv systems are the same from VY onwards i believe (in terms of the same as holden twin systems, ie SS). That being twin 2.25' Im not sure about a HSV VT but if you say its a twin 2.25 from a VT then there ya go. I know the VT SS system was single not twin.

The HSV system will bolt-up directly onto the back of your cats. All of the Commodores use the same exhaust hangers. Which is why I could fit a D/F cat-back that came off a VX Berlina straight onto my car and the person who I sold my zorst to could bolt it straight up to the rear of his S/C V6.

The HSV system is twin 2.25".

Cheers,

Macca

You reckon this guy might of had it upside down or something???

I think I will book it in some where else then and see what they make of it.

Give sureflow a call in sydney they always are throwing out hsv and vy cat back.On your car only the VX to VY and i think VZ ls1 model hsv cat back will fit straight on.The Vt has larger mufflers and will not fit without modifications.VY ss is 2 inch to the mufflers and after mufflers is 1 7/8 i think the hsv is 2 1/4 all the way through.

Dus

I could be wrong but don't VY II onwards have cats that were mounted up against the firewall as opposed to previous models that were mounted under the car.
Wouldn't this alone cause problems using and older system? Unless you had your stock cats modified and moved.

Yeah, VY II have different cats but the system goes on to meet the cat back part at the same place.

Sure flow have stock ones available but want $ for them.
I will see if they might swap my HSV system for a stock one and I pay them to fit it and make my 3.5 inch medium sounding at the same time :)
