I think it's about 60 bucks from a dealer.

Or free if you know one ^_^

Holden Rockdale did mine for free, luck of the draw getting the right person behind the counter. Did it in the car park, only took him 30 seconds.

Ring a couple of dealers. Some are $20, some are $30. Depends on the dealer.

I noticed a key cutting place had the instructions sitting on their counter.
Check with the places that provide the fob and key blade.

They can't do my VYII key yet but said they will be able to do it in a few months.. Holden charged me $40.

If you are in the eastern suburbs, you can get it programmed for $20.

Any Mechanic that has the appropriate scan tool can do it, it's a quick process that takes a few seconds - and proberbly cheaper than a dealer will charge.

PS: Key and remote from Mr Minit cut and programed last time a i got one (early last year) was $90.

Hey Davo,
Could you let me know where I would go to get the $20 reprograming.
Do they sell the whole remote or do I need to obtain one first?
Would be greatly apreciated.

Try any mister minit ... I think they will supply you with a brand new keypad remote and programme it for $50.

My son has his VX key replaced yesterday from a "key stall" - only cost $70 which I thought was reasonable.

Gave him the new key (new head attached to the actual key itself) and a set of instructions to program the key when he got back to the car.

From memory...

Open the car manually (ie don't use the buttons)
Close door and lock using the door button (on the door not the key)
Turn car on and run for about 60 secs.
Stop car
remove key and open door using key remote.

Seems simple enough.

I wish it was as easy as that for a HSV.....:cussing:

Got 'quoted' $45 bucks just to cut a copy from a blank key that I already have from one of those mr minit type places - no coding, no supply of any parts - just a copy of my original key- pretty rich!!!

Any one else confirm that this is the case? It would make things so much nicer if it was this easy..

I had my key head replaced and a spare key cut just before easter.

I brought a new key blank and 3 button key head off ebay for about $20...from memory.

Got the key copied by a locksmith and was shocked at the cost of $35 to cut it.

Had the local holden dealer program it, all he did was plug into the car under the steering wheel, insert the new key, unplugged then locked and unlocked the car to test it, stung me for $13 to do the programing....

minit shops maximum price should be $34.95 for the key blank copy at any location. can charge less, not more.

that is the process after the key has the code copied to it, not a unprogrammed head

Yes, it is that simple, they give you written instructions to follow.
Minit bloke told me they have quite a few failures, not the keys though,
dip shits that don't follow the instructions and then come back
all upset because it didn't work. Both my keys are now mr minit
keys, one is about 12 months old and the other 6 months old,
both problem free. Main reason I gave them a go was Kerry
Holden Darwin trying to tell me that they had to have the car
to code a new key, don't they realise bullshitting to people just
turns them away.

bought 2 new keys today for my car which were $52 each and it takes 15mins to programme i'd say it would cost around 20-40 bucks

What is the price going through your local Holden dealer for suppling, cutting and coding a new key, or don't they have the facilities to cut the actual key.
Are they all that much dearer than say Mr Minit?

holden dealers do need the car. they cannot copy an existing keys current code, they have to setup between pcm and key with tech 2. minit have machines that copy the key your using now so have two key with the same code

So they dont need the car to programme?

No, but they do need your existing key.
Tks vt2vx, so I guess Mr Minit has better technology
than Holden then :werd:

OK....so if you have a new unprogrammed keyhead, is there a way of doing it yourself for a VX HSV?
I got quote $120 from Mantello.....and thats to programme one key!! Sorry but to me that seems way too much...:soap:

Thats ridiculous for only programming. Go to another dealer.. Like I said a few months ago, Holden charged me $30 to program mine.

Tell me about it....i've even got my own key on their.
When he told me the price i just stared at him blankly, then i didn't realise i said....WTF?, laughed and put the key on the bench and said, so just for this little thing here you wanna charge me $120 to programme it? thats all you have to do....bastard had the nerve to reply, yes sir thats correct.
Can anyone suggest where to try? considering people are saying HSV's are different....which i dont see why it should be.

We have priority key and ESS, but it doesn't make a difference for Holden when programming from what I could see when they did mine. The priority key issue might only be apparent when using places like mr minit as the key is cloned, for our keys you have to have the ESS and obviously there has to be something different between the keys as priority key wont work if the keys are identical.. that's my guess anyway.

Hi all,

Have just gotten a new key for both a VS and VX from OMEGA Locksmiths in Footscray.

They charge $95 to supply, cut and program a complete key and remote - 2 or 3 button.

They can cut a new key and program a new remote even if you have lost your key and remote or if your battery has gone flat - as long as you have the key code from Holden - they dont need the car to program remote either :)

Cheers!

Thought you guys in this thread might know best about this.
I want to get a complete spare key for our 2000 JSII Vectra (2 button). Mr Minit said they couldn't do it (could for older Vectras) and said go to Holden.

Any other options in Adelaide? Or a definite cheap dealer? Thanks.
