Gday;I want to convert my EF Falcon to manual, and since I do alot of freeway driving, the moonshot ratio's of the Commodore t56 make sense. I also want to put a 393 Cleveland in it at one stage so I need a sturdy gearbox. I also understand a RIP shifter would alleviate the notorious shift quality issues . Enough rambling. Basically,I dont want to pay $8k for a new gearbox, so where do I find second hand ones? how much are they? and are second hand ones bad? I have been unable to get answers anywhere else so any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

For the money you will probly spend on the conversions, wouldn't you be better off changing cars. Could work out heeps cheaper...
Still miss my EF though itraded in

save the hassel and go for an auto with low diff gears for your highway driving, I imagine there be a fair few options for a big clevo

I know a guy that converted his Auto EL GT to a T56. Conversion went fairly smoothly electronics were the hardest bit to get around from memory. The EECV in the falcons with the auto tune had some issues from memory. Why are you going Cleveland anyway and what would you use for injection? Its a truck motor after all. You'd be better off with a 5.6 strocker and that would slot in much easier. Brake booster I think would get in the way with a Cleveland. Or better yet. Come over to the Dark side and get an LSX GM product. I did, twice now and I like it over here in the dark.

It would probably be cheaper and less hassell to sell your car and by a manual.

Thinking of doing the conversion myself to avoid worries about blown autos with the turbos now in. Would certainly not be cheaper to sell mine and get an M6. Plus I am crying daily for a manual!

Vulture have a look around, there are a few people around wanting to do the swap and vice versa ... so find an M6 owner that wants an A4 and do a deal.
A guy in melb here wanted to do it where each party paid about $1000 in labour to have the boxes swapped and that was it ...

Yeah that was real good and I wanted to do it but who knows what ever happen to the guy doing it. I now remember he bought his wife/girl-friend a new car and kept his ss with the manual in for himself, smart bugger he was I wanted the manual and was thinking of driving there to do it. Ahh well I am still waiting for the someone wanting a auto but it is really rare. And I know of two other forum members who are wanting the same as me, manual for a auto, so vulture would be the third maybe the 100th looking out (good-luck), who knows.

Seem to remember that Mal Wood was doing conversions for around $7000 drive in drive out. Covered everything including a re-con box as well as the interior parts of the console [leather boot etc]
Cheers

I gave them a call today and it would cost closer to $10K but that was with a brand new box and bigger clutch drive in drive out.
