Hi all, I'm new to site so sorry if I have placed this in the wrong place.

It would not let me post in the for sale fourm untill I have 10 posts to my name, so I thought I would plst it here and hope someone might be able to help out.

I have been trying to learn more about engine re-building. I have bought all the books, and now I'm hoping to find an old worn, V8 engine to have a play around on.

SO this brings me to the hunt for a cheap old V8 that I can pull down and have a play with and hopefully if it's good enough keep for one day to re-build. I'm hoping that I'd come across an old stock worn out V8. I dont mind what style as I would be really thankful for any old V8 that's cheap enough just to play around on. I was thinking an old 253, but I would be really happy for anything at all thats on offer.

I'm located around the south east QLD, so if you know of any or hear of any old engines that are ready for the dump or in an old rattler ready to be sent to the wreckers, please keep me in mind.

do a ring around to most wreckers you may be able to find one for very cheap, also trader/ebay etc etc.

don't know if haines make a manual (probably do) for a 253 but grab one of them, rebuilt one of my bmws motors with one of them.

if it's purely for the sake of building an engine for the fun of it, have a look for a 186 or a 202, you will find them much cheaper to buy, parts cheaper, more common, only 1 bank of cylinders, 1 head etc. If it has to be a V8, get a 350 but you will be spending a lot more on it.

If only you had asked earlier. I just took an old 202 down to the scrap metal merchants, and got $100 for it. I would have happily given it to you for nothing, as it was only taking up space in the shed. Go and have a search around the wreckers, or keep you eyes open for an old bomb, buy the car for the motor, then sell the rest to the scrap merchants.

Definitely look at a 350, much more available for it. There would have to be one or two lying around the wreckers...

would have given you my ls1 that i just had taken out as it did a bearing. Problem is my mechanic threw it in the dump as i left it at his shop too long.

More likely he sold it for scrap, would have to be about $80 - 100 of alloy there. metal prices these days are ridiculous.
