Well the price of fuel is slowly coming down and today i filled up for 115.9/lt for the BP Ultimate 98. Thats a huge saving considering last week I paid 127.9/lt. I was spewing a bit, coz it only took 47lt's but not bad.

Anyone seen it cheaper.

BTW regular was 105.9 and it was on Bay Rd near St Kilda.

Over here in Sydney I filled up last night for 116.0/lt for BP Ultimate and yes I was amazed considering I been paying 122.0/lt to 130.0/lt

Yes gasguz, you're absolutely correct.

Apart from some threatening words though, when is the ACCC ACTUALLY going to fulfill its mandated role and PROSECUTE these companies for price-fixing? This has been going on for years and years and now that it is plainly obvious (certainly in THIS circumstance) the companies were profiteering, why aren't the prosecutions coming?

Cheers and let's enjoy it whilst it - temporarily - lasts.

The ACCC can't do anything, except jump up and down making noises...

...which is not all bad, at least it's something.

Back in the long long ago, petrol was around 80c-90c/Litre and $25-$30 U.S a Barrel. Correct me if im wrong but when the price of oil went over $70 U.S/Barrel the peak price of petrol was only $1.45-$1.50/Ltr. I dont understand how it works but I think we have been getting ripped off all along! And NOW the ACCC is threating action if the petrol companies dont drop the price. Its all just a farking joke.

$1.079 Last night @ B.P in Heatherton/Stud rd

Hate to sound like a dumb ass, but i have been using octane tablets. They seem to work well. Is it really justifiable using high octane fuel when these fuel tabs do the same thing and are cheaper??

When oil was $US40 a barrel and our dollar was US60c we were paying about 90c litre....the oil companies kept telling us "for every $US1 a barrel the oil price fluctuates, that equates to 1c a litre at the pump"

Fair enough, but now that oil is $51 a barrel on those figures we should be paying about $1 a litre, but then add in OUR DOLLAR IS NEARLY 80C against the greenback we should be paying WELL UNDER $1 a litre.

Another major concern is the monopoly Coles and Woolworth/Safeway have. Remember their price 'war' before Xmas when they were freely offering shop a dockets for 8 or 10c a litre?? Notice then how the supposed discount cycle (Monday and Tuesday) petrol was still well above the 'discounted' price pre Xmas??

Oh, don't forget you are paying well over $3 a loaf of bread at Coles/Safeway, these shop a dockets are just a farce so they can jack the prices up of everything else at their stores...a win win situation for them.

OK, now I've let off some steam, over to you guys...!!!

Finally someone pointing the finger at oil companies as opposed to site operators. Some great comments there indeed!

Fuel is currently around the 106.9 mark here in Adelaide. Thursday it was around 107.9....wholesale price on thursday morning prior to rebate was around the 115.3c mark....

The discount cycle seems to have disappeared here its just staying low permanently - might go up for all of 12hrs on a wednesday if that.

Always a good topic of debate!

Question for you guys in the east or west - how many cents per litre more are you paying for Ultimate? Seems some places in SA charge 10c while others charge up to 13c more. Paid 16c/L more in Hamilton, Vic. the other month - that kinda sucked!

Hey carrots, I too have seen it from 10 to 16 cents different. I simply dont buy i from anyone that sells it above 10 cents extra.

I could not believe it this morning, when out cycling a BP Servo in Williamstown still selling unleaded for 127.7/ litre, imagine paying 1.37 or more for Ultimate 98. I nearly fell off the treadly. :bs:

I paid $1.47 yesterday. Can't wait to move back to W.A. But that's a small sacrifice for no demerit points.

I was reading on the paper normal unleade should be at a $1.00 before australia day so around $1.03 we will be seeing it at the petrol stations. So it looks like BP Ultimate will be around $1.13 this coming Monday-Tuesday and hopefully stay that way  .

Its good as the fuel price is dropping, as I'm about to purchase a LS1..

Just a quick question though, do you notice much in performance if you use BP Ultimate over reguluar 91 octane, if your GEN III is in stock form?

I had a Skyline, but with that it was tuned over in japan So I had to use BP 98 Octane, otherwise it would ping and you could notice the power drop alot.

It doesn't really matter on a stock LS1 though BP Ultimate is better to use, cleaner and does have a higher octane level which would help reduce pinging as some engines do ping and some dont on normal unleaded. When I first bought my VX a year and half ago I use normal unleaded at first then started using BP Ultimate all on a stock engine.

Now I have a tune and I will never use 91 octance as it will just ping its head off and lack in performance. Just use BP Ultimate its only $5 extra then normal unleaded so its not really that much more.

So, who is still to see the price drop in their area?
Price has stagnated here since New Year, and it certainly won't drop while the 'Yee Haa' festival is in full swing.
Vortex 98 @ $1.319 with BP 2c/lt dearer.
Guess oil companies aren't embarressed about their country prices.

I've noticed that Liberty are advertising their regular about 6 cents cheaper than anywhere else. I pretty much use Shell exclusively now. The 95 stuff not the V-Power.

In a stark contrast to Dane, my VX pings her guts out on regular 91... so I just don't bother. For the additional $5 a tank for 98, the saving (for me) is a false economy when I factor in the grief from the pinging and having no go at all...

I run my stockie VX SS on BP Ultimate, have had the car from new, it is very smooth in it's power delivery and idles very smootly, I mainly use it for it's supposedly so called cleaning effect of the fuel system etc. However a stock GenIII should run fine on 91 as that is what they are designed to run on.
The odd time I have been caught out in the country and had to use 91 it has run fine on it. So I don't know if I am wasting my money on the 98 or not.
However as I said the car does run exeptionally well. So maybe the Ultimate does have some effect.

Yeah Drewie, I dunno about these stock tunes to be honest. My Senator has always been run on 98. Prior to the cam and tune, when you gave it a bit of throttle under load it would be ping city, even on cool days.

I think for anyone a tune is a good thing and it will certainly never be bad to run even 95 in a stocker, but 98 will give a further margin.

Chers,

Macca
