Heard the other day that some HSV Dealers have decided not to continue to try to dispose of their remaining GTO stock at "giveaway" prices.
Some dealers I've heard, have simply taken their GTOs off the showroom floor, & placed them in an undercover storage area. Obviously, they still want to sell them, but apparently only for a realistic price, & are quite happy to go for the long haul to do this.
Don't know how true the aforementioned is, but noticed in the Age yesterday, that the only dealer advertised new GTO I saw was $69990 +ORC, dearer than the $63 & $64ks I've seen previously.
On the other hand, I saw an 8k '05 TURISMO (rare) VZ GTO with factory fitted AP 6 spot brakes, on the 'net, for $61k,-pretty good value, I thought.
Cheers, Pickles.

wasnt the 63-64k plus dealer delivery and on road costs, i bought mine in sept 06 and the best i could do was 69k drive away, and i only bought it then because i could only find 2 in vic that were yellow manuals, if i couldnt have a yellow manual then i didnt want one at all !

The Holden dealer down the road from me has about 10 GTO's sitting out in the weather round the back of the dealership. They've been out there for atleast a month and by the sounds of those prices i'd say they'll be there for a lot longer yet.

G'day Wayne. things have changed a bit sinse 9/06, but yes--best price I'd seen was $63999 + ORC, probably just a shade under what you paid--which IMO is excellent value for a brilliant car--if you want a Coupe that is!
Still a few of the "LE" version around as well-noticed that Barry Bourke had a Yellow/Black Stripes version when I was out there last week.
And while I think of it, have you fitted cam & heads yet?!
Cheers, Pickles.

Im betting that you could still walk into these dealers and buy a GTO at sub 70K driveaway. At the end of the day it doesnt matter where the things are parked at the dealership, they are all 06 models now and for that reason would seriously be affecting dealer floorplans big time.
Providing dealers are not forced to discount them below their cost, I see no reason why they would be interested in holding them back.
Still a great buy though (thats why I bought one) but I think those of us that wanted one have purchased and the others have moved on to VE.:driving:

im just doing a cam and edit on top of the usual bolt ons, ive got a new project in the wings (im sure you will just be as disgusted with the plans i have for this car as you were at modding the GTO) that ill need some cash for!
i was considering an LE but i liked the GTO better without the black stripes but it was the one at barry bourke that i looked at back then

As far as the Coupe4 goes, I saw one advertised last year for $65K OTR but a couple of weeks ago the same dealer was asking $72K +ORC claiming it was the 'last one in Australia'.

For a NEW Coupe 4?!!-That's super cheap-which dealer was that, & where is he located? I thought they were all sold.

This is good to hear, as the discounting is getting ridiculous. It doesn't affect me in any was as I don't have a GTO, but perhaps now they're finally realising the effects that these massive discounts have on current owners, and repeat customers...

Metro Holden in Adelaide, advertised 2 weeks ago. I wouldn't touch them with a 10-foot pole though.

In Syd there seems to be a few around for 65+ on roads. Personally I cant see them being worth that at this point. A model old and prob not as good a drive as the new R8, esp the auto ones.
I would love to buy one but at the end of the day value will be well below a E series R8 in 3 years time....

I disagree Trek. I reckon they are a good buy at $65k + orc. Sure, the driveline (read auto trans) and ride/handling is a step behind VE spec, but theyre not making anymore.. And dont forget the price you quote is not far beyond new CV8 prices before they were discontinued.
As for resale compared to the VE in 3 years time, well you only have to look at used GTO and CV8 values compared to similar spec sedans, and Id bet money the coupe will be worth the same or more. Look at the mid 30s - 40s that 03-04 CV8s are getting at the moment, and look at how much VY2 or VZ HSV you can pick up for similar money. The sedans are newer and higher-spec (will all the hSV goodies) and yet the coupe has held its value very well.
Yeah, Id love one in my garage too.... sting red please :driving:

Well that's what I reckon too. The fact is that it's the ONLY coupe with a 6 litre LS2 in it-same as VE. Despite what you may hear, the 4L65E auto is fine.
At around $13k less than a GTS, they're excellent value--and yes, whilst new GTOs are hard to sell, they represent excellent value, & their value, based on the current discounted price at least, is likely to hold up very well in the long term.
Cheers, Pickles.

history tells us that coupes GENERALLY hold their value better than the equivallent sedan
and i too think that HSV VE sedan values will plummet just like any other late model car, sure a coupe isnt for everyone, but for those of us that dont need four doors a coupe suits us fine, i agree the auto box behind an ls2 is very good, much better than the 4l60e, i owned a VZ maloo with one and i see a fair bit of time in a VZ senator both shift firm and positively, i wouldnt hesitate at buying another auto HSV VZ

Im a newbie on this forum
Cant wait to pick up my new yellow vz gto in auto this Saturday
Paid 70k driveaway - was extremely rapt to pick up a yellow at this $
This is my Sunday/Toy vehicle which I plan to keep for a long time.
I had the option for purchasing the new VE R8 but long term the resale will be much better on the GTO especially on low km car and simply its the last true Aussie muscle coupe. Clubbies will always be made.
I just sold my 6month old MPS 3 mazda as soon as I found out there were new GTO's on the market for sale still. I feel buying this car is better than winning tattslotto as this is the last opportunity to acquire a NEW classic.

GTO655, As I said in my otther post-Congratulations-$70k driveaway represents approximately a $12k discount on full retail, so you've done well. And yep, I reckon you've got the right colour.(Ours is yellow too!) At least you didn't have to wait 6 months for yours, as we did!

Sounds reminiscent of the demise of the GTHO falcons and how some were just kept by the dealers instead of selling them off / only to re-surface much later on in excellent condition and worth very good money.

Hi Mark
Apparently if this is the car, it was purchased for 45k from folks who won it on a lottery and was offered to me for 65k 3 weeks ago . I was offered this car from Booran but black wasnt the colour for me.

Has me thinking too - the used car prices are enough to make a pretty good argument to the other half!! The VY SS wagons also present a similar situation in regards to holding their value.
If I was to buy a new car I would be half tempted to look at a new GTO - but I am hearing too many good things about the VE setup dynamics wise.

I purchased my GTO from Barry Bourke of Berwick (Vic). They'll remember me -Yellow GTO with AP 6 spot brakes, & rear roof deflector!(reg KMHGTO).
They had a few GTOs, including a very nice yellow GTO LE (A4). Speak to Dean Pattison-he is the HSV Manager. As far as price is concerned, there's no fixed price these days as far as I can see,-just up to you to arrange the best deal you can. But Dean will certainly look after you-he is a nice guy.

If you log onto carsales.com you will find that there are still a few LE,s kicking around. I actually think if you are in the market for a new GTO, you would be crazy to take an "ordinary " GTO over a limited edition model. Fast forward a few years and those of us sitting on LE,s will surely have a more collectable car given that only 100 were built. Only problem is that all the black cars and all manuals are sold out.Just so glad to have my phantom and six speed sitting safely in the shed. Absolutely love that rare beast !!

Good to hear your gonna start driving her. Its not fair that you GTO LE owners out there deprive the rest of us the chance to see these beasts on the roads.
In the mean time I've managed to put 50k on the clock in the last 12 months on my collectable, last of, limited number coup. Do you think it'll be worth more if mine is the Z with the most kays on it??:p

You will always get hurt if you dump out of any luxury car in the first two years as this is the worst depreciation period, and I too have had a shocker of a record in keeping cars. I have purchased around 15 HSV,s since my first Walkinshaw but have made a promise to myself that my LE is here for the long haul. I ordered it in Phantom, M6, six spot AP,s and sunroof and it was the only LE to leave the factory with both the roof and six spots. So far the car has about 850 K,s on the clock and I dont care less if no one sees it. As long as I can wander out to the shed and peel back those covers and fire it up on the blocks Im happy. I stand by my prediction that it is a collectable car but I guess only time will tell. Like the old saying - you pay your money and you take your chances- Everyone knows that there are far better investments but I cant think of one that puts a smile on my dial like that.
Sure as hell wont see a Coles car park !!

hI Pulse 8. I admire you for being able to have the lock em up and throw away the key kind of attitude and stay strong to it, but after doing it with all my old brocks and a few other newbies i'm just over it.
I'd have my LE parked at my factory just sitting there and id think what a waste and as pickles would confirm..i was really starting to hate the car, then i would start talking about blowers, cams and different brakes and wheels to keep me enthused and everytime i took it for a spin i'd feel guilty because it was 1 of 25 and would think...i really shouldnt be doing this..then i just thought..F@#K IT...im going to use it as i didn't receive any interest whatsoever trying to sell it..and i'm really starting to enjoy it..as i drive it a few times a week and it does have great presence on the road.
We all like to think our cars are going to be worth a million bucks in years to come but unless your HSV105, i don't think its going to happen lol.. i think it has to be a certain type of car and coupes just aren't those....just my opinion ...i hope i get proven wrong!!!! Maybe i have just run out of puff trying to keep up with the big boys(HSV 105) who i admire very much and maybe i have gone off the topic a bit....uhm...where was i???? oh yeah...i do love the car and will continue to get good use out of it because i know when i go to trade it in on a GTSR or 6 series BM...im going to get jack for it!!! So to me..having it sitting round it's doing me no favours at all.

"Price Stabilisation"?-Well it may be happening. I see that Alan Mance has 7 GTOs in stock, & is advertising them at $74990 driveaway, which is a big increase from the advertised prices of a few months ago. I was negotiating with Alance Mance last week and they would not budge of $79900 for a GTO even though they've got heaps for sale , told them 70k driveaway and they told me thats it, 79k or nothing. In 1 week they've dropped to 74k after I told them I bought one for 70k driveaway new and yellow. I believe there is only one yellow GTO left at KEvin Dennis with 51kms on the clock but what put me off was the car has been sitting out in the yard uncovered since May 06.

Hard to believe that the same style/shape car is still available 5 years after mine came out.Dont understand you guys buying GTO's as collector type cars.....there's heaps of them out there, why wouldnt you get a GTS?If any coupe is going to stabilize in value its going to be the one's with the smallest build numbers ...........GTS and coupe4.
All great cars tho,HSV coupes....hard to really describe the joy of owning one.

Yeah, I've thought of that "sitting out in the yard uncovered sinse May '06"- a few hot days isn't going to do the leather much good, that's for sure--although I think Alan Mance keeps his under cover in a big warehouse.

Had an issue with the drivers leather seat. A large mark that wouldnt come out. Took the car back to the boys at Bay City HSV - I must say fantastic service. Rectified the problem immediately with a new seat. Highly recommend this dealership after being stuffed around by nearly all other Northern and Western suburbs HSV dealerships.
They have 2 GTO's left In ODYSSEY colour - one with 59km and the other 180km - See Jarrod. Built no/814 June06- must be one of the very last ones.
