I've been thinking of getting another car to spare the SS some of the daily grind since it is getting pretty highly modified. What would you guys recommend? I wanted something big as I put in a fair few Hwy Km, so no Suzuki swifts etc. The big cars' resale is in the toilet so I thought a cheap 2nd hand Executive Commodore or equivalent falcon would be the go. What could I get for around $10-12K? I'd really like a VY exec but I think these are still fetching more than my budget.
If you go back as far as a VR/VS, you can get a real bargin. I picked up the VR Exec A4 V6, I'm currently driving for $4,100 over a year ago. When you think about it, its one hell of a car for $4100!!!

Considering alot of the running gear carried over to the VT (which is heavier / slower).
I still like the shape aswell (that long low sought of look / which very old school now I know!)
I own a VS and have no reason not to like it. I also think the equiv EL falcon still look pretty good too.
As Ryzz said they can be bought very cheaply now that the VT/VX are creeping around the $8000-$10000 mark.

I've seen VT-VXs going for 5-10k in brisbane area, VYs for 10-14k. Should find one easy provided you not in a rush.
head out to eagle farm & pineapple st see how you go

You should be able to get a VZ Exec under warranty at auction for around$14,000 (ex Govt or company car). I just sold mine for $17,300 privately with 18" wheels, lowered, tint, etc. If the dealers are advertising them for $19,000 there has to be $5000 profit in it for them or they wouldnt bother.
If you get one of these it takes the guess work out of whether yoiu are buying a dud as they are still under new car warranty. Find one that looks cosmetically ok and any problems = straight to the delaer to fix it.
You should be able to find a VY for $12,000 if you look hard enough.

if its any guide, i got a measly $2k for my vr exec on tradein for my vx ss.
it had nearly 300k and needed a little bit of work but just the usual thing like tyres, brakes and power steering pump but ran pretty well until the day i dropped it off.
i had it for 120,000k's and it copped a fair floggin but never let me down

How about an AUIII on gas? A highly under rated car. The old 4.0 works well with gas.

.
VS running gear carried over to VT, The VS had the ecotec where the VR didnt, my mate got his VS wagon with 136,000km on it 18 months ago for $5000 and its a bloody brilliant car, sure its not as nice as my vt to drive but it does the job and has everything you need.
My cousin got a VS sedan with 193,000km on it about 12 months ago for $3,800 once again a bloody good car, no mechanical probs what so ever.
But saying that you can get a nice VTII - VX for round $9-10k
