View Full Version : Trouble renting VE in QLD

Im going on holidays in the near future in QLD, and thought it might be a good opportunity to try out a VE Omega or Calais. The only company that stocks commodores is Avis. I gave them a call to question whether they had VE's in their fleet, and said they are holding back getting them as a full size car, and they have a few VE calais (as a premium car), but are holding back on getting more of these has they are waiting for a 'recall' to finish and they have issues with the air conditioning??? Insted they are getting more 380 GT's to replace the Calais's.

Mixed with the other issues the VE has had, it has questioned me renting one, and possibly even buying one.

So I'll have to opt for a 380, Falcon, or Camry on my 2 week trip?? A tad dissapointed.:toetap:

A mate of mine up there went through the same process just recently and was told exactly the same thing. So he opted to take a VZ instead and cruised up the north coast in that instead of taking up the 380 option.

Going to Qld next weekend and wanted to get a VE, but Avis said they couldn't guarantee them at the moment.
Get a discount through Hertz anyway, so ended up with them. Falcon or similar - rang them to say I don't want no Falcon! So it should be a Toyota Aurion, Nissan Maxima or one other I can't remember - maybe 380.
Be good to drive something different for a week and compare to what I'm used to.

I would rather drive a falcon then a Toyota Aurion or a Nissian Maxima

I rang up hertz in Cairns airport and they said the full size cars are Falcon BA2 XT, XR6 or Fairmont. They didn't say anything about Aurion or Maxima or 380.

I wouldn't mind going an Aurion. What location are you renting from?

if you can see past the lion on the end of your nose and disregard the ford badging the falcon would be a good second option.

'un'fortunately we have them for our company cars and can't really speak bad about them apart from being a taxi. drove a BF upto gympie and back 5-6hr round trip, comfortable seating and ride.

Sounds like an excuse to me. They just want to get every last $$ out of the older fleet they have. Everyone would be wanting VE's instead so they tell them there's an issue with the car rather than change over their fleet prematurely. They would be going to the 380's because Mitsu is discounting the hell out of them .... it's all $$ pure and simple

Yeah, I've driven so many of them thru work - good cars - but I want to try something different.

Brisbane. Not sure if the chick on the phone was actually guaranteeing they'd have an alternative to the Falcon on the day though. Will see.

My VX Senator is getting a face lift at the panel shop and I have booked a commodore in Brisbane. I kind of expected it to be a VE. Looks like I am going to be very dissapointed. (AVIS) they didn't confirm the model when I booked unfortunately.

As I am picking it up tomorrow I will try to post back what it ends up being.

Yeah please post back on what you get and what it rides like. Also don't forget to look around in the car lot to see what other cars are available for rent. Can you see if they have any new shape camrys, VE's (and if an omega or Calais), and what model 380's.That would make my life a lot easier lol.

I hope you don't get an Avalon

Definately confirmed that it is a Commodore so I have no problem there.

I will be doing a lot of checking out of it over the 2x Weeks. I will be thinking like am the editor of car magazine and giving it the full going over. Will even get some pics and make some notes.

In general I could get anything I wanted as available though just depended on where in Brisbane I was prepared to go to pick it up, or pay the Airport fee if I wanted to collect it and drop it off there.

The A/C problem they mention is well known in dealer circles, and is being progressively fixed.

Yes it is, but it would not be affecting the new cars coming off the line. The issue has now been corrected and only affects car produced prior to the delear bulletin. Hire companies do not buy their stock from dealers so there wouldn't be any issue with them getting older stock from a yard.

No doubt the 380 would be cheap to fleet buy a large quantity, but with lead times, their original comment re the VE is most likely correct.
Time will tell if the next order is VE!

Rental companies would be holding off so they can get '07 plated cars.
