I am thinking of fitting an ESA cat back system to my VY 2 Clubby, I have heard heaps of different brand exhaust notes and find a lot to be a bit fluffy/farty at certain revs. I have heard 1 ESA that sounded fantastic, crisp and strong right the way through. I would be interested to hear anyone else's point of view. Last thing i want is to fork out the bucks to have a fart mobile.

Thanks
Brim.

I got one (2x2.5") and its horrible.
Its quite droney around the 1700rpm range. Although it sounds not too bad from inside the car most of the time I heard it from the outside one day and it sounded like a Lancer with a really bad exhaust!
I'm sure it sould be imporoved by removing the rear reso, but I reckon you're better off buying a proper brand. I wish I did!

Do you have headers installed?? As this alone makes a HUGE difference.

Ive had the ESA system on a VX Wagon and if an exhaust is prone to drone, then a wagon will drone like a mofo.

With D/F 4-1 it was fantastic with only the slightests drone at 95 when i had the stock 3.46 diff gears.

They are a pretty good system for the price. And there were quite a few Performance shops using them early on in the piece.

Cool thanks, maybe I'll get them to fit it, take it for a run bring a mate who can do the same so I can hear it from outside then make my decision.

Not yet. I am planning to do headers and high-clow Cats soon and see if it sounds any better. Can only comment on how it sounds with only the cat-back.

Great post Grant,

I still have an ESA on my SS and I would describe it as a loud exhaust. When I initially fitted it, it sounded great, but as the mods and power levels have increased... so has the noise. Drone is noticable also. :teach:

Currently running tri-ys, highflow CATS and ESA 2.5 with 222/224 CAM and I have heard people describe the sound as:

harsh
raspy
SHIT :cussing:
Woeful
Racecar like

I personally don't mind thte sound of it :yahoo: but it does create a whinning noise occassionally from under/near/on the front passengers seats ...

Which seems to coincide with my wife sitting there ... hmm. :serenade:

mickeyVX350, reading some threads from a couple of years ago I was under the impression that Surflo was pretty much the same as ESA, I'm hoping that my VY2 that comes with HSV's first real effort at 4 - 1 headers will make a difference. I think they are made by HM?

I really dont think you should bother. Its well documented in here that either the Sureflo or Difillipo systems are the way to go.

Has any one got a link to somone who has recorded a ESA system in use (like getting reved/Burnout etc.) Do they have a web site?
