View Full Version : Roller Rockers - Questions

Hello All

I have a question regarding roller rockers for the ls1 v8. Now, will the addition of a roller rocker upgrade have any benefit on a standard ls1 motor?

I have my eyes set on a set of the Yella Terra 1:8's for my Monaro. In my VT V6 Commodore, the addition of the 1:9 RR's made quite a difference (however the engine had accompanying bolt on mods to suit; catback, headers, OTR CAI etc).

Now, if i do the roller rocker upgrade to my Monaro, will it have any benefits at all or will it cause more grief then i need? Or is the RR application best done when accompanied by a camshaft upgrade? In theory a RR upgrade should be beneficial (increased lift=more air and fuel) however I've never been too mechanically minded.

Will be good to hear some responses and experiences.

Thanks

Hi and welcome search Yella Terra and you will find info on them.

From memory I think that the 1.8 stealths produced some valve float with stock springs. But don't take my word for it.

There is probably a lot more things to spend your money on for better results than rockers. Is your car tuned? diff gears, zorst ,headers.

It might pay to do the rockers when you do cam and new valve springs at the same time.

Yep, to be honest, (estimating that the 1.8 RRs will be around $1000 fitted??) you will gain more from a nice cat-back exhaust, 2-hole cold air intake mod and a mail order tune.

I'm not saying that YT RRs are no good - they are; but changing them wouldn't be the most common place to start with modding your car, nor would it be of the best benefit.

Cheers,

In that case may I sugest a tune up, this will be the best bang for buck mod you could do unless of course you want to mod it with some bolt ons first. The 1.8 rockers would be right down the bottom of my list.

On a stock car they are as much use as a MAF

They will give you a little more lift but without other mods to take advantage of it, its a waste of time. Unless your Uncletone, then its worth 30rwkw and compliments the MAF really well :stick:

i was after a stealth mod primarily thats why i dont want the car to stick out too much at the momment...what would be the benefit power wise approx if i did go ahead and do the RR upgrade?

IMO you cant get much more stealth than an edit.

Nothing is psychically changed or different in looks.

But you get a hell of a lot more go:driving:

Nothing without the tune, valve springs, exhaust.

Possibly reduced power due to valve float and a lighter wallet. If you want a Stealth mod that works get it tuned. I know saying your car has a tune and now it goes great.... which it will doesn't sound as good as saying to your mates I got a set of Yella Terra roller rockers . Truth would be though " I paid a shit load of bucks for em so they must be good ... I think maybe.

There has been thousands of members on this site and I have never yet heard anyone say or post they got a set of rockers as their only mod and WOW what a difference. I have however seen quite a few sets for sale in the classifieds sections over the years. Mods that don't work are a bummer to try and sell.

Get a tune up you won't be sorry.

I have the boltons done, 235rw.
I was quoted 2500 for rollers, springs etc to go from 1.7-1.8 and to expect 20+rwkw.

Also thought that all of these things were a waste until boltons and tune were done?

Does anyone know what it would cost to do the rollers, springs etc with a cam? and is it worth it, or if doing all that is it nearly as expensive as head and cam?

I had Comp pushrods, Comp cam, Comp valve springs, Yella Terra RR 1.7's, OTR CAI and a dyno tuned for approx $4000.
