Hey all,

A mate got dicked by one of those fixed cameras on a downhill doing 86 in a 60 zone. He has lost his license for 1 month. He has an excellent driving history.

I have heard from a few people that they sometimes will allow some sort of day license during the suspension only to drive to and from work. Is this true? Can anyone provide info?

Any help much appreciated.

Is your mate on P's or full licence? And I thought it was 30km over that you lost your licence in vic not 25? Anyway my mates sister did in fact get booked for going 31 over the speed limit, and lost her licence. She did however take it to court appealing that it was essential for her to have a car to get to work. She actually won, but had to pay a hefty fine instead. Although this was better than losing her job.

Cheers

its been 25kmph in victoria for a few years now.

0-10kph is the one point zone
11-25 is the 3 point zone

Im not sure. Ive never heard of this ‘Day licence’ thing, so can’t comment on that. But I know for a fact she went to court and was reissued her licence in exchange for a bit of cash. But it’s a court ruling, not a procedure, so its different for each case. And didn’t know vic had dipped to 25kmph, thought that was nsw… bugger!

NSW is over 30 license suspended for 3 months, over 40 suspended for 6 months.

Yeah I dont think there is any day license thing. I think its just a go to court and see what the judge will do.

Be warned though. She has boobs. And she is attractive... and she is very smart. But of course those things don't influence a judges opinion :p

QLD only issues work permits to drink drivers (don't get me started). can't speak for any other states, ring the transport mob and ask the question.

86 in a 60 from a fixed camera, didn't she know the area?

My experience is that if you lose your licence due to the demerit point system then you are not eligible to obtain a work/restricted licence. However, if you have a court imposed licence suspension then you may apply for a work/restricted licence. DUI/Manslaughter offenders will be most pleased.

What you should do is not pay the fine. Fill out the back of the fine saying that you will contest it in court.

Then go to court, plead guilty and ask for a non-conviction. But you have to give them a very good exuse why you should still have your license.

Hopefully, the magistrate will just give you a fine of some sorts.

I believe exemptions for work is a thing of the past. If you go to court, you will have it recorded that you went to court and it will become a "prior" wether you are convicted or not. If you are convicted, it may be worse on your record than just paying the fine. Eg Have you been convicted of any driving charges? Also when you have a prior, if you are ever in court again, you will be screwed. If you just have had infringment notices, it wont be used against you as strongly. Pay the fine.

Fixed camera on a downhill?? I didn't think they were allowed to put them in such places (or am I just being naive?). All the fixed cameras i know of are on flat roads. Care to mention the location?

Ive seen quite afew fixed cameras on downhill runs. In my area, Nth Balwyn, I know of 3 of them - corner of Doncaster and Greythorn Rd, Union Rd and Mont Albert Rd, and Burke Rd and Belmore Rd.
They are both Speed/Red light cameras, and they are on VERY downhill runs. Maybe the rule about 'downhill' runs only applied to camera cars? Anyway, why would you believe what Bracks says about speed cameras?
In regards to only having a licence for work, don’t bother. I tried the same thing 4 years ago - pleaded guilty for doing 41 over the limit, clean driving record, busted on freeway at 1.30am, no cars around….judge told me that 'hoons like me were a menace to society, and if a licence cancellation means for the loss of your job/income, then so be it'. What pissed me off with this judge was that the case before me, a 26 year old girl with her lawyer, had pleaded guilty to a charge of going through a red light, t-boning another car, sending the other passenger to hospital - her excuse? The lights further up were green, and she mistaken them for the lights at the intersection she was about to enter. And also, been a sales rep, off course she needed her licence. She got off not losing her licence, and only paid a small fine.

Thats just plain not right :cussing:

Dont get me started on this no tolerance on speeding bullsh%t. That is a perfect example, you can be an absolute tool and drive thru a red light and driving at 40km/h over the limit on a freeway in the early morning is worse. Someone please explain that to me. All this just breeds mindless driving to a certain speed.

We need someone from europe to run the transport division over here :)

Spoke to a guy from england who got pulled over on the ring road in his hire car doing 160km/h. His excuse was we are allowed to do 60% above the speed limit if the conditions warrant it and he just assumed it was the same here. Cop reckoned it was 4hrs work to fine him so he couldnt be bothered.

They are all dodgy pr!cks.
I saw a speed camera operator on Foote Street near Thomsons road just over the top of the hill so as you woould assume sometimes as you go up the hill you accelerate a little and as most of the time you go over the limit a little.

Best of all the following time I saw him there he was finishing up for the day and was putting the fire hydrant metal casing over the water pipe.
The a/hole takes the cover off the hydrant given that you cant park within a certain distance of one, parks his car there and then when it is time to go home he puts it back in its place. I was so close to stopping but had traffic behind me. Now everytime I see a speed camera on the side of the road I sound my horn just as i get next to the car which scares the hell outof them and keep it going all the way down the street.:cussing:

I like that

Or you could do the trick of taking the speed camera operators plates off and putting them on your car and flying past him hahahahahaha

The other thing I have alays been tempted to do is to stop the car and park it infront of the camera and just wait to see what happens
