well went and had a look at a VXSS tonight for the missus, and has 18's/catback/sunroof/dvd-tv 106000k's RED built Jan 2001. trying to sell as a series 2, but is it? wants $18000 reg runs out 2/2/07 it's straght but paint looks pinkish on boot and front bar looks a slightly different colour. it's been polished but the paint looks flat, would this be from not being polished very often, as in the boot holden badge it is very chalky looking! plus he SS badges on the doors have the chrome pealing off.

so what i'm asking is how can i tell the difference between S1 & S2

all help would be kindly appreciated thanks Garry

Tenth number of the VIN number before the 'L'
1 = Series 1
2 = Series 2
3 = Series 1 VY etc

I think Jan 2001 is still series I. My VTII SS was built in Aug 2000 pretty close to last off the line.
To really check, you would have to look under the car at the rear suspension to see if it had the toe links.
If it is Jan 2002, then it could be a series II.

thanks ssgirl2, thats my thoughts aswell. i thought holden changed/updated most models at around that time.

positive i saw Jan 2001, i look at it three times.
hint on what the extra link looks like, or should i just look at the SV8 and see if it's the same.....

thanks all Garry

I bought my VX SS Series 1 new in Sept. '01, from memory it is a July '01 build
and the Series 2 had only been out for a few weeks, as there was both series on the showroom floor, I bought mine as a run-out. So if it is a Jan '01 build definetely a series 1. Apart from the extra link in the rear suspension which is supposed to help rear tyre wear (which I have none of on my series 1) and a different indicator stalk, series 1 has a square type stalk, series 2 a roundish one, and an alarm in the series 2 there is bugger all difference, trim colours slightly different as well. Later series 2 around April '02 build got coated pistons to help with some noise issues that some had, but it really didn't acheive much. The pistons were revised again in June '03.
Hope some of this helps but sounds like a series 1.

Pleasure :)

On the paint issue. Red can be difficult to look after if not garaged regularly. It could be fading from the sun or it may have been re-sprayed and now fading.

If you're still keen on the car, get a bit of polish on a rag and test the area's your concerned about. If the rag shows pink/red, you can be pretty certain it's received a re-spray.

RARA,

To confirm your suspicions of seriesI it should have the IAT sensor in the top of the airbox whereas VX SeriesII IAT had been moved to the Intake pipe.

Square wiper/Blinker stalks is ususally the first give away for seriesI VX but IAT in the airbox usually confirms it.

Cheers :wave:

isnt the series 2 trim for a red car with a darker, blacker interior. The series 1, like mine, is a bit of a dull grey.

Mine is a series 1, plated January 2001, purchased by Melbourne Police January 28th 2001.

I think you've received all the answer's you need for you ?. But. 18k seems a lot for a s1 vx. fella I know sold his October last year and best he could get was 17k private sale!! (vx2, hyper, manual, 90k, leather, immac)
With the doubts you have, I'd keep looking. if you find any interstate I'm sure someone from this site would be happy to check it out for you.
good luck
Nick

well i have the money (finance approved) for $19000.
so looking for RED or WHITE VX SS S1 or S2 prefer S2, AUTO.
so anyone from here got one:serenade:

the one we were looking at was more sus as the time went by, been for sale for atleast 3 months, dropped price from $19000 - $18000 just recently, advertised as S2(i asked did he mean S1, reply was no a S2) on the net it had reg till 7/07 runs out 2/2/07(tomorrow) he stated at first time looking at car that he had had an offer for $18500 from a yard:werd: why not take that as was more than was being advertised for, plus wanted an answer by tonight, as yard would take car tomorrow(friday)
so i rang and said sorry but no money until 3 weeks, see what the outcome is:p

thanks all, sorry for the long post
Garry

Series 2 have a foolproof badging system that very few know about. The easiest to spot is on the rear of the car. If you look very carefully there will be a badge saying ( SERIES II ). This system was implemented as a very high level security labeling system, that would take untrustworthy people a very long and hard process to rectify on any series 1 car. It's not as if you can just go into your local holden dealer and just buy them over the counter!

Ahhhh. Geez I need to get a life. I only posted this stupid entry because I already read the bit where you'd worked out it was a S1.

yes thanks Dug, that was the give away and the reason why i asked if it was a S1, as it didn't have the badge, but then i thought maybe been smacked up the bum

I have a Series 2 White VX SS Commodore for sale.

Build Date: 21/08/02
Rego: 30/06/2007
Kms: 120,000ks
Great Condition with maybe one or two marks here and there

Colour: Heron White
Transmission: Automatic has been fully serviced along with a few bands being replaced and LSD was serviced around the same time, 23/08/06/ and the car had only done 110,057ks.

Interior: Black cloth
Wheels: 18" Rims, two rims do have gutter rashes on them that you can only tell if you were looking. One rim has a few marks on the spokes that is a bit noticable.
Brakes: Slotted front rotors with stock back rotors (front right rotor will need to be machined), average brakes from Repco

Windows: Black tints
Exhaust: Redback exhaust, standard extractors and cats
Tune: Maf mail order tune from Chipmasters Performance
Suspension: Standard FE2 suspension at the front, superlow king springs at the back with standard shocks, rides good.
CAI: Monaro cold air induction

Notes: The engine is a little noisey, I have done a 2 hour flush with Mainlube flushing oil and now using the fuel and oil additives to maintain cleaness and I can get 400ks out of a full tank of petrol suburban driving. Car was an ex cop car and I am the 3rd owner and im asking for $18,000. :driving:. I can also take it to Sonny or to some workshop of your choice to look over the car for you if you wish, I was planning to do it some time soon anyway.

I am in Syndey also.

Dane.
