Just wondering if there's any way of checking an engine number to find out what car it came out of? I would like to know the build date and whether it was a sedan/wagon, exec, acclaim, calais etc etc..
Is there anyone here who can do it? Someone who works at Holden perhaps?

The old Holden Partfinder system used to let you check engine numbers. The new softwere (Microcat) does not.

Sometimes progress is not always for the better.

A holden service dept may be able to help.

Oh well, bummer hey? I'll try the Holden dealer but I won't hold my breath.

It's a second hand ecotec V6 a mate bought for his VS, the wrecker says it's a VX engine, but I just wanted to make sure.
The engine number starts with VAxxxxxx, all of the VS's and VT's I've checked start with VHxxxxxx. Does this mean it is indeed out of a VX?

Prefix VA was used on VX and VY.

VH was very common on VS & VTs because we used to say the new Commodores have VH engines in them :p
