Hi guys im after some opinions.
At the moment im thinking of upgradeing the VY SV8 to either a VE Berlina V8 or an VE SS in auto.my problem is i dont really like the SS interior would prefer an SSV but cant stretch the buget that far and the berlina isnt too bad on the inside and is sort of a sleeper and can be had a bit cheaper than the SS.
Has anybody else had this sort of decision to make?
Anybody here bought a VE Berlina V8 and what are your thoughts on them?

thanks in advance subtle.

Yeah. with buying my car i was going for the SS. But for an extra $15 a week on loan repayments i said "bugger it" and went the SS-V. Just too good to pass up.

Just be aware that the berlina won't come with sports suspension or limited slip diff unless you option them.

I prefer they style of the berlina dash to that of the ss however i can't stand the fake wood strip so it kinda balances out in the end.

Personaly i prefer the sleeper look and things like dual climate control etc.

Which ever car you choose you will love it. :driving: :)

Go the Berlina.

Save up for lowered sports suspension and a nice set of wheels. (will make you enjoy your car all over again when you fit them)

I am not too keen on the bodykit on the VE.

What is it that you don't like about the SS interior compared to the SS V? You could always option up the SS with leather and it would be almost the same as the SS V interior minus the alloy pedals etc.

go for the Berlina, many more features and its more of a sleeper, and isn't a bad looker if u choose the right colour. Add the optional FE2

Until then I didn't even know the belina had the V8 option.

I reckon if you must have an auto anyway go the Berlina. There are too many bloody auto SS's in second hand yards as it is.

I reckon go the SS over the berlina but the SS V does sound tempting

You can swap out the wood grain strip in the Berlina. I have seen one with chrome like the Calais V (Stopped each side of the centre console rather than going right through like the Calais one). And it looked much better. Probably only available from Holden parts but a cheap swap to really improve that interior.

if i had to pick between the two i would pick the SS but like Piffs i will be going the SSV hopefully coz its only a small amount extra in repayments

An SSV costs about the same as a V8 calais :)

Don't forget about resale values. Most second hand buyers will generally be younger people who cannot afford to buy brand new. In my opinion, they will want an SS. Good luck and enjoy you car when you get it.

I actually dont mind the Berlina interior with the wood strip, and i also like the grill. mmmm Berlina 6.0 ,black ,FE2 and some nice aftermarket 19's would be very hot .:deal:
Cheaper insurance too.

But don't the non SS V8's (berlina, exec and calais V8's), often receive a lower insurance premium? Surely this would offset the difference of resale?

thanks for the reply's guys.
after reading the brochures on both i think i might wait a little while and save some more cash and get the calais v8.

the reason i wanted auto was cos im getting sick of changing gears myself(old and lazy) and the new auto seems pretty good.

SSV interior is nicer than the SS but still prefer calais/berlina interior not sure why just maybe a touch of class.

i do prefer the sleeper look which is why i have an SV8 at the moment and i think a calais will give me better resale later on.

thanks again for your help.

If you are worried about resale don't buy new!
I looked at Calais and SSV. Ordered SSV because as posted before there will be a lot more 20 somethings who can't afford new but wouldn't be seen dead in a calais. You have to think ahead a bit because in say 3 years the new VF etc will be out there. As for pricing i'm pretty sure Calais V and SS V are almost the same in price. And also drove new auto and M6, auto is still an auto and manual just sounds sooooo much better thru the gears!!!!!

amen to that.... my current lease is up in December so I will be looking for either a demo or very low kay VE Berlina 6.0 in black or evoke (if possible) which i can lower, throw some nice 19 or 20's on, put a sunroof into and have a play with the engine.... a real sleeper. Plan on debadging and gettin rid of the faux wood strip inside too. would look nice with a grille similar to SLY-VE's got and maybe the chrome strip on the lower doors a-la Calais V.

I saw a 6.0l berlina demo on line at Wakelings last week for 38 sumtin drive away.

I have just purchased a VE V8 Berlina, ex Demo for 37,700 on road (including Holden rebate of 3k). They look classy, especially in Evoke which is the colour i was lucky enough to get. The SS is bare bones...basically a tarted up Omega and every man and his dog has one.

I will be lowering it by around 45mm using Pedders Sportsryder firm springs. This isnt much diff to FE2 as the shockers are near on impossible to differentiate Im told.

Id rather customise a Berlina than have the SS plus it IS a real sleeper. Hope to get the Calais rear tail lamps and SS upper grille which looks the goods.

Might post some pics when i pick it up in the next week but i will be saving up for the wheels later.

I just ordered a VE Berlina V8 07 model with LSD and Sport susp package as well as tow bar, mud spats and bonnet protector. Traded in 01 V8 exec auto wagon. $31000 drive away changeover. CANT WAIT! Test drove SS and BERLINA preferred ride of BERLINA over SS and I'm a family man that still likes to go from 0 to 100 in under 7
