A warning to owners of utes fitted with hard lid and wing...
Was pulling out of the car park at Sandown last Sunday when the hard lid suddenly flew open. Winds were reportedly around 90kph that day, and the wind must have blown under the wing and lifted it up (it was unlocked at the time). No damage done, but was expecting the struts to be damaged by the force.

isnt the wing supposed to add downforce? Glad no damage was done.

Yes normally they do add downforce when driving over about 90kmp/h I think?

When you aren't moving they tend to act as an umbrella in a storm :)

mine has done that a few times before, and i have a thunder without a wing, haha

just the little "lip" on the back of the hard cover was enough to lift it, now i always keep it locked ahaha

a wing won't do much until you are doing well over 120kp\h, cosmetic item for road cars.

have had mine flip up while sitting on the tailgate, wind pocket i guess. lesson learnt keep a side locked.

I've heard of people at track/skid pan days spinning out and having the hard cover fly open and snap as they are going backwards - just normal hard covers without the wing.

Mines always locked these days.

Have seen a certain SA supercharged ute at Mallala spin of on the back straight and the lid open (as he was going backwards towards a tyre/earth wall). Provided him with a very nice airbrake.
