hey guys,
im getting my uncle's olympic edition VT soon, and i think its got the 3.8L ecotec like every other commodore. is there much i can do to the motor? for better performance?
and also, the speakers at the back, are they 6inchers or 6 x 9? and if they aren't, will 6x9's be an easy install?
thanks heaps

Are you specifically referring to only the motor? If so, roller rockers seem to be a popular option for the Ecotecs. Some kind of cold air induction would also be beneficial. I suppose it all comes down to how much you want to spend.

you can get the ecotechs to move, provided you want to spend the money. before you do any engine work I'd suggest trying to source a 5-spd gearbox, best thing to happen to the ecotech
for dollar value your best bet would be to source the super6 motor or look for a 5L v8, both will go in on original engine mounts. If the budget (or age restraints are no obstacle) look for an LS1, value for money for performane and modifications.
the super 6 motor is worth getting to start off with if you want F/I, they were designed for F/I with better internals etc. for info goto www.forcedinductiontechnologies.com.au. also with the super 6 you will need the gearbox and loom as the ecotech gear is not interchangeable.
you will easily get 6x9s into the rear parcel shelf

not around here it ain't :yahoo:
not a bad choice as long as its not one of those ones with the huge holden decals
6x9's are a possibility in the parcel shelf and will sound quite good. MrMaad is a good contact for stereo opinions.
dont bother with any power adders, just wasted money on a six

yeah.. thats what everyone's saying to me.. dont bother with the motor, just do the exterior up..
my uncles one is a VT (silver) but no haha it dosent have those gay decals all over it. nor a spoiler. which is good.
btw, whats the deal with the commodores rear suspension, it gets fat camber with a heavy load

Mate iv got a VT olympic i wouldnt bother doing anything to it, Just drive it till your off your P's all the time saving so you can get a V8, They are a nice car but not worth trying to get peformance out of.
Youve been given a blessing from your uncle in that you dont have to buy your 1st car like i did, so drive it standard and save for a car you actually want ie: SS or HSV. If your going to spend money on a car you dont really love i think your just pissing your money away. Youll find that youl never be happy with it and so you will keep spending money on it getting no where.
Wait till you can get a V8

mines an auto and to be homest it bores the absolut sh*t out of me to drive. My alfetta is funner to drive.
I find myself asking the missus if she would like to drive the VT when we are both in the car as its so boring. Get a manual.
The VT is still a great car that has everything i need, i just wish it was a manual V8 - but who could blame me
