View Full Version : Pacemaker tri-ys and difillipo 2.5" feedback please

I have found moderate amounts of shit in regards to systems, headers blah blah blah ...
I am after some fairly specific feedback from anyone who is or has been running the following exhaust configuration:
Pacemaker 15/8 tri-ys
Highflow CATS
DiFillipo dual 2.5" CATBACK.
222/224 or similar CAM
My current ESA system is now ridiculously loud with arseloads of drone since fitting the CAM and highflo CATS (yes all the mufflers and resi are still in place)
Thus, thoughts have turned to possibly fitting a DiFillipo in the hope of retaining a deep note whilst loosing the :cussing: drone.
Anyone with a this or a similar setup that can give some feedback re: sound and so forth it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Dave ...
PS Before anyone starts ... yes i know sureflo could make something to suit my needs and their stuff is good BUT THIS IS NOT THE WAY I WANT TO GO.
:woohoo: a resounding response ...
Edit:
After some confusion in regards to the current configuration of the zorst on my shitbox, it is currently as follows:
Pacemaker tri-ys
Magnaflow CATS 2.5"
ESA dual 2.5" CATBACK
When combined with a 222/224 CAM = shit-tins of drone ... :cussing:
Hence my question as per previous post. Research on this forum and elsewhere indicates the Sureflo and DiFillipo would be the way to go in regards to maintaining a decent note but reducing/eliminating drone. Based on what I have read and info I have gathered from professionals, DiFillipo would seem to be the likely choice to suit my needs.
So ... :p does anyone else have a setup even remotely similar to:
tri-ys
highflow CATS
Di-Fillipo or any other drone free system
222/224 CAM
??????

Sorry I can't help Dave, but I feel your pain - since my cam the Redback system with the same headers is way too loud for me. I'd be concerned that the DF system would still be too loud for my taste.

I can only imagine how loud a redback would be with a cam onboard,
mine was too loud prior to the cam. I gave it the flick and fitted
the sureflo 3.5 in medium in readiness for the cam. Very happy with
the volume and note now. I know you stated that sureflo is out Dave,
but if you want a small sound file to give you an idea of how loud it is give
us a hoy and I will email it to you
Cheers

*Liverpool* exhuasts make one of the quietest drone free 2.5 twin systems I’ve yet come across…..only problem I forsee…..it may be too quiet.
Quality of workmanship not too bad either imho

TD - I know you said not Sureflo, but I have Pacie Tri-ys, opened HSV cats and Sureflo "quiet" 2x2.5 system. No drone and nice and quiet but with a deep rumble. I'm happy as a pig...

I've also spoken to Greg regarding a "super quiet" system for my car.
My primary concern with going quiet was that I not sacrifice power for the pleasure, and he's assured me the system will flow at least as well as the one currently on the car.
Sorry for the semi hijack Dave, but hopefully it will give you some more options at least to consider.

You just summarised my main concern perfectly Will ... POWER LOSS IS NOT AN OPTION :teach:
Purchasing a replacement system at a cost of $600-$800 only to find out that it is essentially no better and has potentially robbed power is NOT something I can afford or am prepared to do. Hence the dilemma I suppose :headbang:
STUPID OLD AGE AND SENSIBLENESS !!!!!
Some may say I'm trying to have the cake and eat it too ... oh well. Thanks to one and all for the feedback, tis moi moi good :yahoo:
Keep it coming
PS After some wise council from a learned fellow ... I am also beginning to consider just changing rear resi to larger unit as a cost effective means of solving the problem ... thoughts?

That was also the advice I was given... :)

Dave, here's my 2 bobs worth, dont know if it will be any help but here goes.......as you know my cam is a Sonny custom so exact specs are unknown to me, however I have pacie tri-Ys opened cats and a loud sureflo 3.5" system. Sound is tuff and deep at idle and under load its angry and gets angrier as rpm increases. In addition, the combo made power too, 274 at the rears. However, the fact it is a "loud" system leads to some drone under 2000 rpm when cruising on the highway. I don't do much highway driving so it doesn't bother me and I don't want to quieten it down at this stage, however if you really want to minimise drone or piss it off all together, this is not the system for you. I note Rod's system is "medium", this one would probably suffer from little if any drone at all....Rod over to you...
Hope this is of some help or interest!
Good luck with it mate

I wasn't going to say anything because you said you didn't want Sureflo, but everyone else is saying Sureflo so here I go. :)
I had almost the same setup as you in my last car. Pacey 1 5/8 Tri-y, 222/224 cam, opened stock cats, and sureflo custom dual 2 1/2 inch "quiet" exhaust. Before the cam went in, the exhaust was quieter than other cars I'd heard with off the shelf Redback, ESA, Di Filippo etc exhausts. It certainly wasn't quiet after the cam went in, but I don't think it was too loud though and it had no drone whatsoever. It also made good power - 267rwkw on Sonny's dyno.

Spot on mate, no drone whatoever. Yours must be bloody loud
with the 3.5 loud system, do you have a sound file you could
email to me?

Mine droned (but its an auto) , i think the best way to get good sound and no drone is a single 3" or bigger.
Someone suggested the other day that a balance pipe pre-cats makes a big difference. Has anyone else heard of or tried that?

I've got Pacy tri-y's, opened cats and DiFillipo dual 2.5" CATBACK with a 224/224 cam and it has bugger all drone, never enough to annoy me, definately one of the quieter systems getting around.

No worries mate, let me know if you have any success, wouldn't
mind hearing it. I got the mrs to do a couple of vids with mine,
one idling and one taking off, they turned out ok, but like you say
don't really do it justice. That was just done with a decent digital
camera.

Its p*ssing me off actually coz I know theres a few people on here that are interested to hear what it sounds like. Hopefully I can get something together that sounds half way decent!!

hey man i have a vy ss ute std exh sys at the moment and i'm trying to pick an exhaust to fit just a cat back at this stage but full sys in the future could you send me that sound file of the 3 1/2 sureflow? i've mainly only heard good reports about them but a couple have said it's not a good choice.

PM me your email address and I will pop that sound file over to you.
Bear in mind that mine has a cam in it therefore has a little more
rumble and shake than when it was unopened ;)
Interested in who the couple were, and why they say it is not a
good choice?

I have pacy tri y, opened cats and a redback with no resonator and after sonnys cam it has become quite loud (not much drone just loud). I was looking into a different system but then I thought to myself "you're a car nut, you love loud angry cars and this is just one of the compromises I have to make". Yeah it can get a bit much doing the shopping and long trips but on those special crisp morning when your giving it a bootful its all worth it.
Good luck in finding the magic combination Dave. Last time I heard your car I thought it sounded quite nice so I guess its become louder since then. Either that or you're getting old lol!!!

The current setup was good Ben, until I put the highflow CATS on, the note and overall sound changed to being a bit too loud.
Feedback from the posts in this thread is encouraging and thanks. You're point about being too old is noted and could be on track
PS Here's some smilies for everyone ... apparently it's what I do best here at LS1 :D
:p ;) :yahoo: :werd: :) :woohoo:  :bravo:

Hey Tiger, dont play the game with the knockers mate!
Get out there and run all your mods at the track 'back to back' and post your results..... :)
Thats generally the only way out of a keyboard standoff here......
So off you go! :teach:

cheers Tuna, will do. <---
Please re-check the thread in 6 months for an update.
I'm not sure how the difference in sound from the 2 combos will be able to posted ... it won't come with a timeslip or dyno sheet for pissing rights.
I'll have to get creative and see what I can come up with to validate the back to back sound differences. Maybe a crayon decibel meter graph might do the trick?
Cheers :D
