Ok, I just want to make sure before I do anything, but when I brake doing over 60km/h, my steering wheel shudders a lot. It's mainly the steering wheel but sometimes can feel it through the whole car.
My thought is that I have warped discs.
Also, although my car is lowered and I realise the ride will be rough, but sometimes going over bumps its feels like my shocks or springs are rooted. Suggestions?
Cheers

I think you have warped discs as well.
As for the suspension i think it's either: Hitting the bump stops or you are sick of the lowered suspension.

I had terrible shudder early on with the car. The dealer put the wrong pads on at first change. Ring HSV Melbourne...they know all about the problem and they will advise the correct pads. Since then...no shudder at all,,,,,but...dusty as hell. Id prefer dust to shudder.

I think for the suspension the 20 something dollar check at pedders is gold for cheap fault finding. I dont know how mechanical you are but if you could get hold of a dial indicator, remove the wheels and check for warping on the disk. Im not sure how much runout is acceptable but im sure you could find out easy. Just my suggestions.

have you changed pads recently?i did on mine once & ended up with black resin patches over my disc's which caused it to shudder violently.just have a look at your disc's & see if there are any black spots.

Probably rotors causing the problem. Not sure if you have HSV premium or std HSV but if std they are PBR and fairly common for rotors to warp. I have already experienced this first hand couple of weeks ago, new rotors/pads fixed problem(still under warranty from PBR). Could try skimming the rotors first and see how you go. As for the suspension, judging by how low you are could be bump stops hitting or if you aren't running shortened shocks they could be running out of their optimum range causing again to hit bump stops. Could run poly air bags in the rear that'll stop you going to the bump stops.

hey mate,
the shudder when braking is to do with warped discs so get them skimmed.
if they are the premium cross drilled ones send me a pm and i will tell you of a place in east perth you can take them too...not many places will skim the cross drilled but these guys are gods when it comes to brakes.
with the suspension, PLEASE DONT take your car to Pedders for the $20 check...every commo that has been there they come back with a bill for $1500 saying steering rack stuffed and a list of other things...
seriously take it to just about any suspension joint and they will be better than pedders.
if you want a contact for WA Suspensions then pm me too and i can sort you out there.
when you lowered it if you didnt put shorter shocks then they are probably at the end of there life...so that could be it

cheers deano. the brakes are slotted but not drilled. I was told that they couldn't be skimmed if they were warped.
How much for new shocks?

speak to the guys at Marfleet Brakes in East Perth on 9328 8747...tell them what brakes you got and they will sort you out with a no bullsh*t advice....
they also have HSV discs that they take off HSVs for City Motors when customers upgrade to better brakes...they are practically brand new...dealer drives the car from city motors to them and they do the change...so might be cheaper to go that way
shocks...well i am not sure but a pair of KYB short shocks for the rear would only be a couple of hundred dollars for the pair or something....was long ago i lowered by first car....

Too true Pedders do go a bit bananas on the quote for repairs (they love the power steering pump) but like yourself I use WA Suspensions for my work. The Pedders check is handy for finding whether your shocks are stuffed on their machine not bad for $20. For things like bushes a suspension guy doing an inspection on a hoist is enough.

Took my VN in, $2300 quote and yeh, power steering pump, rack, all bushes, shocks and other assorted things like susp. tower tops.. Sold it coz I thought it was stuffed! Then again, the suspension probably was... not the power steering tho

From memory runout specificatio is about 0.05mm.
Have you considered the radius rod bushes. From factory these are a fluid filled bush which is prone to leaking. Noltect front/rear radius rod bushes can be had for about $180 and will remove a lot of the inherent shudder. I highly recommend this modification as from personal experience my car felt significantly sharper with the new bushes.
Cheers,
