Hi all,

I run a Monaro here in the UK and if possible I would like to get a set of Oz style number plates with my UK registration to put on the car. The trouble is, the laws in Oz seem quite strict and it appears to be hard to order plates.

I found one company, sh-boomm.com.au/novelty (apologies, can't post the link properly due to lack of posts) and they will do me a pair of plates for A$93 including postage to the UK. However, as they are only 'novelty' plates they will not print a state on the plates. Ideally I would like to include the state as well so that folks here in the UK realise that they are Oz plates.

Does anyone on here have any suggestions for other companies that could produce a pair of plates for sending to the UK. (I'm after standard Aussie size, one white and one yellow, with black text.)

Oh and one other question (I'm gonna regret this one) if I did manage to source some plates, what would be considered the coolest state to display??

Many thanks,

Neil

PPQ (www.ppq.com.au) is the website for queensland plates, have a look around, email them never hurts to ask. Beware though as for what 5c of sheetmetal & paint is worth you will be shocked on prices.

In QLD atm there are a range of euro style plates with the souther cross and qld in the blue and the letter number combo.

As for what state, where else but QLD!

Ahhh yes, then those Brits that have visited and driven in QLD will know to give this chap a wide berth and to be paranoid about his lane changes, they will 'understand' why he then keeps-middle on empty three lane motorway roads, when indeed he must be in the left:-)

Purchase Hella Part Number 2901 for your car, for use at breakdowns and crash scenes-to prevent secondary. A Euro/World standard hazard warning triangle!!

I dont know for sure about other states, but NSW Number plates are actually owned by the state government, and u "lease"them and display them on your vehicle. The only way i know of you getting some Aussie plates is if someone had theres *cough* stolen and sent over to you, although this would probably get held up at customs.

There are a few companies that make the Plastic/Perspex ones, and they can have the states printed on them too but they are not stamped and do not look "genuine"

Good luck with getting the plates u want ;)

Just buy a set off www.ebay.com.au www.uniquecarsales.com.au www.tradingpost.com.au

victorian ones anyway, because we as the individual actually own the plates.

But you wont be able to get your own numbers.

If that fails try;

www.vplates.com.au

Plus if you know someone here in vic, get them to put it under there license number here in vic, and then just send them over to you.

Cheers.

The cheapest plates in the Australia that you can get (as far as I know), are Victorian and Western Australian plates.

http://www.vplates.com.au is the site to purchase Victorian plates, but you need a Victorian drivers licence in order to do so (funny about that :p)

So your best best is a second hand number plate sale via eBay. :yup:

The boys are right. SA is the same as NSW, you lease them from the state government for a period (as long as you pay them really). But if you could get some plates SA would be the go, it's where they assemble the cars after all...it would be like their birth state.

Thanks for the replies guys. Perhaps I should clarify....I'm not looking to actually by the registration from the government (ppq.com.au want $2195 for the equivalent of my UK reg 'R8CKT' !!)...all I'm looking for is a friendly company that will make me a pair of 'show' plates with my reg on them.
As I say, sh-boomm.com.au can make me a pair of stamped plates with my UK reg, but will not put a state or any additional slogan on them.

Good point Satansfist, it makes sense to show SA.

Holden's head of operations is in Melbourne, so Victoria would also be logical. Plus you own them outright for $395 (£158.90)

I'm sure a Victorian member would be able to help you out with your purchase.
