Im not sure this thread will go in the right direction, or if its posted in the right area, or just a bad idea to post it, but i thought quite a few of us would have some ideas of things that could be improved on for the next VE/E series.
Let me start by saying, i love the car, holden engineers and the hole team have done a brilliant job, i could go on all day about the good things, its the greatest car i have ever owned, its the best value for car in my opinion, its brilliant, but like all things, theres always somthing else to refine :)
Suspension is a bit noisy in the car, seems the noise conducts through the chassis, maybe some bushes or somthing in the front need tweeking, but its quite loud... The ride quality is amazing though!
The front skips a little over bumps on cornering i.e. hard cornering on bad road sufaces with lots of pot holes needs some refinment (its in the front, back is rock solid).
Blue tooth needs more debugging, I use it all day and maybe once a day it will switch off randomly, dosnt recognise the phone after a few calls, switch off or hangs up mid conversation, locks up and yo uhave to turn the ignition off to get the stero to come back, it just says 'Voice in' on the display (Im using a N73, so some bugs would be related to my phone)
The display for MP3's needs to default to artist and song title, not folder and track number... mine reads Folder 1 Track 124 or what ever (i just want to know what the song is as soon as its on!)
The three displays on the dash, each one should be changable i.e. i want instant fuel on the left, average fuel on the right...
The thread on the spare wheel holder is stupidly long, its huge job to unsrew the thread (been like this for a few models, there is probably a reason for it, but still annoying as anything)
There is a net in the boot, but only connects to the boot lid side, on the VY you could put it over everything and clip it to the front
There is no indication if the interior light is on door mode or not, you just have to press it open close the door etc to work it out... minor thing...
The plastic clips that hold the plastics together (around the gear stick/window controls, peddles) are not design/manufactured correctly, to soft and brittle.. They are so weak that one broke when i was pulling the windows up
I still want the side mirrors setup so the water drains out while washing the car, i spend 2 hours detailing, then go for a drive an hour later, when i hit about 40km/h the water comes out of the side mirrors all down the side of the car
Glove box, it really dosnt like to close with anything heavy or larger in it. It appears that the holes that it clips into just need to come down a few mm
PS, if you thinking of buying one of these, JUST DO IT!
Cheers,
Carl

Good post CarlFST60L.
I agree on all but the Bluetooth, as mine is working well.
The skipping of the suspension on small bumps does indeed make one a little nervous at times, though I'm told it can be dialled out with better progressive springs. If so, they should have been on the car to start with.
All the dash lights, including the centre screen, should dim with the one control.
Great Cars !!!

There a number of issues I have with my car.
1. My biggest complaint is the engine/mechanical noise ( high performance v6 engine) that can be heard in the cabin while pottering around city streets. Once you get going on the freeway it is much better. I have upgraded from a VT Berlina which has travelled 255,000 kms (and still going strong) and it is much quieter. In fact you have to listen carefully to hear the engine.
2. The Bluetooth system does not have phone book download. I would have thought that with the top of the line model this would be a must. I don't know whether this will be an option with the Sat-Nav as I am still waiting to have this installed since I took delivery of the car in November.
3. Holden does not have a option for an integrated charging cradle for mobile phones. To charge your phone you need to plug your charger into the socket in the centre compartment and then squash the cable in the lid so that you can have the phone where visible. As simple device in the recess on the opposite side to the handbrake recess could have been designed to suit a variety of mobile phones.
3. A better choice of lining material could have been made for the front door pockets as I have permanently damaged mine with my shoes while trying to get out of the car in tight car spaces.
4. The thick A pillars impair your vision when cornering. I alway find myself switching between the windscreen side and the side window to get a complete view when cornering or turning into a side street.
Apart from the above the car is a great piece of machinery. I think that if the items above are inproved/provided it would make a great car even better.

100% on those two mate (i just came to post those two exact things, and:
The windows wippers need to default stop in the DOWN postion (i.e. ignition off can leave them in the middle), also on the topic of window wippers, the window wippers should recess down lower below the bonnet so you cant see them (i.e. Lexus do this very well, you actually cant really see them at all)
The auto down is great, but what about auto up on drivers power windows?
I just spent some time in a brand new a Camry (hire car), drove a couple of other well down cars (New Volvo and Passat), and i will say this, getting back in the VE really makes me notice just how good these cars really are

When you have to fit everything from a Space Saver to a Full size 20 inch rim in the spare wheel well the thread needs to be that long.:teach:

While thats true, the bigger the wheel the less thread should be left in the nut when tight. I have removed my spare (19" Rim) and the thread was very long, would hate to remove it with a space saver. I guess I could cut it so it only had an inch of engagement.

Thats my point BadMac, should it take longer to undo the spare 19" wheel than do a lap of Wakefeild park :limpy:
Another one to add to the list, a comment made by a fellow lexus/BMW driver:
The keybarrel should be located so you dont have to lean right forward to insert the key ;)

Yes the front end needs work.I have done 7000 kms in my ve gts and find the front hard on the road.I had a block of wood in my left hand side i found 1 week from delivery rubber boot was damaged.Sent car back to dealer had car 2 days when i left dealer steering wheel was pulling left and shaking sent car back to dealer on monday picked up car dealer said can do wheel aliment bolt on front end needs replacing. Was told dont have bolt in stock due to ajax strike??? .Have been waiting 3 weeks still dont have car fixed no bolts ARE THEY STILL MAKING THE VE GTS???.As for front end noise was told hsv is working to fix this and my car will be done at 15000 kms service. The car i test drove had no noise in front end i think they had upgrade the suspension.
Bluetooth i dont use found it no good.
Car smells of fumes told dealer to fix not done
Jack dose not fit under car it hits side skirt there road side will be called when you get a flat.

The aim of this thread to talk about improvments to the car, this holden themselves can do to improve the final product, not improvments to poor service or pre delievery issues such as yours

I had my R8 just over two weeks and I find the blue tooth is bad and everyone says it echoes, even a holden salesman told me it was a problem in all models.
The 12 volt plug should be somewhere in the front dash or at least to the side of the centre console as I use a portable navigation system and you cant maximise the centre console space with a plug and cord running through the centre of it and then between you and the shifter especially when driving a manual.
I also found the cup holders in the centre console get in the way when in use, the VZ Calais I had before had two that folded out of the front dash which was alot better.
The VZ also had a the ability to switch the trip computer to a digital speedo which I used a fair bit but so far can't find it in this model.
Other than those little things I love the car and wouldn't trade it for anything! :yahoo:

Turning the volum right down, seems to have fixed mine...
Also, adding a CAI and Tune has fixed the power up from 230kwrw to 270kwrw (Thanks to Sonny) :yahoo:

It has to be enabled through the customize option menu if i remember correctly. I heard of this feature when we got our SS but it wasnt there so i read the manual (i know, real men dont read manuals :p ) and saw it was in there.

Heres some from me.
Why does the clock display 05:00pm. I thought convention was 0x is AM no 0 is PM. Also why can't it display 24h time, I know some people have got it working on VE, so its in their just hidden.
IF you get in car, start it, put it in reverse, the revering diaply comes up with display, then if you have blueetooth on, the display changes to "voice in" and you lose the reversing display for about 5 seconds, just when you need it if kids have run behind car. Also if you adjust radio while reversing it turns off the reversing display (audio still works) and you can't get it back. Also if you have handbrake slightly on, the reversing display won't come on.
Also agree with others, why not auto up on at least drivers window?
Car seat anchor points aren't lined up through carpet, you need to get your head in (no space between parcel shelf and rear glass) and visually guide them. Then once in place the buckle thing that clips into the stirrup sits on the speaker grill (Left and right sides), will mark it very quickly.
Not enough power supplies. Unless you option the Smokers pack and the Boot supplly you only get one. And its in the centre console which means most standard power leads are too short to get onto dash. I personally have, mobile phone charger, NavMan charger, Rear DVD power supply, Radar detector (yes these are still legal in NZ). Pain having to juggle 4 supplies. Could have used one in glovebox, one in the back of the pocket you get if you don't have smokers pack and a couple in the rear for kids/adults toys.
Drink holders in the rear fold down armrest, this would have cost nothing but been VERY useful.
Left scroll wheel, when on MP3 mode and you roll up or down through songs, it doesn't update the screen for the changed track, it does if you use the knob (menu). The whole TFT screen/audio is underwelming, it has great potential, but many bits are very under developed. Would be great to see a software update to tidyup the various functions.
Gaps under wheels arches, the front plastic inner guard has a hole about 2 inches square where the panel meets the bumper. That hole collects sand and road grime, especially in the wet. It then vibrates its way between the guard and the bumper and is wearing the paint as well as discolouring the join. I have fitted 100MPH tape to one side and it seems to have solved the problem, but it would be better if Holden fixed that design flaw.
Note this is not a bit[h session, just pointing out some areas where the report card says "could have tried harder" overall its still an A+ from me. I love my R8.

Oh and while im at it, why doesn't the Radio have RDS on it. I thought that was like stereo, everybody has it. My 2001 Mondeo had it. Very useful to have radio change to the same station on a stronger frequency as you are driving.
Also station naming would be nice. Using the frequency to tell which station I programmed into FM2 Pos 5 is old hat, even my el cheapo Home Theater allows me to name the inputs and stations.

The A6 needs alot of attention the fuzzy logic is far to fuzzy. Turning into a hair pin bend on Bulli Pass and the box changed back to 2nd gear compression lock up car sideways, then stuck in second gear till I stopped and it reset, then again 2 nights later stuck in 2nd gear going down stanwell tops, car is now gone....

I think they probably don't have auto up poer windows because people may get themselves jamming fingers etc, or kids could flick auto up and then lean out window! could be nasty.
I hate the console lid the way it locks back and sounds like it is going to break when you close it.
Annoyed at having to ask for Radiator cover and plugs to finish off the windscreen cowling under the bonnet hinge. Have a look they are missing!!!
Having to pay for boot lid carpet, should be included on SSV Calais V at least.
Factory towball (reecehitch style) has a smaller square than standard and for example my standard reece hitch bicycle carrier wont go into VE tow bar!:cussing:
Other than that i love the car!!!!!!!

2113km on my VE R8 -
1. Windscreen washer bottle not working.
2. Light in centre console never worked and the activation button was broken from factory.
3. Fogged up tail lights after 2 cleans.
4. 12v Jack needs to be toward the dash as my radar detector cord does not reach.
5. Centre console gets stuck sometimes.
6. Stone Chip on bonnet already!!!!!

* Cup Holders are a pain int he arse in a Manual. Try having any type of soft drink bottle in it and change gears.
* Cup holders off the back of the centre console at least in the higher models
* Traction control button to be moved to the dash, constantly accidental knocking it and turning the system off.
* Trip time??
* Ipod interface
* Better bluetooth interface to display call in numbers on the dash/radio screen and to access phone book.
All things that would make the car so much better. However still love it to bits.

Gday,
I Love my VE MALOO but maybe they needed to spend 1.1b. Nah, here's a couple of things I would like to see rectified/improved/considered.
- Noisy front end, suspension issue or loose banging noises going over small bumps at speed.
- Surely knowing how big blind spots are in the Maloo, why not use convex or appropriate designed mirrors.
- Sunroof provisions/options
- Auto window up
- On visual inspection pre-sale the body kit for the Maloo was atrocious. Top sailplane panel was warped and misaligned, side skirts waved and protruded from line of car, side sailplane panels with MALOO on em were loose and misaligned.
- Cup Holders suck. In the way for manual and find they are too small for my coronas, haha
- Glove box has limited storage
- No spring loaded mechanisms for 'seat forward' both angle and slide.
- lower tie down points in tray
- Some sort of protective panel/lining/shield for "high contact" parts of the ute for those of us that do use it for work, ie ;
-rear of tonneau hardlid,
-top and inside of tailgate,
-door sill plates
- Front parking sensors
- Stereo is crap. 70K surely warrants a kick ass stereo or atleast better amps, speakers, subby
- The tonneau release doesnt work all the time, it makes this loud shuddering sound
- No locking provision on fuel cap. We all know the price of fuel almost warrants floggin it
- Very difficult to get towbar fitted to ve ute, what tha????????????
- Personally prefer cruise control toggles within thumbing distance of steering wheel.
- 12V in good spot for not much, how bout in dash somewhere and tray would be nice while Im at it.
- Default wiper down.
- ok thats about it. still love it 2000k into it but merely suggestions.

- SSV Boot lid carpet.. shoulda come with!
- Be nice to have SS stitched into the rear seats.. only the fronts atm...
- Stock engine sounds like a sewing machine on idle lol ;)
- Could come without the 4wd suspension after all it is a sports car!
- Better brakes imo.. hell some decent 4 spots woulda been nice even if on the front only!
- Cup holders in front.. had two powerades in there yesterday have to lift elbow above them when changing gears..
- Radiator cover and two other clips missing in engine bay..
- Could have had better engine cover eg split version to stop excess heat build up..
- Smaller lion badges would have looked better too..
- majority of metallic ve's ive seen have slight colour shade differences in bumpers to the bodies of the cars.. as most know..
- IMO the SSV should come standard with a full sized spare..

Agree with a lot that has already been said, in particular;
- AUTO UP for power windows - can't believe you would have power windows without !!!!!!
- USB or dedicated iPOD interface instead of the crappy AUX IN socket. (Track names would then be visible !)
- HID's should be standard (at least an option !) for cars with projector headlights (SSV etc). Yes I know it is an easy fix to fit HID's but these are illegal and big cop bait.
- Door trims / door pockets. Mine are badly scratched after 6 months & I am pretty careful entering / exiting the car. Never had this problem with my 5 previous cars.
- Brakes - should at least offer an option of performance brakes
But is still a great car !!!! :)

I have auto power up AND down on BOTH front windows in E Senator & i'd say Calais V has it so you may be able to retrofit. They should put them on SSV & higher. GTS don't even get them. And gee they must be expensive.
My ideas on improvements:
- Auto shift map is all over the shop. I didn't want to tune this car but that is going to happen now to fix this. 1 - 2 chirps tyres. 2 - 3 is slow & blurred.
- Front speakers are hideous. My VT sounded better stock. I must have 2 blown fronts. They just can't be that bad. You'd think at least on top models you could put a $100 speaker set in & have no complaints. Charge me another $100 if need be. Now I have to fiddle again and replace all the speakers.
- That A pillar. In tight twisty mountain roads its very bad. Whilst I know to do a triple check on turns, roundabouts & bends if I lend the car to someone its very dangerous. My wifes work has a VE for people to use and it is basically driven each day by first timers. Scary. To be fair the VT - VY & monaro had them on T intersections & roundabouts but nowhere near as bad.
- GTS owners get ripped on all electric gadgets that the senator has which is why I didn't choose one.
- I can't believe they make boot carpet lining an option SSV. Again must have been very expensive to put in. Glove box will be a $1000 option on statesman soon.
- NO XENON headlights or option on all models. You'd think Senator would get them, heck base stateman does. If not only low beam. I bet next model gets them & new engine just to make me angry.
- No painted sills or mirrors on senator. Did I buy an executive.
- Whilst wider rear tyres on HSV looks very cool & i'm all for it I now need to be able to flip my tyres on the rim to get good wear but the supplied tyres aren't able to have this done. Are people getting good tyre wear. Please don't tell me the cars chop the insides out of the rear tyres still.
- Cars still don't seem to be given to the owner with a wheel alignment when new. Mine has chopped out both outside fronts in 7000km's. Some dealers might do it. I can't rotate or flip my tyres so I hope its just alignment or i'm buying some shares in dunlop as they aint cheap.
Now wheres that Wheelking phone number.....
Other wise brilliant brilliant car. Boy is it good.

:driving:
I took delivery of my HSV GTS VE last month and so far the car has been back 3 times and returned with issues not fixed.
Here they are:
Fixed:
Wiper Bottle (was apparently a known recall item yet was not done prior to delivery)
Outstanding Issues:
Vibration at speed through steering wheel. Detected 3 mins out of the dealership on delivery. (So far been back twice and dealer returned car back saying that issue had been fixed but vibration still there. They also dammaged front left wheel on first attempted fix. Vibrations worse when wet and with MRC set to sport.)
Damaged LF wheel as per above. (Dealer has sent to be repaired)
Paint blemishes on bonnet. (Dealer says whole bonnet will need respray. I Will also need to get them to get paint protection redone with warranty).
Misaligned Drivers door. (Dealer has ordered new hinges and says they will need spraypainting along with the bonnet.. I will make sure I talk about the mount points to now reading this forum)
Clutch pedal sucked to floor. (needed to pull up with foot. have not reproduced since.)
Recirculated Air function sucks in external fumes rather than recirculates. (Dealer told me that systems checks out ok on the computer, dealer fobbing me off sayings thats what it's meant to do. But it is plainly faulty as my nose tells the story. )
I have raise a cas with Holden Customer Services and HSV direct. Waiting for answers and solutions.
I would like to hear from people with similar issues so I can compile a list so we can get some satisfactory solutions here. Please PM me if you want to be included.
I personally feel that issues like this should be answered by vehicle relplacement with a properly QA'd vehicle that will not need to enter the "warranty protection program" as soon as you take delivery. plus when it does go in for "warranty repairs" I think we should be compensated for the losses incurred (ie. $50 per day is what lease costs us). Either give us another equal or better car to drive for that time not an inferior model or credit us the cash we're spending on owning these vehicles.
I also own a Mini cooperS $55k (only 1 warranty issue in 3 years and was given a BMW Z4 to drive for the duration of it's stay in service).
For an $70k + vehicle I expect more in the build quality. Alot more.
I would expect this from a Chinese import not a homegrown "special" vehicle.
Even Hyundai's seem to have better QA than this.
Frustrated and dissapointed.
Alcamie.

Ahh that might explain my wiper bottle water is going all over my feet when i fill it up. Had a look and there is a u bend it the filler pipe and it has just broken straight off. How do they have a heap of test mules and not pick this up or when they design it think this aint good. Just had mine serviced and forgot to mention it. Still like it now. You don't mind the odd problem if its fixed up properly. When the word doesn't seem to get out like a washer bottle recall or check to all HSV dealers it dissappoints or a fault not fixed the first time. You pay a premium for hsv service so they have this internal knowledge. I might as well be servicing somewhere else now. I hate taking it in with faults then getting no fault found on the whole lot of them then it does it soon as you get in the car. They refuse to get the mechanic to get the customer to show them which i think is half the problem. Now I have to book in leave it for two days. have them call and say they need to order a washer bottle and for me to drop the car back & prob get an answer like never seen that before. I will then ask if its a recall type fault as i've heard on here and they will look it up and say oh yes it is. I'd hate to be getting two panels repainted like the other guy tho. Make sure you get the paint checked by another spray painter after its done. The clear coat has peeled of two of my hsv body kits in the past & they just contract this out to a nearby shop to fix. One lasted 12 months & gee warranty over now. yippee. I don't mind a fault but hate hate hate having to explain to front desk monkeys with no idea about cars that the fault is there still.

The display for MP3's needs to default to artist and song title, not folder and track number... mine reads Folder 1 Track 124 or what ever (i just want to know what the song is as soon as its on!)
Carl, I think your car has the same stereo as my SSV and I read on here how to make the display show artist and song title. If you press the Display button at the bottom right of the screen repeatedly while an MP3 is playing it cycles through all the display options for MP3s. If you hold the Display button down for 5 to 10 secs it will lock in the display you are on (can be a bit tricky to get the timing right but persevere) and it will stay that way even when you turn the car off and get back in next day.
I have found that once or twice a week it will reset itself back to the Folder/Track display but I just repeat the process (10 secs max) and it's OK for at least a few days again.
The VZ also had a the ability to switch the trip computer to a digital speedo which I used a fair bit but so far can't find it in this model.
Apologies in advance if this doesn't apply to the 3 window display (never played with one) but on the SSV you get the digital speedo by just pressing the (left) Trip button on the steering wheel repeatedly. It just cycles through the various display options and digital speedo is the last one.

Ok, will give it a try. The problem is, when ever it plays a song with no song info on that file, it changes the display setting automatically... If only I could get my hands on the software that runs the car I would fix all these problems... Imagine what people would do if this stuff was open source!
I have had 25,000km in my R8, best car i have ever owned.

Gday,
I Love my VE MALOO but maybe they needed to spend 1.1b.
- Some sort of protective panel/lining/shield for "high contact" parts of the ute for those of us that do use it for work, ie ;
I too bought a new Maloo back in the first week of December and experience some similar problems to yourself.
1/ The front knock is a common issue apparently caused by a faulty front strut.Get it sorted ASAP underwarranty.
2/ Poor panel fitment - I had exactly the same problem as well as overspray in the door jam, masking marks from repairs, overspray on the rear quarters.
When I picked the car it was so poorly presented and dirty that the faults were not obvious.
Only when I got home and washed it did I realise what a disgrace it was to the point I was to embarrased to drive the thing around.
A total of 23 faults were found with the exterior finish along with the faulty strut.
After several meetings with the warranty manager from the dealer,Holdens regional warranty manager and HSV the car was booked in at a repairer of my choice for a full respray.
So after having the Maloo sit in the garage for 2 months and now nearly 4 weeks at the Paint shop I look forward to finally getting what I paid for.
In that time I have not been contacted once by the salesman who sold and presented me with the car to keep me informed with progress.
Fortunately HSV and Holden were both very accomadating.
If anyone is travelling from Gippsland region into Melbourne to buy a HSV I would be staying on the Berwick bypass.
ps With the petrol cap try opening once the car is locked mate.....
