Hello everyone! My name is Nick Carter and I reside in the USA.
I am the proud owner of a Cadillac CTS with the 3.6L VVT V6 engine. My Aussie friends might know this engine better as the DOHC 3.6L Alloytec V6
(190kw).
I have had contact with several people from Australia and that is how I found out that the same engine in my CTS is also used in the Holden Commodore.
Basically, Im looking for ANY information on getting more power from this engine. Im looking for information on companies that make ANY performance parts as well as opinions on the parts available.
At this point, the only performance modifications available in the USA for the 3.6l Cadillac CTS is cold air intake and exhaust systems. I have been working extensively with PowerChip USA and Australia to get their performance tune deployed in the USA but that has not been finalized just yet.
I know Pacemaker makes headers for our engine. Any idea how much they cost or do any of you have opinions on them?
AGAIN- I am looking for ANY performance modifications for the 3.6L 190kw DOHC Alloytec engine.
Thank you in advance for any help everyone!
Please feel free to visit us over at cadillacforums (i cant post links). You can usually find me in the CTS Forum.
I was going to show a couple pictures of my car but the forum does not allow it.
THANK YOU AGAIN EVERYONE!!
Nick Carter

Tuning should be available for this engine shortly as discussed in a few threads on here

*Sigh*
Everytime I read anything about "supercharger" and "V6" on this site it just makes me wish HSV would bring back the XU6 with a blown alloytec. :bawl:

Hey Nick,
My sister's are huge fans.
What sort of trans you running in your car? I had an earlier model commodoore that had the 190kw Alloytec with a 5 speed auto behind it, complete with seldom used steering mounted paddle shifters. Was a pretty good car all round, but was a company car so I couldn't modify it. I reckon a diff ratio change would really wake this engine up and give it a bit more life down lower in the rev range.
And yeah, a supercharger would help too.
Cheers,
Benno.

Tell them I said thank you! My car has a 5 speed auto with sport mode. Bone stock the car will run 1/4 mile in under 15 seconds. With my mods I should be at about 14.7. Or for you Aussies- 0 to 100km in 6.4 seconds, better with my mods. The issue of changing our differential has been beat to death. In theory it is possible but the problem of changing the computer configuration is the real challenge. With VCM coming out with a tuner in the next few weeks this might change. The car currently has a 3.41 differential. Has anyone swapped a differential on a Holden with the 3.6L??

Hey pal, if I wanted that route Id buy a CTS-V with the LS2 and crush any LS1. Thats not what Im looking for here. Over here in the states insurance on such a high end V8 car will kill you. My insurance on a CTS-V would be over $350 per month. Once Im closer to 30 it will go down, until then I will not dump so much money down a black hole to the insurance companies. My car is plenty fast for now and really enjoy driving it. If I can get it into the 315hp range I will be happy. And no, Im not dreaming. Thanks!

i got the 190 eng in my sv6 ute, but with the 6 speed behind it. I too am waiting for the tune software to be released but a twin turbo setup is the way im heading.
( and Blonk1 i also have a modified ls1........and although it responds well to simple mods, its not the pinnicle of engines)

LS1/2's are great, and i wish i could drive one.
However, from what ive heard from mechanics and dealers alike, is that if your after really huge power and torque, the ls1's will do it for cheaper money, but for that little extra you can get the 6 to perform just as high, and they seem to be a 'stronger' engine.
Plus, something appeals to me a little more, about having a nice sv6 badge on the back and blowing the doors off a HSV LS1/LS2 alike.
(hoping they havnt got a gentt)
Just my two cents.. otherwise id be in a GTS right about now.
Bloody p plates..
Cheers.

Quick question, if you have had a tune and you take the car to holden to get it serviced etc and sometimes they have to reset or reflash the computer, does it erase the performance tune that was done.
I'd had a tune done on an sv8 years ago and was told to tell Holden whenever i took it in to them to not reset the computer.
Not sure what the go is on this. I'd hate to spend money on a tune to have holden reset something and its all gone.
Is there a way around it?

Eddie: Tunes these days are usually "locked" by the tuner. So prying eyes - and erasing hands cannot hurt them... Always best to tell Holden not to bother though trying to flash your car with an upgrade as they may waste time sitting there trying to figure it out..

Im hoping some ECM edits for the Alloytec would be worth it.
I wouldn't mind a few more herbs in the Alloytec in the Rodeo.
Although a decent exhaust system would help.

It wouldn't be that you own the F6 and have troubles imaging that the Holden 6 is good for big numbers too !

From what I understand, if the chip has been changed then the Holden Tech 2 diagnostic system can't diagnose anything as it doesn't recognise the chip

Hi guys, found this on the PowerChip Australia website:
"Your Holden Commodore VZ 3.6 V6 Alloytec 190 uses an ECU which has 'flash' memory. The flash EPROM inside the ECU is a hybrid and cannot be modified in the conventional chip tuning method. Powerchip can 'flash' program the EPROM device by interfacing with the computer's wiring connector plugs to reprogram the chip that contains the engine's fuel delivery, ignition timing and throttle response settings. The ECU will need to be removed from the vehicle and sent via overnight courier to Powerchip. We have full photo ECU removal instructions to assist you and we will contact you after the order is made to organise the shipping information and other details.
In standard form, the Commodore VZ 3.6 V6 Alloytec 190 produces 190 kW and 340 Nm.
Powerchip has a range of chips to suit your car, which can increase it's power to between 197 kW and 201 kW, and it's torque to between 353 Nm and 357 Nm."
Elsewhere on the site in the FAQ section it says that dealers' diagnostic equipment is not locked out and that they "can still obtain all fault codes and error codes after the Powerchip is fitted". But then they also go on to vehemently advise against any servicing of any cars by the respective dealerships!

I have worked extensively with powerChip USA and Powerchip Australia on this. I provided them with some technical details on the CTS and arranged a test car in the USA. The tune they did here could only get 5hp gain. That works out to like 3kw gain. They are still working on it but things are not looking very promising as they never reply to my e-mails anymore. After all the work I put in on this thats like a kick in the junk!

Yeah that's no good mate. If you look at the prices... I dunno... for spending the same amount of $$$ on other types of mods you might be able to get bigger gains... but what would I know lol
