Guys, lady who works for me has a monaro and has to park it in the sun at work.

The sun is starting to fade/ crack the rear leather seats and i am hoping to find her an alternative to putting a towel of the seats.

Can someone steer me / her into the right direction on obtaining a rear venetian or advice to keep the sun out.

thanks

rear venetians are very ugly, although if its protection your after it may be the way.

otherwise, you could go for a fairly dark side and rear window tint, you would be suprised how well this blocks out the sun and heat!

could possibly even use one of those sun shades normally used for the front windscreen, although where to stick it down in a monaro im unsure.

there may possibly be an aftermarket venetion made, although i havnt come across one. there is no genuine one listed as far as i can see.

Also make sure that she keeps up the leather care.... regular doses of leather conditioner, and even dubbin or the like used on saddles....

I do my seats every month or so, and on a 4 yo car I don't even have the wear marks on the bolsters, and I am small so I crash over them a lot!

Rear Venetian Blinds can be bought from Autobarn, they are the agents for a company somewhere in Melbourne who are custom making them for all cars, my old man got one for his new GT .I give him shit all the time for having it but in saying that it does block out all the nasty rays in NW Qld ... hope this helps

Years ago I had a Black metal venitian in a VN SS, I think it was a Holden accesory at the time, it was for ever developing rattles and squeaks, I would adjust it and a week or so later the dam thing started to rattle again, in the end I pulled it out and sold it.

supercheap have those outside black louvers also, don't see to many cars with them on.

they work well as the sun doesn't even get through the window, so reduce inside temps. pain to clean the window.

the inside Venetians stop the sun but let the heat through the window first so don't reduce the heat much.

I had one of the black exterior louvres on my VL for years - it was great for keeping the car cool and looked OK on the mighty VL but somehow it just wouldn't seem right on a Monaro.

having a girl drive a monaro doesnt sound right also so perhaps two negatives = a positive..:p:p

Aunger use to make them , dont know if they are still around.

The rear window is on such an angle the friggin sun just fries the rear.

thanks for the input.

Tint the windows, keep the leather condition and also keep an open bottle of water inside the car.

To keep the moisture level up inside the car, and to stop the leather drying out as quickly. ... and to make the windscreen fog up really quickly when you turn the heater on in winter.

I've wondered about the same thing for our GTO-At the moment, I just have a blanket over the top of the back seat--I look at all those unsold GTOs sitting out in the sun day after day--it makes me cringe!
I read in the GTO handbook that metallic tint will spoil radio reception on one band, & ordinary tint will cause a problem on the other--if your aerial is in the rear window--as ours is!
I note that for the VE, Holden have a couple of solutions-they have an external shade, but also an internal shade made out of a sort of black mesh--the latter would be ideal for the Monaro/GTO, but I don't think you can get them for a Monaro.
So, I'm still trying to solve this problem myself. One thing's for sure--there's going to be a lot of cracked leather back seat tops in monaros in the future, if the problem goes unsolved!
What other ideas are there?
Cheers, Pickles.

good point.. the black mesh like a shade cloth..ive seen it before

i can vouch for the metallic tint... it screwed up my AM reception in my STI because the aerial was laminated in the rear window... not even a aerial booster could fix... next tint ... No metallic.

Yeah, I've had several Brock cars, & had a rear venetian in each of them (in black). I've had a very minor rattle from time to time, but the benefits of the venetian far outweighed that. If I could get one for the GTO, & it was a quality product, like the Holden ones always were, I'd probably fit one. At the moment, a blanket's all I can think of.
Cheers, Pickles.

If you are doing anything with mesh or whatever, you'll have to make it, or get it made for you. There weren't enough Monaro's made, and there definitely isn't enough demand, for pre-made versions. Remember what the market for these cars was.... People buy two doors for looks, not practicality....
All the best with what you choose, but a non metallic tint really is the go, as you'll get what you're after, and still a have good looking car.
