i run 98 ultimate or caltex stuff allways but every 5 or 6 tank fulls chuck a bottle in just for good measure.
what are your thoughts on this stuff ? :driving:

98 ron would be enough on a stock motor shouldnt be any detanation problems with a stock motor i think the octane booster would be a waste of cash

I use Octane Boost for special occasions LOL..
Be it the placebo affect or not with the mods I have in place, but I have used it many times and I swear blind the Calais V goes heaps better at high end stuff when Nulon Pro Strength Octane Booster is added to mine. Its a 7 point octane improver..

And everytime Ive used it at the track I go slower :werd:

Unless your flogging the shite out of it...save your cash or put it towards something useful...like beer!

So do I......;) but I follow the instructions on the bottle :deal:

Used to measure out octane booster in a clear container to put in an 1/4 tank at the track. One time it came out of the bottle black and looked like it had lumps in it, never again for me. I have since heard stories of it killing fuel pumps/systems with blockages and from what I saw I can believe it.
Use fresh 98 octane from a new busy servo with a good tune.

how does the new 100 octane with 5% E in it compare.. that is.. does this fuel have the cleaners and detergents in it for injectors etc?

unless you have a tune id say it wont make to much difference. you may find it will drag out your economy on long trips.

.
Dunno  3 years / numerous bottles of OB / near 800 runs on the stock Holden fuel system and no adverse effects to report from this quarter

I am currently using the Mainlube Fuel Additive and I know it's doing it's job and I now know I would never fill up without adding some additive.

I have heard it destroys your O2 sensors and cats. Any truth in this?
Apparently octane booster is lead based aswell.

Many people swear blind they notice improvements from things they waste money on. Hmmmm...
A stock motor can really only make use of so much octane. More octane doesn't always mean more power, but it certainly means a more empty wallet...
Most octane boosters don't lift the octane anywhere near the number of points they say anyway!

put a full tank of ultimate in yeaterday as the barge goes to sonnys  on wednesday for a mafless tune and i want every last ponnie i can get out of her:driving:
and 1 full bottle of pro strength ob and i swear after about 50 km or so i could feel it in the seat of my pants.
even seemed to idle bettter and i know my fuel system is 100% as the injectors are new ls6 items to go with the manifold that sonny is putting on.
any way i think it makes some difference.:teach:

So your getting it tuned with 98 and octane booster in the tank?
Wouldn't that mean you will need to keep using this cocktail
permanantly after the tune?

yep because it would be tuned for that fuel

Yes,
When I was running a ported maf I was able to make very good power, but was right on the verge of detonation, to the point that there was audible pinging on full throttle.
Since having a safe MAFLESS tune I no longer have to put octane booster in the tank.

Running anything over 95 on a stock Holden tuned V8 is not going to give any extra power. This is simply because the standard timing tables don't run anywhere near the amount of timing advance to utilise its higher octane. On tuned cars bloody oath it makes a difference. My car looses a noticable amount of power on 95 and pings a bit too.
Guys can run 98 if they want to clean their fuel system. But if they think they're making power off it, they can stop pulling themselves.

The thread is referring to the advantage if any of octane booster, not
the advantage of 98 fuel over 95 ;)

Pardon my ignorance but doesn't a higher octane through booster adding slow down the combustion burn? I read this on the internet so it must be true.
I understand a controlled burn doesn't ping but what does it do for power? Less or more?

Wow, Im ignorant on this stuff too. What does "slowing the combustion burn" corelate to in outcome on a tuned car - good, bad or indifferent:bow: :teach:
Can someone clarify for me please???

In my layman's understanding it does many things but mostly increases the threshold to detonate - that is for the air/fuel to ignite before the spark or to burn too quickly after being ignited. You can imagine your piston is on the way up encountering a quickly burning and expanding mixture hence causing knock or pinging - ie the charge is trying to push the piston down when it is still on its way up. That's why you can run more ignition advance with high octane fuel, ie start the mixture burning earlier (while the piston is still coming up), because it will burn in a more controlled and slower manner.
Imagine then, an engine not tuned for higher octane/better controlled burning fuels - the fuel burns too slowly in the combustion chamber hence the power stroke is mostly over before the fuel has burned properly. This would be inefficient and create soot and deposits in the combustion chamber as unburnt/incompletly burnt fuel is constantly present. Plus lose power.
Just the simplistic way I understand it.

I made the mistake of putting my VY II SS ute in for an exhaust and tune after mixing Nulon Pro Octane Booster in with the fuel.
I had completely forgot when putting the car in for a tune but realised what I had done a few weeks later when the car was running like sh$t and pinging.

Hmmmm, mine had some residual boost in the tank on my most recent edit (last Thursday). Hope the same does not happen to mine..
Thanks for the info guys, I understand it better now..;)
