Hey guys, I know this is an LS1 forum, but i kno there are a few ecotec owners as well. just wondering... Is there any causes of power loss in the ecotec? I remember i used to be able to light up the rear tyres while lightly pressing the brakes, now, after a pretty long drive from wollongong back to sydney travelling at pretty high speeds, i cant even do it anymore. Its as if its got no more bottom end torque. i press down the brakes lightly and floor it, yet it hardly revs to 3000, just slightly pass 2500. Does this relate to all engines? any feedback would be nice...
cheers

p.s Sorry about reposting this, cus i accidentally put it in the tar pit section.

Hey dude not sure if this applies to Ecotec but maybe try a PCM reset. Usually the computers learn how you drive and like you said you were on the highway for a bit so maybe it has gone funny...

Disconnect the battery for 15 mins or so and see how it goes after that...

again just guessing

Maybe one of the sensors has gone eg. crank angle sensor is very typical on Ecotecs. That typically more causes problems with starting, though possibly could also cause problems with revving - not sure sorry. A mechanic would know better, but there are a number of sensors.

Also, just a vacuum hose that had come loose or developed even a pin prick hole could cause similar problems.

Go over your basics like leads, spark plugs, fuel filter etc to start with. Could be a number of things from your description. Best way to find out is to check for error codes or take to holden / mechanic get them to plug in the scan tool.

Thanks for the replies. Thing is, same thing has happened to my mates VS calais (both our cars are auto), he used to light em up easy with the brakes, and now very hard, or not even. Accleration still feels the same, but its just when im trying to do that feat that it seems powerless. But yeh, i guess i'l be visiting a holden mechanic within the next few weeks.
Again thanks for the replies, regards

Check the engine mounts, may sound stupid but trust me thats all it was in my mates, open bonnet start engine get your mate to watch and place the car in drive, with foot on brake and slowly accelerate if they are broken it will look like the engine is about to jump out of the engine bay.

Try pulling your spark plugs out, if any are damp then you have an ignition problem. Common on the ecotec are the coil packs and or the plate under the packs. If you have a mate whos car is running good borrow his its about a 20 minute job and can be done as a whole unit. If it fixes it then swap the parts over one at a time till you find the issue.
Being a 99 from memory the plug gap should be 1.5 mm you should also check them while the plugs are out.

But from what you have said it sounds like an engine mount

Good luck and let us know what you find

Might have something to do with the fact that they are not meant to be driven with a foot on the brake and one on the gas pedal...

my 2 cents

yep i think engine mount...

Had the same problem...the car was shakey/shuddering at take off..turned out to be the bottom right engine mount..which was torn.

To test it do what jnrss50 said...the engine will lift up n bounce back down violenly lol.
