Just joined the club last week... been browsing forums for a few hours, seems like a great place, so thought I would join in, and chat/leech/help/query :p

Dec '01 VX SS (this is series 2 from what I gather?)
69000km, bright red, auto
cat-back
k&n filter
stainless extractors

^^^ bought with these already done.

Trying to contact old owner through the dealer, to find out more about the mods, but a performance parts guy in Auckland (specialising in LS1's) says I should be making about 240 - 250kw as it is with those mods (this was over the phone) (not sure how that would equate to rwkw, I will dyno it when i get the chance).

Have ripped out the eurovox head, and put a new stereo in, plus an extra pocket below. I plan to tint the windows, and leave looking stock (including stock height, as i go lots of places where low would be too much trouble for me!). Also I hold a consultancy position with a prominent NZ company, and choose to supply my own car for work (reimbursed costs of course!) and need to be presenting a good image - a really hotted up car, though looking great, might not be the best look for what I do!

Have been offered a $900NZD upgrade to around 290-ish kilowatts (intake, ecu edit/tune/whatever it is) which sounds like good value to me.

Any other tips, advice or comments?
Am I likely to be making 240-250kw with the existing setup?
Whats a typical stock rwkw figure?
If Im making 245kw, what would be a reasonable rwkw figure there?

Test drove a totally stock VYII SS just before the VX, and the VX was WAY more responsive at bottom end, and just seemed quicker overall (and the VX was $5k cheaper - which landed it right in my price range to pay cash, and have no repayments!)

Had the car since last Tuesday (posting this on the following Tuesday), have done about 1600kms already, and am lovin every bit of it.

Aside from the $900 im looking at spending, plus tints, I dont plan on doing anything else to it. In 18 - 28 months when the base VE-SS is going cheap, I will probably flick the VX and upgrade.

Hey mate congratulations sounds like you got a nice car and welcome to the forum...

What size is the cat back on it dude? preferably it should be a twin 2.5 inch system or a single 3.5 inch system. If not I would look at a sureflow 3.5 inch system in medium(check their sponser section). They are pretty amazing in sound and performance.

Then get the edit and CAI. What type of intake mod is it?

If you search MCAI you will find plenty of info on a cheap mod you can do yourself and would probably be better value for money (not sure though depends what your getting done. The included intake with the tune could be this mod!)

Have a read through the Jeff3205 post for the real basic Bolt on mods which should outline what are the most efficient power increases (I think)

It will help you understand some of the terminology used by people on here too:thumbsup:

Typical stock RWKW I think are about the 180 range for a VX. Yours currently would have close to 200RWKW at a guess.

You are probably making about 260-270 I reckon at the Flywheel

The exhaust system on your car has probably made it ALOT more responsive mate and thats why it was better than the VY for Seat of the pants feel...

Personally if I was you and going to upgrade in a short while (maybe) I would just do a MCAI and a tune. This should give you about 225RWKW which is pretty close to 300KW at the flywheel.

Enjoy your rig and apologies for the LONNNNG post:teach:
