Hi,

I've somehow managed to push the middle track 'up' button into the steering wheel enclosure. I don't think its snapped or anything - just dislodged.

Has anyone done this before - whats the best way of putting it back into place - i'm a little nervous of the airbag going off!?

Pictures attached..

Regards

Complete controls on the VY type models. New controls required.

Good luck with the warranty claim. I have 2 x VX commodores & they have both lost the down button on the right hand side (happened inside of warranty period), when you ask the dealer about this they answer yeah this happens a bit. But the punch is that you have to get the whole kit, cant just buy the buttons seperate, no warranty either.

But this problem is different to yours & I also have not heard it happening before on the VY/VZ wheels, so you might be lucky,

clubbyr8vx, PM if you still want to get rid of yours.....

no warrenty on the used car for this as you said - so they quoted 250 dollars(!) to which i declined. 10 mins later they called back and the price had magically dropped to $170...which is still alot for a small plastic button.

I guess its because its molded in pure silver then painted black and then fitted by a subset of highly specialised engineers that have to go through 10+ years of training to be able to change a button?

that MUST be it.....

Price the part then add the labour of removing the airbag, replacing the controls, then replacing the airbag, and the answer is pretty obvious. You have to replace the COMPLETE controls, not just a button. From memory, the controls are just over $100 alone....

$170 is alot of dough! You could probably replace it yourself. Look around eBay for a second hand unit. It should take about 15 minutes to replace the audio bits. Give yourself an hour if you haven't done it before. Do a search here for steering wheel replacement for instructions (you don't need to take out the wheel though).
