Hi guys,
Wondering if anyone has gone through transporting a car from Melbourne to Sydney - any idea of the turn around time? I.e. how long it takes from booking to pickup to delivery.
I work for a large IT distrbution company so I can tell you exaclty how long it takes to get a PC or laptop interstate, but a car is bit different I think (just a little bit)! :D
Cheers,

As a ballpark figure about $400-450. About a week is average, but that can depend on when a spot is available on the next scheduled truck...Cheers John

I got one sent recently from Canberra to Adelaide ... car was picked up 10:00am in Canberra and dropped off in Adelaide about 12:30PM the next day ... Toll Transport - $430.00.
Mel-> Sydney should be cheaper with the amount of transport options and being a shorter trip.

I used Patrick transport from Sydney to Melbourne with the car leaving Friday and getting picked up in Melboune the following Tuesday. Total cost was about $330ish 6 months ago.
Hopr this helps. :)

I used Patricks about 2 years back, took about 6-8 days and cost $550 - that was from Melbourne to rural NSW.

Not Melb to Sydney I know but earlier this year had a car brought down from Brisbane to Melbourne (depot to depot) in 5 days by Patrick Autocare. $415.
It was a 97 Commodore to use till my SSV arrives so I wasn't overly fussed about checking for any marks or anything but it had not done any extra mileage and fuel was still as it left Brisbane. They seemed quite good.

do they pick the car up from your place? or can you drop it off at the truck? cos i was thinkin bout doin this with my car when i go to qld for work, but i dont want some random jumping in my car and boosting it all round town and probably crashing it.

Don't know if this helps. I used a guy called max who has a private business. He charges $220 to get it down here to Campbellfield. He picked it up on Tuesday night and had it here Thursday night. I was very happy with him.
If you want his number it is 0411333528. Just tell him the guy with the red skyline recommended you.

Mine was taken to the depot in Brisbane and picked up from the depot in Melbourne. Would have cost me an extra $60 or so to have it brought out to my place (approx 50km) so I assume they could also pick up from your place for a similar charge (cost probably depends on distance to depot).
Speedo reading was taken at Brisbane by the person sending it down to me and checked in Melbourne - no addition, so car wasn't driven at all. Admittedly it was only a Commy V6 so no appeal for anyone to jump in and try it but those big places are professional and deal with lots of expensive and fast cars so can't really see it happening. Just make an obvious point of taking a photo of the speedo as it is about to leave!
Speaking of people giving cars they don't own a hard time, my daughter's fiance saw a red SSV and evoke GTS, both with trade plates on them, going round and round a block in Melb's northern suburbs today being absolutely caned........ Dragging each other and totally frying the tyres. Would hate to be the poor bunny who ended up buying either of those!!

haha, if theyre running very late it might leave at 1900, normal leave time down there is 1600-1700. will get into sydney 2-4am, and be ready for pickup once its processed from 6am in the morning. mind you if theyre busy, it might take longer, and you could always put it in a rail box and have it take a week or so, must be cheaper that way (i worked the syd melb for toll autologisitcs up until jan this year)
i tihnk you can pay more for priority.
SMB is dodgy, avoid.
and as for not thrashing cars around, it does happen occasionally, but only within the yard confined and is usually a boot up and down a ramp. this happens 98% of the time to brand new cars like AMG, M5's etc :)
And 98% of the time the workers are being watched and it will not happen. But noone sits there doing donuts or burnouts, they just give it a drive up the ramp and appreciate the car. while i was there noone sending their LS1 had it thrashed, mainly coz i told them not to. i advised fords were fair game :)

We always were watching the cars loaded and the cameras were watching us but as said fords are fair game also used for rubbish bins
