View Full Version : Set the VE turtle free!

Just thought I would share a pic of some twin covers on a VE, as a couple of people have posted that they don't fit. While the Holden VE turtle doesn't bother me too much I reckon the hi-rise HSV VE turtle is fugly so it had to go. Got some L76 covers and made a cutout on each end of the RH cover to clear the heater hoses. Apart from that they just clip straight on. For a bit of visual impact I painted the "6.0" and "GEN-4" logo. Might not appeal to everyone but I like it

Looks nice, well done, were did you get the front in fill cover that sits on top of the radiator, mine doesn't have that fitted, looks un finished in my engine bay. Looked at other SSV's at pickup and all were missing this cover.?

Thanks blownvr but my car doesn't have the panel that hides the top of the radiator, yours has a panel that sits under washer bottle and radiator overflow etc, if i could post picks i would show you what i mean. I checked all the SSv's at gardners and they were all the same? Is anyone else missing this plastic shroud, i have taken a picture if someone will post it for me.
Thanks, if it has a part number on it could you let me know and i will be ringing dealer and asking them to finish building my car!!!!!!!!!!!

Pilbara SSV, only the Omega V series should be missing the cover. So yeah they should be able to supply you one.

When you say you painted the 6.0 and GEN 4 bits do you mean that there are imprints there already and you just painted them to highlight them or that there is nothing there at all and you did the lot from scratch? Sorry, but have never seen the stock L76 covers. What sort of paint did you use?

I thought i saw a thread on LS1 a few weeks back where the shrouds were getting the chop on all models - not just the Omega's - the consensus was a bit of penny pinching from Holden....

Just some feedback on the radiator dress shrouds.
Rang dealer today and they are posting a shroud to us and said that '07 VE range weren't being fitted with shrouds. At $27.15 it is definately a tight arse thing to leave off, bit like the boot lid carpet that you have to fit yourself.
We will wait and see what turns up.

The covers have the "6.0" in raised lettering and "GEN-4" in sunken lettering in a logo thingy but it is all black so doesn't stand out very well. The "6.0" was painted with Ignition touch up paint supplied with the vehicle, I just used a fine modelling brush and lots of patience... The chrome silver paint I had left over from some scale models I built ages ago. I masked around the logo and used a small foam roller which left a textured finish. If I was doing it again I would use the brush for both colours and probably thin the touch up paint a little to get a more even finish. :)

It might be an HSV thing, the paint label has the HSV logo on it. Gotta get a few goodies for the extra $$!
BTW guys, thanks for all the positive comments :)

Unfortunately HSPO weren't anticipating a sudden rush on these given they typically only sell a couple of each per month worldwide. The LH one they still have a dozen or so of but the RH one they have none of and they are now on backorder. No outlook yet but I wouldn't hold your breath unless the suppliers in SA can deliver some pretty quickly.
They aren't the sort of thing dealers typically stock so unless you are lucky enough to find a dealer with the RH one it could be a bit of a wait till you can get one. :(

Yep, HSPO got 40 in so all should be good now. Having looked at mine I'm tempted to paint the whole black rectangular area in red and then do both the 6.0 and Gen 4 'badges' in silver. Whaddya reckon?
Edit: then again just looked at BlownVR's pics again - they do look good!

I also thought about spraying the whole black area Red then blocking back to the base black plastic the 6.0 but like you then I looked at BlownVR's again. Undecided mainly due to my ability to stay between the lines when painting

G'day BlownVR,
Just bought a pair of these for my VE SS (P/N 92068147 and 92068149) but somehow it doesn't 'snap' onto the metal bar like the stock one did. Do I need any other accessories to go with it ? Visually, they look like yours in the pic but somehow it doesn't seem like the right 'fit'.
Any help appreciated :)
Cheers,
Carlos

Mine clipped straight onto the fuel rails, no other parts required. Just the trimming for the heater hoses on the RHS cover. Perhaps mine don't snap on quite as tightly as the stock turtle but they definitely lock into place as intended.
Not sure what the issue is with yours. Try the LHS one first as that requires no modification and should fit perfectly. Make sure it is correctly located fore/aft before you push it onto the fuel rail.

Fitted the LHS without an issue so all I need to do is trim for hoses and then dress them up.

Hey mate, i just picked up a set of second handies and the guy i bought them off told me that you need to take the plastic inserts under the stock turtle and fit those bits to the new fitting tabs on the new ones.
Sorry havnt done mine yet but that was what i was told so unsure if it works yet but worth a look mate.
Cheers,
Andy.

Maybe do an outline with texta and an angle grinder?
Scissors might crack it, a knife might cut your finger off and crack it.
Maybe a hack saw with a small thin blade and fine teef.
Smooth with a file afterwards.:)
I havent done one yet but I imagine this is what I would do, unless there are other ideas.

Had a go at installing some of these today and it appears that the clips are not long enough to reach the fuel rail???? Do i have to bend the covers to make them fit? Ive cut the drivers side cover to clear the hoses but neither of the covers seem to go down far enough to latch on

Have a closer look and you will see there is another cover on the intake manifold that you have to take off for it to fit.

Did mine about 1 month ago and they fit fine. If there are any hoses in the way, thats after youve trimmed the covers, then just move the hoses slightly out of the way. I just had to push a couple of them to the side and then it snapped on.
If you have any trouble, feel free to drop around and I can help you.

I dont recall taking another cover off for it to fit on. The big turtle cover came off and the trimmed split VZ ones went on.
