I normally would reckon that the spoilerless look would suck, but that actually doesnt look too bad at all.

:hmmm: ... not sure, looks a little Omega-ish, I think it needs a Senator style boot lip at the very least.

Personally, I'd leave it on ... but thanks for trying it.

No offence taken each to their own. We would most likely put the senator lip fin on anyways. My fin sh*ts me it is far too big.

Your always paranoid about spoilerless HSV's being confused with a humble omega ! :stick:

What about the unique bumper, tail lights, big 307 badge, bottom diffuser, lowered stance, big fat wheels etc

I think it looks tough, leave it off. It will make it different to all the other HSV's out there.

But as Nick has said, A lip spoiler may look better (the one on the G8 looks horn)

The wing has no real effect anyway (unless you plan on driving above 160kph)

I agree, even the base SS wing blocks a large portion of the rear screen.

Ok we tried it, I liked it the hubby didn't like it.

I have to agree with him then. With the black it's ok coz it stands out on its own. Silver tends to blend in too much so the wings etc make it look more "out there"

Hmmm I disagree with that, I think black blends in more and silver stands out more..

Take it off! I love it. The wing is a little too big for my liking, much better without it. In the end though, these are your cars. I dont drive them everyday.

Leave it on.
As said above, without it something looks 'missing'.

Or... get a senator one.

I think both cars look great without the wing.

Im a big fan of a clean rear end, I bet in real life they would look so much tougher than they do in the pics, add lowered suspension and Im sold :)

And for those who start to think omega'ish, well let's not go there, it could turn ugly!

believe me these things are far from boring to drive, on a rainy day curiosity got the better of me, now that I know how easy they are to remove, one could mix & match at will. but once I put it back on it will probably stay there. the missus had a big sook, something along the lines of its not a bloody HQ, you should be building the barby area instead:cussing:

I think it looks good off the silver one. The black loses it a little as the lines aren't as clear, needs some chrome to highlight the lines. I think thats why the black CalaisV looks so good (Chrome detail against the black). When I'm bored I'll take it off my red one and post so you can start seeing (commenting on) other colours as well.

Spoiler off looks the bizzo I reckon... especially on black.

A lip spoiler wouldn't hurt, but I don't think the Senator one would look as good as a different design would.

The only negative about having the spoiler off is that it highlights the panel mish-mash that is the rear of the VE HSV. Don't get me wrong, I like the rear end, but the wing missing and the right light you get different reflections off different panels and it looks a bit unnnggghh.

And Loy Yang isn't that bad (or am I saying that coz I'm currently stationed there??? ;)) Actually, it's a lot better than some others...

That's a very good point. Why the hell couldn't HSV have made that whole rear out of one piece to avoid the bitsa look? There must be a reason. Did you notice some of the joins are photoshopped out in the HSV brochure? Daggy IMO.

belz and blackbetty,

Do you really have to ask? The both look fantastic with the wings off. A huge improvement in my book.
Cars are all about stance, look at M series BMW's and RS Audi's, there cool because they are squat and tough looking while keeping their subtle clean lines (the fact that they go hard doesn't hurt either).
Wingless HSV's achieve a similar look.

Apparently they spent $4 million on the lights "differentiation" project. (I read that in Wheels..., so get your grain of salt handy)

They are going after 'ze Germans with this product, but at a much lower price point. However, they are still designing (when compared to 'ze Germans) a boy-racer car with a big wing, not a Q car that looks understated, clean, tough and when you realise what it is it's a case of 'Hell, yeah... sleeper'

Take the AMG SL's for example. Or the E55 AMG or even the BMW M5. I know they cost tonnes more $$$ but they differentiate the cars by engine, brakes and rims from the regular Merc's or BMW's. I know the Senator chases this understated appearance, and for the most part it pulls it off. However, one area where the Senator/VE HSV's in general fall down is the panel layout at the back, particular the meeting point on the top corner where the taillights are in the Holden VE's. In the right light, that area can look downright ugly.

I like the tailights, but I think the panel re-integration should have been done a lot better.

But, at the end of the day, these things cost 1/2 to 1/3 of the equivalent Merc or BMW, so we really don't have much to complain about.

It's just that the arse of the E Series HSV's isn't a fine as Eleanor's, that's all... :p

with the spoiler off the uneven fit of that piece above the tail lights is pretty obvious. the bottom & sides are ok but the top part does'nt sit very well, one piece would be better, Im getting some funny looks driving around

macca_779
02-03-2007, 10:33 AM
its different to say the least. I just don't think the natural lines of the boot lid work on the HSV rear end. I vote to put the spoiler back on.

Then it appears Holden/HSV's build quality issues have moved elsewhere from bonnet / front 1/4 / rear 1/4 panel gaps.

Ah well, at least HSV are trying to be different. More than what can be said for other car companies.

blackbettyhsv, how is the paint colour on that panel matched to the rest of the body? I'm intrigued to see if its comes up a different colour/hue to the rest.

Cheers, Goof.

definetly not bored with the car, i've owned about 36 cars in my time, this is by far the most exciting car to date, it was just a lousy wet day & I was curious but now it is back on.

I am down in Melbourne this weekend and i was driving along Beach Road, Brighton when a black GTS came alone beside me and i had to do a double take when it went past and i saw that it had no rear spoiler.
Looked great i thought and still had great road presence.
