Congrats to Rick Kelly and his brother Todd. I guess that win today may dispel some of the knockers he had after Winning the chanmpionship last year. Lowndes finished in 13th today I think.

The big deal for me was that they got 2 brand new cars to finish 1 and 2 !! now that is pretty consistant and must have sent the ford guys a bit of an ominous message.

Dunce award goes to the stewards for penalising Paul Dumbrell for shunting young Perkins when his engine expired !!!

I also liked how Lowndes was in a pushy shovey mood this weekend, dare I mention the Max Wilson incident "proove we did it ah no that dent was there on the front bumper before the incident". He also tapped a few others during race 2 ... different story when its you doing it!

Sorry to further confuse things but if I understand correctly the winner of the Clipsal 500 is the winner of the second race regardless of what happened in the first BUT the round winner is the driver with the most points - so Clipsal trophy to winner of leg 2 , round winner to driver with most points!

V8 Supercar Champion Rick Kelly began his title defence in emphatic style in Adelaide yesterday when he won the season opener, the Clipsal 500.

The 24-year-old from Mildura made it a Kelly double when his older brother Todd came second for the round.

The Kelly brothers were too good for Ford young gun James Courtney as they gave Holden’s new VE Commodore the perfect debut.


It was Kelly’s fourth career round win, netting him 58 valuable points under the new points system. But despite the victory, his brother Todd leads the championship by 8 points - 66 points to 58 - due to the vagaries of the Clipsal points system.

They said it over the track commentary many times, the winner of race 2 will be the winner of the Clipsal 500, regardless of points. The round winner will be the driver with the most points over the two races. These are two seperate things. Rick Kelly won the Clipsal 500, Todd Kelly won the round.

What your saying does make sense (even though it is a stupid system) but if that's the case why does the V8 Supercars website claim Rick as the round winner and Todd second?

I understand it as one race (500km) with a halfway point. So although there are two winners the final placing is the official finnish. It just confuses people when AVESCO throw points in between.

Rick Kelly has finally silenced his critics. He has really matured into a great driver and Todd is just an all-round top guy, both of them have a great future as Holden hero's.

Nah i finally worked it out - its the new qualifying rules : The first 250km was the qualifying for the grid for Sundays race and for the first time in V8Supercar history points were allocated for Qualifying LOL
