Can anyone tell me why Rick Kelly only got 58 points from the two races, Todd got 66 but Rick has been credited with the round win?
Can't seem to find any info on this except some by lines in the internet press.
Cheers,
Andrew

Yeah this confuses me also, Todd is the official leader in terms of points, but because Rick won todays larger race he is deemed winner of the round. They tried to explain in on Fox sports by saying that yesterdays race was to determine the starting grid for todays race??? But at the end of the day a HRT car is leading the championship!! (but didnt get the silverware???)

Yeah it's BS, I've been whinging about this on another thread(motorsport one).
Rick Kelly is deemed the winner of the Clipsal 500 yet Todd collected 66 points to Rick's 58.
Even if you qualify last and get a dnf on the first rice you can still win the second race and be deemed the overall winner.
Some twit in a suit has obviously come up with this bulls$it rule. Makes no sense whatsoever.

I think it's a throwback from races where the Sunday race was longer, more prestigious etc. As with most throwbacks, it should be thrown back.

its just a shame its only the body of a VE cut and shut to fit the old chasis they cant use the advantages of the ve design because of the parity rules that erxist in v8 supercars

I thought it was a whole VE cut down to size inc chassis. Not just a panel job

they use the same diff , gearbox , brake size engine power
for both ford and holden cars , the rules have to make it all equal

Why can't they race what you can buy?
I know the rules make this the case but it would mean a lot more to me if I could go and buy the engine/car that actually races.
It would be great to see the 6.0L go up against the 5.4L Ford engine.
I know it is designed to keep it all equal to a degree but it seems the only difference is the badges and who can afford the best drivers?

Well, I have to say, I don't really like the side on view of the VE race car. The problem is the amount of body from the rear wheels backwards. It's too long and makes the car look like a Nascar which is the worst possible compliment I can imagine.

You are right, the whole platform/chassis/body etc is new, giving it improved rigidity. The wheel base and driveline has to stay the same for parity

because it would be boring to watch. Personally, I love the V8 supercars. Awesome racecars, sound good, go hard and stop..
I'd fall asleep watching slow, sloppy production cars.

I dont remember them being boring back when they were production cars! A VE SS today would give the race cars of the 80s a real run.
In fact I'd love to see the current brands up against the world just like before. Many things have changed and technology has evened the playing field somewhat..
Maybe a class with a few suspension, tyre and eng mods.

I was reading in one of the posts on Friday, that the VE's will be really struggling because of the crap body being bolted on the old chassis, well the proof is in the pudding, to me the cars looked great and fast and we are in for a great year.
Great to see the young guys come throught, i realy enjoyed watching the races, The Kelly's, Courtney, Wincup, Winterbottom.
Big smile today
Cheers

As I said its the whole platform they replaced. You can see how important the body set-up is when it impacts on suspension dynamics and brake performance. For a first time race I think the Holden teams will be pretty happy but there are some talented young drivers with Fords who are shining too and they deserve recognition also :bravo:

I see your point, but dont you think the racing in the brute utes was great? (brings back of memories of Wayne ELBOWS Gardner, lots of argy bargy get out of my way stuff) these utes are pretty much as you buy them off the showroom floor. Alot of other countries have very successful production car classes where people can see the actual car they are driving & get all warm & fuzzy because it beat the neighbours car by 3 laps :driving:

Except alot of the holden utes are still VU with different body panels.

Todd Kelly and Holden Racing Team secure Clipsal 500 round win
Release Date: 04/03/2007
Todd Kelly today followed yesterdays debut victory for the all new HRT VE Commodore with a second place and a resulting first round win of the year.
Todd, a narrow second behind brother Rick, finished the first Race of the year top of the table.
HRT’s Mark Skaife rebounded to finish amongst the points in seventh position and ninth position overall, with 21 points to his name.
However it was Todd Kelly – who collected 66 points in Adelaide – who stole the show and led for much of Race 2, before being overtaken by Rick Kelly with just six laps of the 78 lap circuit to go.
Todd Kelly who won the last race of 2006 and now the first race of 2007 has shown that his very strong form has continued into this season and will be looking to consolidate his early season lead when the V8s head west later this month.
Kelly #22
"It’s a fantastic start to the season and to think we had a new car in the mix between Phillip Island and here. We have learnt a lot about the car. At times it was a bit of a struggle today. I had to drive the car at 11 tenths the whole race, right from the first lap to the last.”
Skaife #2
"To roll two brand new Commodores out and be so competitive is a testimony to the expertise and hard work of all the Team at HRT. We're learning more every time we go out and with this momentum we can't wait to get to Perth."

Thats funny & I think I saw your point
But as most (not all) of the Holden V8 supercars up until the VE were VT & VX with the VY/VZ panels, but you cant walk in & buy 1 of those from your local Holden dealer. What you can buy though is the identical looking ute with the same engine that will handle pretty much the same way as the ute you just saw tearing around the race circuit.(this also applies to all production class racers)
Dont get me wrong I love the V8 supercars, it is just the old "Race on Sunday sell on Monday does not come into it anymore. As the cars may be similar in looks, but that is where it stops. My old man used to say there was nothing like owning & driving the proven king of the road.

I love watching the Brutes because there always barging through the field doing what ever it takes to get past someone else.
But at the same time i love watching the V8 supercars. Everyone complains that they are nothing like what you can buy for on road use but the same thing applies to F1. So many people love F1 but thos cars dont even resemble any of the car companies that are competeing.
The V8s are the top form of tin top motor racing in australia and in my opinion they should be the a hell of a lot better than anything on the road.
P.S. Congrats to the HSVToll and HRT It was awesome racing on the weekend and they deserve a pat on the back. Likewise for Courtney, i was astounded at his pase for someone only in there second year.

I think the hrt and toll cars are the best looking ones out there this year.
I also think the vodaphone cars are the worst

Its good to see that all the crap leading up to the V8 supercar race, ie. that Holden didn't have enough testing to have fast VE's on track, was wiped clean with two huge wins on the weekend. This years only going to get better for Holden with extra tuning and drivers becoming more acustomed to their vehicles.
