Hi Guys.

I am looking to buy my first HSV. I am currently a Skyline GTR owner and have had many turbo cars. Now it's time to try my hand at a V8.
My delema is do I get the GTS in a manual or do I get the Senetor in an auto.
The reason this is a delema is that I know myself and I can't keep any of my cars stock. So in the future I would be looking at making around 400 flywheel kw's.
Which gearbox will hold this without any mods? Will the GTS need a better clutch?
Has anyone questioned the use of the suede on the seats? I'm thinkin in summer my swety ass will flatten the suede and it will look crap in a few months??????
Also what are the best mods to do at first? Do the HSV's need better exhaust's? COI? I'm thinking a harrop stealth kit would be nice in the future ;)

I look forward to your comments.

Thanks Guys.

Go the manual mate, nothing beats it imho. Textralia have the reputation for making bullet proof clutches that can handle extreme power with excellent street manners, its only a matter of time until they release (if they havnt already) an upgraded model for the VE (if needed that is).

So I'd go the manual, maybe look at the CAI kit that Street_Tuna has been playing with, get it tuned, and when the clutch goes put a tex in and you will be set.

Depending on how seriously you want to modify this thing, maybe you would consider getting the R8 instead ... the money saved can go towards a TT kit... Then you would be looking at something close to 400RWkw not just at the fly... just an idea to make life alittle difficult for you, and as ryzz said, go the manual

Nah definitely want the MRC suspension so it will be the GTS or senetor. This will be my daily driver so I can't make it undrivable, or a cop magnet, so was thinking the Harrop supercharger kit looked real good and made "usable" power. I have worked on a CV8 that had a CAAPA stage one made great dyno power but not real quick on the street. All top end.
Not sure about how much power I want, at the end of the day the GTR is my toy so I'd rather spend most of the cash on that.
Has anyone moded their E series HSV yet??
Where can I see one of these coi's???

Thanks again guys. :)

If you decide on the HH112 or HH122 kit you will get the 400fwkw without too much effort, however a CAI will become redundant. The HSV exhaust is OK, but there are better solutions available.

There are a few E Series that are putting out approx 360fwkw already.Just use the search button and punch in " VE GTS ". I take it that you know you can get the GTS with the 6 speed auto as well......Cheers John

PS. Most of the modded E series just have a Tune,CAI and the exhaust done.

G'day Mate can't answer the other questions. I'm only doing the 280kw stuff. $2.5k and I will go with out sat nav.

(Q)Has anyone questioned the use of the suede on the seats? I'm thinkin in summer my swety ass will flatten the suede and it will look crap in a few months??????

(A)It's fake suede like what the use on furtiture. This stuff is hard wearing and easy to clean. I have a 4year at home (we have it on the lounge) you just us liquid soap and run over it with your finger nail. Wipe with a cloth and the stains come out. Should look fine for quite a while. I'd put a little towel done for your sweety arse. LOL

I'd go GTS - MRC is great Track/Perform. Senator is Perform/Lux. Same money choice is yours.

There is a post on MRC.

Happy days

For reliability like has been said you cant fault the manual with a decent clutch... The A6 is a relatively new transmission so I dont think the strength of the auto is really known yet. But even then the auto can always be rebuilt to be stronger for what would be a similar price for a new clutch kit and braided lines etc installed..

The choice of GTS or Senator is up to you. I would go the GTS for manual but Senator for auto like what it seems your already tossing up between..

Basically think of what you really want out of the car. You said it was a daily driver. Do you mind changing gears in heavy traffic? Do you like the feel of an Auto or manual more?

If you want a manual then get a manual. If you want an auto get an auto.

If you're planning big power then the M6 for sure, the A6 is an unknown quantity.

Keep in mind that you aren't allowed to like autos on this site ... :stick:

Depends what sort of driving you do most of the time, if you have lots of peak hour traffic, go the auto. If you can easily avoid the traffic and like doing the odd track day, go the manual.

:D

Thanks guys!
Your feedback has been great. I am now leaning more towards the manual. The car won't be doing any circuitwork maybe a little drag racing now and then.
I will have to do the search for the CAI and the tune. I definitely do not want it standard for more than a month. Maybe 12 months on the Harrop kit would be great. Will have to compare it to the turbo kits going around.

Can anyone tell me how the E Series sat nav is? Easy to use? good directions?
I had a Prado Grande which had an awesome sat nav and now I have a Turbo Territory with the factory option of daytona and it is totally crap compared to Toyota.

Go the R8, 12k or how ever much more for the GTS isn't worth it.... MRT suspension is just a gimmick to boost sales, it has no real world importance.

Both have same power output which is disapointing seeing the GTS has always been the most powerful

which ever one you buy put a good quality exhaust on it, the stock one's are too quiet. you want to hear all that power right!!!!!!

See http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=69367, especially the later pages. Looks like it's more like the Territory one than the Prado. :(
