hi all the vectra V6, is coming up for timing belt & tensioner replacment, been quoted $ 830 with labor, 357 for tensioner, 150 for belt, rest is labor, and about 3 to 4 hours work. I knew it was going to be more than the astra, anyone do a better deal or is that about right. would be better spent a tune for the R8 but what do you do.
thats about right, weve done 2 in the past couple of months. the reason its so expensive is because you have to buy a genuine timing belt kit. there is an aftermarket kit thats alot cheaper but none of the pulleys are right. (tried two different brands). not the easiest of jobs though, setting up the cam timing can be a bitch because all of the idler pulleys are adjustable, this can move cam timing.

i didnt think there was a listing on a timing kit as such for the vectras...??
i know the astra's have a listing for the kit, 92185845, $275rrp - pretty sure vectra stuff was sold in individual parts...?
id stick with genuine however, but i may be biased :p
they definetly do a kit, ive bought a few of em, GM-09201887 retail of $770!!!

Thats so not true about after market parts.
All bearings and belts are not made by Holden or Anyone like that.
Genuine only grt theses products made by a Bearing Company and 99% Timing belts on any make of cars are made by Gates.
If you buy genuine parts you are so silly.
go call CBC or look at www.gates.com.au i think and you can get aftermarket kits.
It doesnt matter if its Holden Ford Bmw who ever there bearings ans stuff are made for them from like NTN or NSK or KOYO and put into a Holden box.
We own a Bearing Shop and see this shit everyday
sorry it is just

What kms are you at black. The ZC Vectra timing belt replacement is actually @ 120k . the original handbook says 60k but was amended / revised by Holden .Holdens will back you on it. $830 sounds about the right money though from a dealer.

You need to get out into the workshops a bit Wayne. Plenty of workshops buy our genuine kits, for the very reason others have said above.
Yes, the genuine ones may be made by major companies, but different companies make up the parts that make the genuine kit, and companies like Gates make the genuine spec under contract. These companies can't just "copy" the genuine stuff...There's a reason the genuine stuff is a bit dearer...IT FITS!

lowriding it is 200 k's short of 60,000, will check her service manual tonight, but saying that there is 20 of us going for a ride to wangarratta this sat over night with some lads from colin watson, I have to see them about the ride, so I will ask while I'm there if it's 60 or 120 k's, thanks for all the comments guys!!!!!!!
lowriding I owe you a few beers pal, your spot on there, local holden dealer showed me the paper work that shows only the (V6) vectra's were revised to 120,000 k's, so I'm bloody glad I asked the question here or I would have forked out about 800 big ones for jack s&1t. but makes you think if I booked it in to get done would they have told me about it or not. thanks again:teach:
