Hi Guys,
Just bought my first holden ever last week the VE Commodore SS-V and I must say compared to cars I've owned in the past the billion dollar investment seems to be paying off, Ive been amazed by the handling of this car, Ive got two questions I was hoping some members might be able to answer.

I've havent been unable to find what the offical 0-100km time is for the SS-V and/or 1/4 mile times, so if anyone has any info it would be appreciated, (either reference or real experience) unlike the HSV site which gives the 0-100km times the holden site doesnt (BTW mines auto with sportshift) and the only reference I could find seemed a little quick at 5.2sec

Also has anyone had experience with mods and the effects it does or doesnt have on warranty? Silver water autos offered some peformance upgrades, eg, mod air intake, computer management chip and exaust modifications. Anyone done similar with car under warranty and had issues or certain engine components voided from warranty?? On holden vehicles?

Any help or advice would be appreciated

thanks all

Firstly welcome.

Secondly use the search feature it will find you a wealth of info.

Thirdly, try looking in some of the forum sponsors threads, people like

Marranos.
http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=74
And many others have lots of info.

Fourthly, yes Cold Air Intake (CAI) and such are giving stunning results for people in terms of bolt on horse power. A CAI and tune can take you from 215KW upto 240KW! (I think I even read of somebody getting over 270Kw's at the wheels).

Fifthly. Yeah the 0-100 time from Holden was something like 5.4ish. Some people around here have got close, but I can't remember anybody posting better than the Holden (Or HSV!!!) published ones (yet).

Holy bundacrap thats a lot of power increase from a CAI alone. I have one and has been dynoed before and after, whilst it was previuosly tuned and the CAI certainly created a good gain, but nothing like you indicate..

Maybe different specs/developments are the difference but geese thats high just by induction flow alone - JMO...

Yeah I tend to agree there Pete..Anyway most of the Wheels and Motor Mags have official times they have recorded. I think around 5.6 & 13.9 is the quoted times.

Think you misread Pete - he said "A CAI and tune can take you from 215KW upto 240KW!"

Regarding warranty - depends is about the best answer. Depends on the dealer as much as anything else i.e. how open they are to modified cars and how much they want to keep your business. Some dealers will even modify cars pre-delivery with extractors, exhausts, edits, lowered etc and others throw a pink fit at basically any mods.

Holden's official view (see http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/...s.jsp?link=faq) is in part as follows:

"Should you proceed with modifications, your New Vehicle Warranty will not be voided. However, should a problem occur which is attributed to the modifications made, any repairs will not be covered by Holden's New Vehicle Warranty."

I just got Sonny from Marranos to put a CAI on my SSV. Went from 225kw to 240kw with JUST a CAI. No tune. The cars have alot of potential!

Also somewhere in one of the other threads is somebody who has 270Kw with CAI and tune, it may also have been Cat Back, can't quite remember, but going on Piffs results if he throws in a tune he'll be close. As he says the L98 has phenominal potential. Very easy power gains available.

 please wake me when these claimed figures come anywere near to LS1 track times......

actually I'm deadly serious.... and the ONLY reason there is no VE SS in red parked at my humble abode....when you’ve squeezed 11.0's
full weight out of an LS1 showing 277rwkw….you'll understand my dilemma

Hence I wait till the sorting is done

These l98's are good things indeed...a M6 VE SS ran 12.8 @ WSID just recently with zorst and a tune, factory rubber, factory diff gears.... awesome result! :driving:

Edit...M12, i dont for a minute belive these are pushing out a genuine 270 at the wheels...but 12.8s not too bad for a car that weight (around 1800kgs?) with such limited mods...by the way, this car didnt come with a dyno sheet...but it did run 109mph.

I fully understand, but its people like you who show us all the way. I mean you seem to have your SV8 working very well. When you move to the VE with a stronger motor, but more weight, it will be good to see your results as you tinker and acheive what are benchmark results.

I stuck my friends G-meter on and i did a best time of 7.78 seconds to 100kph with the ESP on. I don't think it accurate as it says in Motor magazine the car will nail the 1/4 in 13.4's and 0-100 in 5.2's:)

Why don't you think it is accurate, your car has a 1/4 mile time of 15.78 seconds and was dynod at 158rwkw, from those figures seems pretty bloody accurate to me, why don't you stop posting annoying figures about your underperforming car until it is fixed.

i'm getting it looked at tommorow, i put the G-tech on when it was 2000k old. I was babying it, i'm sure it could go quicker.

Come on mark, you know better than that... Did you run 11.0 out of your SV8 in the first 400 runs or second 400 runs? :stick: We want you to do the sorting and tell us the secrets ;)

What did mick get on TRUE street rubber, 12.2? i remeber the good old days when that was cam only territory for an LS1 on slicks
