hey guys,

got my self an OTR CAI and it looks trump and i think it will be a better additon to my car but im having trouble fittting it. i cant seem to close my hood and i think it is because its not sitting down flush enough over the radiator.

is there any mod i have to make to the radiator shroud? ive seen a few that have the top plastic cut out and all you can see it the metal radiator.

plus if i do have to do that what about the wires for my thrmo fans.... do i have to relacate them?? and make some custom mount?

if they ere this hard to put on i would have saved my money....

any help would be great... thanks paul

Hi mate

Dead centre of the radiator there is a plastic clip that needs to be shaved off with a hacksaw blade for the OTR to sit properly.

There are some pics of this mod being done somewhere :search:

Also depends on what model you got.
I found the mouth of my otr sat on the a/c condensor (vx2) and had to be knocked down a bit.

unfortunenatly its not a straight forward fit on most of them. For mine (PT style) I had to cut the shroad to expose the radiator. Then tap the A/C consensor down a bit. And finally trim the bonnet lining to clear everything

i did mine a couple of weeks ago ,you will have to cut all the plastic of the top of the radiator and move the wires down ,and push the A/C condenser down take care doing this just tap it down with a hammer but be careful ,i also taped the top row of fines down on the radiator just to the first core ,also do the TB bypass mod as well and you will have to unwrap the IAT wires so that they will reach the OTR

taken my otr cai off ,found that for ever cleaning filter, damages top of radiator, power gain was only 5-6rwkw and the bottom to mid range felt alot less. At preasent time using pod style filter with shroud dropped 2 rwkw but the torqe gained 10nm. just my opion.

thanks for all the feed back guys, it really helped.

i did it today and it has come up great... to a little time but it was worth it. bit of a picky bugger so i wanted every thing to look as orginal as possible. not just a butchers job....

i was preatty lucky that i didnt have to squash my a/c condencer? if that is what it is, any way just had to trim off the top of the radiator, move and cable tie the wires, which i did to the fan shround down low where they were out of the way. and then cause i had a new TB i had to re route the bypass pipe and i modified the orginal one from holden to fit and with a could more cable ties looks like it was ment to be there.

any way i hope starting this thread will help some more people.

#cant post pics other wise i would#

Hey guys.

Just mining up an old thread.

While putting my OTR on today I was trimming the plastic along the top of the radiator and the stanley knife slipped though and hit a couple of fins along the top.

Didnt think much of it as didnt look serious just a little dent.

After fitting and taking up for a drive though Im leaking coolant from the gap.

Is my radiator fukced?

I will try get some pics ASAP.

Im hoping there is some kind of repair available :(

you can buy radiator repair its in a stick and you need it together and stick it on it works, I have used it on a few cars before but i think i would be best if you get a new one

:bawl: You aren't the first and won't be the last Michael. Get it to a radiator specialist (or your preferred repairer) and get it looked at - you may need a new radiator :(.

:bawl:Yep thats great advice, the one I'm thinking of is called heat seal stick & great for Alum coils etc. Thing is though would only recomend it as a temp repair until it can be properly repaired or replaced.
Not fun for one to cook their LS1. Guess I'm a poet & didn't know it?

That putty stuff?
I was thinking about it but would rather the security of a brand new one. Wouldnt trust my shotty repairs :jester:

Im much better at wrecking things than fixing them

I have another car I can drive so I might just get a new core.
I was worried I had cooked it when I noticed the coolant light on around the corner from home. Luckily the overflow bottle was still half full so Im pretty sure no damage was done.

Just tried calling some places because I though it was only 10 to 5. Now I realise I forgot to set daylight savings on my computer:1peek:

Will sort it out tomorrow morning now

Been quoted $500 for a whole new radiator and fitment with coolant etc. Apparently its cheaper for a whole new one than to do just the core??

It should be done by the end of the day.

Just going to drive it down there with the cap on loose and a lot of spare coolant. Hopefully should make it.

I thought about going a VZ radiator setup whilst I was at it but was not sure if;

A. The ORRSOM OTR would fit with the setup

B. If there was any difference between the the VX and VZ block

Lesson learnt. When I cut the top of this next one off I wont be using a stanley. Might just put a light groove mark in it and snap away at it.

You mean Microsoft did not update to the WA Daylight Savings Patch?? Or are you a MAC User??

Best of luck with the repair.. Don't worry, we've all done little things to our cars that turn out more money.. Call it a life lesson...
