Hey guys,
It was a while ago that i said i'd try get some clips of the car, as some of the members were interested in how they sounded with some extra boost and some exhaust mods. Here's a couple of quick clips to give an idea
I wasn't belting the car completely, but it gives an indication. I know i know, its got nothing on the sound of a worked V8.. and believe me, i love that rumble.. i'm really considering an 8 for my next car. Especially after seeing some of the results of the new VE with a tune and exhaust mods!

Sounds nice .... only worrying thing is seeing you adopting the riceboy trend of short changing to purposely set off the BOV :( . I really hope you were only doing it for the video and don't change gears like that normally?
i agree, the exhaust sounds good, but i dont like the BOV noise much at all. nice turbo noise though.

Not a fan of BOV's but your exhaust note is one of the nicer ones I've heard.
Luv the XR6T's.

unfortunately, with the BOV now venting to atmo, it won't matter when i change it'll vent and make a noise. Those gear changes were probably around 4500rpm.. the in car vid you should be able to see that in 1st i went to around 5000rpm, and 2nd was around 4500rpm.. which is probably what i usually change at.. it's not much point taking it past 4500-5000rpm.
Even when i change at 2000rpm i get a very light ssshh of air going out.. but once it builds boost its a lot more noticeable, more like a sshhtututu (3000rpm +). Still not as bad as the ricer WRXs that vent with tutututu at very low revs.
What really sets it off is pushing the pedal flat and backing off, which i don't do before gear changes unless giving it a bit. If i change normally it's not too bad, only if i put the foot flat, as thats when there is load on the engine and boost will build quickly.
Heres a vid of the car with the BOV plumb back, it makes a similar noise but no where near as loud.

nah, wouldn't have been my car mate.. i've only recently experimented with the atmo vented BOV. And the centre muffler has only been removed since June 2006.

it's a bit of a love/hate thing really. When i first heard it i was disgusted!! but since then, i've been lazy and i don't always hear it at full song anyways.. but yeah, i'm thinking i'll plumb it back to the way it was. It is different though, not many people expect to hear an XR6T sound like that.

Agreed ... the XR6-T badges will tell everyone it's a turbo ... IMO no need to broadcast it like a Silvia or Skyline owner would.
Maybe plumb a duck call whistle into the BOV ? :D

:lmao: at the duck BOV.
You guys gotta remember that it doesn't sound like that on every gear change, only when i'm using boost.. I don't always drive around with my foot flat.
I guess it's a love/hate thing with the atmo vented BOV. Rather then go and spend $200-300 on a new BOV i just wanted to see roughly what it would sound like.. so i just reverse vented the standard BOV. I got no doubts i'll be changing it back though, as it's not really the sound i was after, plus it's just bringing more attention to my car.
