My second car (the workhorse) is a 1998 Statesman V6. Both the fuel pump & level sender have been playing up & the car is in getting fixed at the moment. The dealer is unable to get the fuel level/sender as they are "no longer available". I realize the car is getting on a bit - but ???
Anyone got any suggestions.

Try another dealer or find a wreck and see if you can get the senders off the wrecked 98+ Commy/Stato?

Give 'Holmart' one of the sponsors on here a call, they carry a lot of old stock
they could mail you one if they have one.

Wanted to avoid wreckers if at all possible - don't want to have to remove tow bar, drop fuel tank etc etc if a dodgy, second hand one starts to play up.. will try Holmart tomorrow. Thanks guys.:driving:

The simple and best way is to (a) confirm it's the correct one by part number (b) it's definitely discontinued (c) are any showing on the national stock locator, which shows dealer stock in Australia or (d) if all the above options lead to nothing, find if it's the same as any other models/get the part number, and ring places like Holmart, Rare Spares, check eBay etc etc. Be wary of wreckers and ebayers that say they are all the same for all engines and body shapes of VS. THEY ARE NOT! Don't waste your time ringing other dealers as some might suggest, as the stock locator does all this for you, so saves you plenty of time.
DO NOT assume other part numbers will work, as there are several different ones that are specific to certain models. Some are still available, some are not anymore, for various reasons.

Thanks mate,
The dealer checked the National Stock Locator - & no go. I will get the part number tomorrow & make sure it matches up with whatever replacement I can source (mines Sept '98 build date from memory).

The fuel pump was getting replaced under warranty (they changed the original one 19,000k's ago) - thought I would get the sender unit done at the same time ie while they had the tank off.

ah oh well tell them to go to the local parts shops they have them, well at least thats what they told me about a year ago i didn't actually get one from them...i thought holden replace them as a complete unit anyway pump and sender together, maybe not going by your situation. they don't tend to fix a lot, they replace diffs rather than pull apart, replace gearboxs rather than pull apart etc

VT onward are generally sold as an assembly. Earlier were all separate.
I'd personally be very surprised that the local aftermarket suppliers would source the low volume senders. Maybe your regular 63 litre sedan one, but not the Statesman 80 litre one, and they will read wrong if you don't use the right one...
