"I've hit a kangaroo"
nearly 17yo son on his/my new GPX250 cleaned up a roo south of Bega, 1 roo dead and son sporting sprained ankle. He kept the bike upright so the only damage is from the roo impact, piece of fairing on the front and the alloy bracket on the right hand side that the footpeg and rear brake bolt to snapped in half. Could have been worse, but goes to show proper safety gear, boots helmet gloves jacket are all worthwhile, in this case the boots saved him from more serious ankle and leg injuries.
All in all very fortunate, both for him and my license.... A nice 2 hour run from Canberra to Bega from the time of the phone call, drive work vehicle to work and swap the falc for the SV6 to arrival in Bega.

Ouch, i know what it's like to hit a roo in a car. I certainly dont want to find out what it's like on a bike, he's a lucky kid.
Mate that is so lucky the boy not seriously hurt. That has been a situation I have been dreading when Ive been riding. Think some of his organs would have found new locations during that incident and you too when you got the call. Hope that the ankle is all the damage. Amazing what the adrenalin masks for a day or so.

Sounds like your kid had all the necessary safety gear as well as a bit of skill keeping the bike upright after kitting the kangaroo.
Sounds like he did well in a tight situation. Good work.

with all the stories of bikes vs roos, most cases end up with a lot more damage all round. Looks like he'll be off work for a few days on workers comp, although he went to work before getting sent home (colleague stopped and gave him a lift after the towie left), and he finally went to hospital last night to get checked out. typical teen, didn't listen earlier. he was going through a left hand bend at about 95 and I think what saved him from dropping it was not getting enough warning to try and avoid the roo. I don't like saying he was lucky, just very very fortunate

technically it IS my bike.... and yes it could have been worse, and I don't want to go through that again.

Good to hear he is OK.
Its actually a good thing in a way. At least he has had a taste of what can happen and experienced an emergency situation without any major damage to himself or the bike. I had some lucky encounters early in my riding career and they have served me well over the years.
Keep the rubber side down!

Glad to hear he's okay (I thought worse when I read the title)
A little off topic...about 5 years ago my cattle dog jumped out of my car whilst I was doing 100kph to chase a kangaroo he had seen. Kangaroo just keep bouncing along whilst my dog rolled about 20 times and slid about 30m before he came to a stop. $250 vet bill later I learned to wind the windows right up (or about 1" from top).
