View Full Version : VE Clubsport R8 seats: electric or manual?

I have HSV marketing brochure which claims that E-series R8 has 4-way driver and 2-way passenger electric seats. My R8 delivered to me in November last year has one electric switch on driver's seat (I assume it is 4-way electric since it can sort of tilt the seat), but the passenger seat is all manual (no switch at all just 2 knobs). Can R8 owners please confirm that this is standard on VE R8 or is it just my car and I need it to get fixed?

Yes but remember the Clubsport is based on a Berlina, (Thank god they didn't leave that stupid wood strip on the dash in the VE Clubby!) and the Senator is based on the Calais (Calais V for the E series).
Although that sux if the brochure has incorrect info re- the seats!

I found it annoying at first being used to electric memory seats.
But I love my R8 manual seats and all ;)

I just checked and have 4 way drivers and manual passengers.
I feel ripped of as the broucher clearly said 4way drivers and passengers.
I will take this up at my next service. I didn't get what was advertised (although I don't sit in the passengers seat, its the principle).

I think it's a bit of trick advertising...I think the brochure says "4 way/2 way electric/manual drivers/passengers seats"
which I think means 4 way electric drivers and 2 way manual passengers (ie all the before slash words match up and after slash words).
It pissed me off to cause I've bought when and when I went to look at them I thought it was a bit cheap in a car costing that much!

If it had all the gadgets people would complain that its a heavy car, and should be stripped out.

Oh, don't get me started! <g>
I've just been writing about my 1961 AJS 650cc CSR bike with 12:1 and alcohol which in the 60s made a 13.1 quarter on hard rubber...
My VX has similar feel, in a way.. two bursts to 100-or-so.
Send me an LS7-R please. <g>

I'm probably talking a much lower budget than VE top end but I'm pleased there's no fake wood in the 2001 VX International.
I've got a feeling that hi-end older BMWs and similar are a bit tragic when it comes to interiors.
I don't like the idea that even VEs are built only for a few years before they lose it.

I have 8 way directional seats in the SS (50), Speaking of R8's you would expect a few more additons to another Clubsport..I was looking at a Silver VY R8 Today for 36 OOO...ver tempted.

Until HSV put 8 way electric seats into the R8 there is no way I'm buying a VE R8.
It's a poor comparison to other makes. I know of 2 other VY & VZ owners over here who feel the same.

I personally couldn't care less about the passenger seat being manually or electrically adjustable. The drivers seat with an automatic memory yes I care about that.
Main thing is that they are comfy really and basically the less buttons and less electric motors the less the mrs will bugger around with them. ;)

I completely understand its a strain to turn a few knobs to manually adjust a seat now days. ;)
Id be more concerned if the electrics in the seats go on holidays. :)

Your loss really ... :yup:
As Carl said, the old multi adjustable electric memory seats were far from perfect. The rest of the E Series more than makes up for a missing gadget on the seat.

:lmao: what a pathetic reason. Is it that hard to turn a knob and lift a handle??

Thinking of excuses I remember someone who refused to buy any car that has less than 5 lugs nuts on the wheels. I thought it was piss my pants funny.

I thought the 4 way's in my SSV were good (not having any previously to this). After the initial hour long play, I have never again touched them!
I'm sure it's no big deal, I love the auto head lights too, but would not care if I got a Car without them. Although when I jump in my cruiser I listen to some old nanna station, because there is just no way that I'm taking my hands of the wheel to change it:cussing: .
Don't let anyone else drive it, easy. Hey just noticed I've got a back seat in mine also:werd:

You've missed my point or I guess I didn't make it well enough, what I am beefing about is I have 8 way seats now, I'm not going to go back to 4 way/manual. I'ts got nothing to do with laziness, just HSV have taken something away that I use almost every time I use the car, and by the way no problems either. It's maybe because of my age, but comfort is a big thing, other makers can handle it, why does HSV/Holden put these silly spec levels in place. Most Korean cars come out standard with the so called luxery items.
The E series R8 seats are only std Clubsport spec, pure and simple and there is no way I'm going to pay NZ$92K for a GTS to get those same spec seats.
Someone told me recently that you should never buy the first of a new model, owing to immature features deliberately positioned so that subsequent models have room to move.
I looked at a parked Statesman the other day, and I thought there was some damage done to the console, so I looked closer and it's the ridiculous handbrake, can't wait to hear what Clarkson says about that!

Are you hurting because the E Series dropped the price of your R8 so much? :stick:

You need to stop worrying about what they don't have and look at what they do have. People keep saying "you get this / that in other cars" ... but you don't get that engine, that chassis, those brakes, that look, 8 airbags, that room etc. etc. etc.
As for not getting the 1st model, the next release will always be better, no point in waiting for the next run, it's just delaying the inevitable. You really need to spend some time in an E Series, I have owned VX, VY & VZ HSVs, the E Series leaves them for dead.

Well said Nick also what Jeremy clarkson says shouldn't be taken with a grain of salt really (as with many journo's as well). I certainly wouldn't complain if I had an brand new E series R8 or GTS in my driveway. Seats are like mirrors set and forget and occationally need the odd adjustment(unless the mrs has to drive it and she is shorter). And the hand brake well you don't drive with it on and its out of the way. I am happy that they didnt put in a foot operated park brake. I havent driven the HSV's but I have driven a new SS and after driving it all the negative crap just goes away. I guess some people just nit pick instead of actually looking for the positives.

No. People pay good money for a five-year-old car and would justifiably want better.
My 2001 VX Calais International is like the inside of a 40-gallon drum at 100km/hr.
I've done $1K on tyres/hubs and there's no clear fault and it's noisy. Roar from factory tyres, alignment sweet, steering good, ride nice.
Stock factory maintained till last year. I bought the car without extended testing, and it is sweet in everything else. Changed tyres to GT 328s from Bridgestone G3s.
How many people can test-drive a car on 100km/hr rural roads?
My fault.
It's still sh*t noisewise...
yeah I can hear it now, pay here. pay there, pay... sorry if it was a tractor I'd say it's too noisy.
Goes well though

I wish they could just weld the seat to suit the owner..
If any other pr1ck wants to drive it, they would have to make do..
Then I wouldn't have to readjust the seat every time I get in:deal:
