Hi Everyone,
In the centre of the SS-V there is a display at the top of the dash which has a battery and oil display.
Can somebody please tell me what they are for? I love me SS-V but really don't understand what they are for and what they mean?
Sorry to ask such a easy question for most of you. All I know is that you can't change them to show anything else which I would rather be able to do.
Thanks

One shows you the battery voltage which should usually hover just above 12v and the other shows your engine oil pressure. this changes depending on how you drive the car.
The voltage meter is quite useful cos it could give you a heads up when your battery is starting to sh*t it self but the oil pressure i think is a waste of time in a standard road car.

Volts shows the volts in the electrical system. While driving it should be up around 14 volts. With the engine stopped it should read around 12 volts.
Volt gauges are handy because you can quickly tell if your electrical system is playing up. This comes in handy when trying to diagnose problems. Low volts causes fuel pumps to pump less fuel which can cause problems.
Other plus is if you're sitting without the engine running, but with the stereo on you can see if the volts in the battery are getting too low and save yourself from a flat battery.
Oil pressure is a bit redundant in a brand new car, but I still like to have it. It can help you avoid expensive engine damage. In every day driving just take notice of what the gauge does. Where it sits when stopped (motor running), on the highway and having a bit of a squirt in the counrty side. Should the oil pressure change by more than 20% from what it normally is then it would pay to check your oil etc.
You may think why have a gauge when I have an oil light. Well the oil pressure light only comes on at around 4PSI. By the time you realise it is on and switch the motor off chances are irrepairable damage is done so if you spot the oil pressure dropping by the gauge you can potentially save your motor.
Also, very car burns a little oil, if your oil level drops too far it will cause your oil pressure to drop also. Without oil your motor will fail.

What else would you rather they show?
I have the Sat Nav option on my screen. So I would rather see:
Time
Stereo Display
Aircon Display
Even L/100 kms would be better

I think they could have used the space for something better eg - time/temp/audio info as has been suggested.
Have blanked mine out and instead have a V8 badge displayed (the one used on the front guard) - just personal preference.

i rekon that display is bloody crap.. reminds me of tetris.. Like honestly, the guy who put that in couldnt of really thought it looked good or they should be sacked... they could of atleast got the dpi better to look more like a display and not like a lego set...
As soon as there is an option, ill be changing mine out.. Ideally a better quality display would be nice with a better resolution. I am happy to see the volts, and oil pressure but not be reminded of tetris everytime i see it.
